Divinity: Original Sin was one of the most exciting RPGs of the year when it released. This year, Larian will unleash its sequel, Divinity: Original Sin 2. It promises to improve the original in nearly every way and other RPG developers need to take notice. Here’s what RPGs need to learn from Divinity: Original Sin 2.

Currently playing Divinity original sin and loving it. I'm not playing it with anyone just doing it alone but the myriad of ways to approach each fight makes the game worth playing and enjoyable. I suppose playing it with someone would make it sweeter but so far all my old friends from my Everquest days (the ones I have stayed in contact with the longest) have all given up these games.

I'm pretty much the same way. What good are all the bad ass armors and exotic looking skills and abilities if I'm the only person who gets to witness it? If a game doesn't have co-op/multiplayer, its lost me.

I recently resubbed to SWTOR with a buddy, feeling all nostalgic from The Force Awakens, and wanting to experience some Dynamic Duo, Jedi, Bad-Assery... Neither of us can believe what a struggle it is to actually co-op through that game. Not only is it designed in a way that makes me feel like the devs expect everyone to solo, their's portions that don't even offer you the option for multiplay. The further you progress, the more you're pigeonholed, up until 60+ where it turns into a completely Single Player experience, with combat so easy and not engaging, it might as well be a Telltale game. It was always just barely an MMO, if that. Now it's like a Shared-Single Player experience.

Can't disagree with that! As well as its told, I do wish their was a bit more variation/deviation to the story though. And that it wasn't basically impossible to keep from severely out leveling the content. As good as Telltale stories are, I need a little bit more than story to consider something a game, much less an engaging one.

The intro is a bit over the top. If it inded happened that way, okay, but it feels over the top. It's not like people not playing single player games or RPGs at all would be unknown. Why is someone not liking single player RPGs that amazing then?

Besides that i agree with the general sentiment. While i didn't play Divinity Original Sin yet, so i don'T know if they really created the holy grail of coop-rpg-experience, i'd love to have some more coop (role playing) games available.

I'm fortunate enough to have some friends who are also interested in playing together, and who (usually) have more free time than i have, so when we *do* have a game available, it's rarely an issue to find at least some time to play together. One issue is though if you try to coordinate too many people. Two people? No problem. Three? Works out usually. Four? Works if everyone is looking forward to continue playing each day. But with each person, it becomes more difficult, especially if some are less enthusiastic.

Like, we had like 8 people playing Minecraft on our own little server, but almost never there were more than 4 at once online.

I'll wait to the day's end when the moon is high
And then I'll rise with the tide with a lust for life, I'll
Amass an army, and we'll harness a horde
And then we'll limp across the land until we stand at the shore

While I think it would be nice to play an RPG with friends, I don't really see having people around being conducive to an immersive experience.

Shootin' the shite with friends while mowing down baddies seems like a good time but when I'm playing alone I can really lose myself in the world and what I'm doing.

Divinity Original Sin was a satisfying experience! I am so excited for the 2nd installment

I prefer playing RPGs alone also. I'll make some tea, sit down, and wander around, maybe do a quest.  Play at my own pace. I could never play my way with someone else or a group of friends.  When I look up and a couple of hours have passed I know I've lost myself in another fantasy world, or the aliens have finished with all their tests and decided to release me.

Would you guys recommend getting the enhanced edition on PC or on console?.

I have been interested in it and its easier and more comfortable with my disease to play it on the couch while laying down but i also want to get the full experience and PC usually offers that. So i am looking for some outside opinions.

PC if you have a good enough PC for it.

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

Humble has it on sale right now.. but reportedly it's a bit expensive (27). I just dunno personally. I think I was talked out of it.

I haven't played Original Sin with anyone else, but thanks to giving your companion a personallity you can have different conversations during talks. I set mine on random so it's not always goody good or rebel like. Hell even reloading if not happy with the outcome makes them choose something else. Makes it more like you are playing with another player :)

I think Dragon Age can learn allot from Divinity, namely "Don't screw your fans over just to please to mainstream gamers and console gamers". Remember how Dragon Age was a PC game first that just so happened to have a console version too (even though the game was developed long before the xbox even excisted). But nope, Dragon age 2 had to become a mainstream friendly game, going from RPG to a action game with RPG mechanics so people wouldn't be confused about all the skills and that you could actually build your character the way you wanted (want a 2h sword wielding mage with plate armor, you could do that in Dragon Age origin, it came with penalties but you could!). Dragon Age Inquisition was made for Console first, the fact that the game plays better with controllers then mouse and keyboard say's enough. They tried to go a bit more RPG again then DA2, but it was still shallow compared to what you could do in DA:O.

Divinity alway's did what they wanted to do. Not giving in to mainstream and what hardware has the biggest player base. And i think you can make a deep RPG even for consoles as you have enough console gamers who want a deeper game too and not just mainstream stuff. Mainstream gamers are the biggest group out there and most often play on consoles but that doesn't mean all console gamers are mainstream gamers, just like not all gamers in general are mainstream gamers. So developers/publishers should look at Divinity and learn from that. Cause even the Beloved Elder Scrolls is going more and more mainstream just like Fallout, it steps further and further away form being a RPG and more into a action game with RPG mechanics.

Would love to se emore RPG's like Neverwinter Nights again. Providing a great singleplayer experience as well as having a big multiplayer part where you can do the whole campaign in coop or just make your own worlds and have hundreds of players play at the same time on your server. NWN 1 still has a relative big player base online with all kind of servers, COOP, PVP, RP, with many different worlds created by players. We need that back, stop making a seperate MMORPG and just provide players access again to multiplayer without additional fee's and able to rent their own server to host it on.

Few games offer the co-op experience D:os does. My wife and I enjoy every minute of it. Dying just makes us want to play more (try a different approach) feels so rewarding when it all works out. Now with the way backgrounds will tie in and motivations tied to them, it will feel even more immersive IMO. Can't wait to back stab the wife during a play session ;).

I couldn't get into D:OS. The difficulty curve in that game is ridiculous, and you need more than your party of 2 to even beat the first fights right outside of town. I suppose I should just give up and try going through on easy.

Challenging I can enjoy; Pillars of Eternity is a nice challenge. D:OS just feels unfair to me. Oh, and AFAIK GOG still doesn't support MP through Galaxy despite promising it would be added shortly after release. If I do get this installment, I'll most likely stick with Steam.

I'm still glad I bought the game. Larian is an incredible studio, and other than the difficulty D:OS is a lovingly crafted game. They're very passionate about their fans and their games, and that deserves to be rewarded in the era of soulless cookie cutter trash like CoD or Assassin's Creed's later installments. Edit: I'd also like to say that D:OS 2 so far looks like what everyone expected from Sword Coast Legends. God that game was disappointing.

AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!

You do not have to reduce it to easy. A party of 4 gives way more possibilities and interesting mechanics. For instance split your group and take boxes and other items like oil barrel and create a bottleneck. Then send in one character to pull them through the bottleneck you created and best of all set the boxes on fire by hitting the oil barrel. Any hard encounter is so great to do with 4 characters because you have so many choices.

I have an earth/fire mage, a crossbow ranger with huge amount of status arrows which I craft using teeth and antler horns among other things. I make molotov cocktails for Madora and she goes to town with them and her two hand weapon which I crafted. I have my air/water mage in Jahan. Between all the skills they have each turn is like "what shall I use now " ? Honestly limiting yourself to two characters makes the game in my opinion less spicy and varied as you're missing out on so many skills.

PC, which I'm not being a purist or anything I'd just imagine it has the bigger install base, as well as the control scheme is far more suited to PC.

It is not unfair at all.   You have all means in game to beat the content.  Difficulty level is just higher than what you're used to in last few years propably.

D:OS though is not unfair at all.  In a way it is same like Dark Souls is to other action RPGs.  Great combat system with high difficulty, but definately not made in unfair way.

What publishers need to learn from Divinity: Original Sin is that everyone who bought the game prior to the launch of Enhanced Edition got the Enhanced version added to their Steam library automatically for free. That's been a really generous move on their part I think. Now I have both versions on Steam for the price of one. D:OS's always been an outstanding game and I'm thankful for the Enhanced Edition I discovered recently hiding in my Steam library.

Get it on steam, and check out the steam link. I haven't used it myself, but I think I'm going to get it. Looks awesome! You could play on pc, or your couch depending how you feel. You can also use a Keyboard and Mouse.
