Ok so I have been hankering for a little strategy and or sim...

Civ 5
patrician 4
Dominions 4
X-com(s)
Banished
Crusader kings 2
Sim City 4
Dig or Die
Towns
Empire Earth(original pre patch)
Sins of a solar empire
Endless Legend

And while they dont really fit I have been up on a few rogue like challenges like ATOM or Tales of Maj'Eyal

I like difficulty based replability

The old Koei games were perhaps my first faves in line with challenging type games with replayability.
Then other simple games on consoles like Langrisser/Langrisser 2,then of course Age of Empires series.
There are many more that i have played over the years,i just have played so many games i can't remember the half of them.

5Luck, do you like the non-combat time-management or worker-placement type of strategy games?  I have lots of recommendations for those:

Ranch Rush is my favorite of the many farm-themed games where you run around growing and harvesting crops.

Artist Colony is my favorite worker-placement game, and there's an archeology-themed game by the same company using the same engine, though I've forgotten the name.

The Timebuilders series is a good example of the type of city-building game where you don't get to pick where to place your buildings, but instead each map is a puzzle where you have to do things efficiently enough to get the goals done before the timer.

The Cake Mania series is another game where you are running back and forth trying to achieve goals quickly and efficiently.
I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story.  So PM me if you are starting one.

I used to play a few games like those over on kongregate but they've since lost their charm for me. IDK most seem to be directing me back to eve but I doubt thats gona happen. Id love to find a new MOO like game. I played MOO3 and while most seem to think that was the worst of the series I found it to be the best 4X game ever...

How about Endless Space? It takes a while to understand how everything works and sometimes the game can be pretty unforgiving (like Civ 5!). It is a turn based game where you can create different space ships, such as a colonization ship or a warship, and slowly fight your way to victory. There are several different races you can play as, each with it's own unique abilities, or you could make your own. It is more of a strategy game then a sim game, but you should check it out! :)
