I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on a class you could play pretty much leveling only in RvR)or as much time spent in RvR as possible, was thinking of running one character with that focus.
The primary classes for large scale pvp matches are the G/W/E/N/ ( Guardians, warriors, elementalists, Necros) classes though they also run Mesmer as a support class for zerg fighting. You can play a number of classes in WvW and switch out according to what is needed for team play or what you are better at actually playing. IF you are working on builds for different things it may be helpful to use metabatlle as a start, then you can make adjustments as you determine what you like to play/ how you play as you go after that :
I personally prefer my Necro ( Reaper) it is versatile to where you can switch out armors/ weapons to either play backline or frontline as needed.
(My guild has our own builds and we switch templates depending on what our gameplan is for that raid, but those are confidential) XD
Depending on what server you are on will determine much of what you can get away with playing. Lower tier servers you can mess around with whatever you want, high tier servers, you may get yelled at for showing up to the party on a ranger, thief or engi unless they specifically designate that they need one for specific purposes. Thieves are good for running interference aggro/ tapping keeps/ killing yaks. Rangers and engis are good for pin sniping ( killing the enemy commanders when targeted and asked to do so) But these classes are not usually needed for zerg fighting and pin sniping is usually not needed to win a fight and is considered " hitting below the belt" so can be " frowned upon".
Warriors, reapers and guards are frontline builds elementalists are primarily used as healers ( staff), stuns and taking down difficult to hit siege with dragon tooth ( scepter). Mesmers are primarily considered a support class and are expected to be able to have perfect timing on their portal bombs and veils. Necros are the primary DPS and can do sick damage with their wells .Power is much more effective than Condi at higher level game play since everyone is set with condi clears in well organized groups( Minion Necos are not good for WvW).
Depending on the level of game play you are at, different guilds/ commanders have different play styles and will expect their ops to run the set builds/ classes for the raid to be able to have proper party and zerg composition. If a zerg is getting one pushed. it is usually due to poor builds and party comps, so yes what one person decides to play can affect the whole group.
Hope that helps. If you have any questions about specific builds/ classes feel free to ask.
Keep in mind that you'll be pretty useless in WvW until you've reached (near) maximum level. Fully geared lvl 80s will two-shot you, despite of you being "upscaled" to lvl 80.
That said, run with the zerg and it won't really be a problem. You'll be level 80 in 50-60 hours of gameplay.

Of course for leveling usually uplevels go EoTM if they want to K train. Unless you want to craft or happen to have a stack of tombs sitting there. Not all servers do much K training so it could take much longer depending on the server you are on.
