The Thieves Guild will be Elder Scrolls Online's first DLC of 2016, and it's shaping up to be pretty massive in terms of content included. We caught up with ESO's Creative Director, Rich Lambert to ask a few questions about the recent info dump on the content pack.

    24-player trial? That's a typo right? Right?

Some good stuff to hear, sad the world based PVP system rook a low prority and was canceled, but at least there is focus on improving the game and cyrodiil performance

More criminal activities is always good (in ESO)

It probably became too difficult to extend Thieves Guild activities into the main game, while simultaneously disabling them for the general pop that didn't own the DLC.

It pretty much sounds like the Thieves Guild and everything associated with it will only be relevant inside the specific Thieves Guild map. Pay and get it all, pay nothing and get nothing.

The Dark Brotherhood DLC will most likely be similarly self-contained.

Great interview Bill! Thanks for asking about the 64-bit client and what it brings, this is my #1 anticipated feature from the DLC.

Well. Once again it sounds like Zenimax promised big and is delivering small. One zone where criminal acts matter eh? Of course the first thing to get cut was the pvp aspects. I remember when they touted ESO as "The" definitive Pvp experience of MMO's. Now they barely even support it. :/

So I'm just wondering about how the new cross alliance grouping tool will work

First off everything sounds great ......until you get to the being able to buy monster helms... That is a huge slap in the face to us who worked hard to get the helms with the traits we needed for our characters. Now anyone can get them without even putting in the work for it makes me sad. I hope at least they are going to be really expensive to buy to try and eliminate just anyone having them. I never have anything to complain about with ESO I love the franchise and I love this game I understand bugs and issues. I've been a player since the beta on the Mac now on the box ....but this is a huge let down! Not to mention when are we going to get some new dungeons?!

I'm less about "how it will work" and more about "WILL it f#$%ing work?!".

    You stay sassy!

PvP players are always a minority, so nothing new here.

And they never promised bigger things than mentioned now, it is all in your heads.
  • ArglebargleArglebargle Member EpicPosts: 3,483
Yep they really misread their market.  The top dogs wanted to remake daoc, but the fans of the series just wanted co op Skyrim.  This was obvious early on, but they had already baked in too much of the game by that point.   Oh well...

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

    man.

Ncsoft/carbine could learn alot from these guys....they are so onpoint with content info about their game.

    :(

merchant that sells monster helms etc is GREAT it means we who want to play PVP arent forced to PVE.
and its not that true we can get the gear without effort ... still neeed to APs to buy the gear

They did? I seem to remember a lot of arguments on forums where people were debating whether or not it was a pvp game.

I'm with the underwhelming crowd. The biggest thing here for me is the client upgrade to 64 bit.

Seems solid enough but all this thief stuff will be worthless for players that RP lawful (and I have met a lot of people like that in this game). This really really really needed to include the enforcers vs thieves pvp that was originally promised, as it would have given players on both sides something to do (as well as having been amazing).

With this updated info, I am worried that these new thief activities will be limited to one map... which is just laughable. The extra info has me feeling less hopeful about the content than I was before. This is just going to be "the stealing map" and flooded with players stealthing everywhere and looking completely absurd.

ZOS needs to bring back the promised PvP update to the justice system. The system without it is just not interesting enough.

This is the best MMORPG going or being developed at the moment that isn't a farmer getting murdered simulator.

The system would have never worked. PvPers wouldn't put themselves in a disadvantaged position to be attacked just to provide a target for other PvPers. The PvErs that steal would just stop stealing.

In less than a month Justice PvP would have ended the old Justice system stealing and the new Justice PvP. Both systems would have ended up being unused and the development time put into them would have been wasted.

I'm on the underwhelmed side as well. No new active skills, cancellation of the pvp portion of the justice system that less than a month ago we were told it was a "go" on ESOLive, the dialing back of siege weapon changes, no word of updating of v14 gear, no word on making current sets BoE, I could probably go on.

From my perspective things are moving in an unexpected direction since the departure of Paul Sage (Creative Director) and  Nick Konkel (lead systems designer).

I think it would have worked brilliantly.  The thieves would need to have an escape plan and neither the thieves nor the enforcers able to mount.  The megaserver would keep any particular zone from getting too overloaded on enforcers or thieves, as well as keeping player levels balanced.  Players that didn't want to pvp would simply be sure to do it when an enforcer wasn't nearby.  Enforcers would have to wear the tabard for a minute before being able to engage in pvp, preventing players from just dog-piling on the thieves.

Right now stealing is not at all interesting.  It NEEDS the PvP component to become a decent part of gameplay.

I know we are just making predictions here, but there is one thing I think you are dead wrong about - you say Justice sytem PvP would quickly end because players would never steal.  Right now if a player is spotted by a guard it is basically GG.  Having another player in place of the guard actually IMPROVES the chances they get away, not to mention being immeasurably more entertaining.  The change would only increase justice system participation, there are really no downsides to it for either side.

You don't have to worry, though, ZOS apparently decided not to do it.  It is a shame, as it would have hands down been the best content in the game.

I guess it's ok. It's a new guild with a new questline and i guess alot of sidequests. It sounds smaller than the two previous DLC though, just from the fact that there's no new world, but then maybe there's alot more quests to compensate.

I prefer to be lawful though, so i doubt i'll get this, but maybe if it's cheap or if the reviews are great. If i were to guess a price i would say 1500 crowns. The cheapest DLC so far, but based on what we know now i think it holds less value than the two previous DLC.
