1) For PvP you should always fly ships you can afford t loose.
2) Any ship is good for a specific role, as long as you specialize your ship to fill it. Frigs, Intercetors, Assault Frigs. are good for tackling targets. Crusers, Heavy Assault are good for firepower/tackling support. They also make awesome EW if you are Caldari. Battlecrusers, Battleships are usually Snipers/DDs.
Any ship will perform good in PvP as long as you will define that ship with a specific role and equip it and use it accordingly.
I have just Started EVE and I can say it looks neat indeed. I also Started X3 too.Already after 3 days X# has been dropped... which is a pity cause it seems to have more shooting fun.Anyway as a BRUTOR MINNIMAR, I get the rookie ship to start.I IMagine that If i want to be the ASSULT now questions later type of player should I aim to upgrade skills to fly the WOLF?Descriptions of Ships in this game seem to the same, just use different words.
So after 3 days of training for just one skill... im trying to upgrade my clone.. to no availl... anyway im sure i will figure it out.. this tutorial is long and full.
As im a tad a fly boy when it comes to simulators and flying games... im wondering if there is any dogfighting in this game.. cause it seems that its all about "super trumps" Super trups was a card game.. for example all cards had the various desriptions of its assets. The idea was to have better assets in a said area. And, the one with the better assets won
So better skills and better ships with better wepons will win , or so it seems... So the actual pilot seems redundant....
first things first, when you create a character make sure that mem/int are not less than 6, if you're a fighter type, charisma won't matter.
second of all, all ships are useful in a certain way, but for doing missions and stuff, you might want to use a destroyer for lvl 2 and 1 and a battlecruiser for lvl 3.
of course bigger ships are for lvl 4, but let me tell you what, the manticore, the caldari stealth bomber can do lvl 4 missions easily.

1) I am not sure what you mean by dogfighting, since you cant control ship directly in EVE. If you mean, is there a battles with a lot of smaller ships then yes.
2) No, EVE is not a "trump" game. Although it may seem that way in the beginning. Just about everything in EVE has it strengths and weaknesses. For example, if your opponent uses a battleship with huge turrets and you are flying a frigate class ship chances are they will barely hit you at long ranges, and nearly will not hit you at all at short ranges. There are a lot of ifs and buts to that situation, however if you will exploit weaknesses of your opponent you can come out on top in most of the situations. Each ship in EVE has a role in mind; and it was designed to fill that specific role, proper application of each ship in a certain situation will insure your success.
sorry about the typo on the final letter of my last post .. that should be an S not a D.
mmmmm ok.. but damn it would be amazing if you could Put the wookie in the pilot seat (so to speak) .. and shoot yer way in... or protect yourself...
I assume lag kills that prospect.
but what about 1st person shooter such as battlefield. I guess all the comodity and trade and luggage taking up the load all the time...
Oh advice please... I have just been offered lev 2 missions... I have paid for a beta clone... I have a 'bunch-o-prizes' from various deadspace pirates and a implant worth 1mill. that I cant use (yet) I have 10 points on skill... I have .6 mill in the bank
WHAT NOW?
do I go on a pirate hunt and increses my booty try asteroid areas of .8 systems ,OR do i mission my way? What the best short term Objective... as IM trial now but willing to pull a long haul if i get nabbed.
Try building up your repuatation with a Minmatar NPC corp (Republic Security Services, or Rpublic Navy are both good choices) - get the "connections" skill trained up as it gives bonuses to your standing (and allows use of more important agents.
Another thing is to try killing rats in low security - but be very careful if you go below 0.5 security as there are player pirates here - if you are in a fast frigate you should normally be ok though. But at all time be prepared to run/fight from other players.
It might be a good idea to look to joining a player corp - but first find out what you want to do. I actually like the challenge of doing some of the higher level missions in a frig lvl2 kill missions are possible in a rifter, if you are REALLY careful. lvl3 needs something more.

Well the sky is the limit in case of EVE.
Like poster above me said, you can do missions for NPC corps, in the long run it can be very profitable. However grinding missions can be very tiring and boring.
Then you can always go to lower sec space, not nesseserally lower then .5 but .6 or .5 and find some pirates in the belts; it can also be quite profitable.
Try to join a player corp. that has some simular type of players as you (fairly new), that way you can learn the game with some people, make some friends and at the same time you will have someone to ask questions when you are puzzled.
One thing you should not do: Don't just wait on your skills. While you want make a small short term objectives, don't rely on the fact that you have to wait for some skill to train before you can do something.
Set an objective for yourself, for example, take a look at crusers avalable and set an objective to get yourself a "Stabber" per say. Then see what you need to do to achive that objetive.
If you will join player run corp. you will always have corporation objectives, which is ususally to grow, to portect people while they are doing mining operation in lower sec space and do some pirate complexes together.
EVE is very open ended, there is no one here to hold your hand and tell you what to do (in case of new players it may not be the greatest thing) just decide what you want to do and go for it.
One more thing, if you do go to lower sec space be prepared that a player pirate will kill you and you will loose what you are currently flying. Reason I say this is, dont go to lower sec space with more then you can afford to loose.
Last night.. I did a level 2 mission... I had to go to the last room in a deadspace complex... in there where 2 groups of 5 .. and just one of them blew me from here to there... Docked and ran as fast as I could to Home plate... figured how to get a new ship.
went to dead space to scavange parts for the WOLF i want to buy while my skill get in rythum with what ship I wanna drive Did I say Wolf... or WOLF like a Jaguar. So i was looking for guns to place in the slots .. I found a nice prize in a chest... their chest where all over the place. I took one. Then I got GANKED... and chased back to home. Ive saved his names... and That pilot will see me agian... using me as prey like that... pffffft pick on n00bians week is it?
Sounds like you are having fun, just remember, if you loot other ppls chests it marks you as an agressor towards them. I am not sure if police will attack you for it in secure space, but it definately something to watch out for.
If it is a lower sec place, no one said you can't loot and run though, just warp to a moon and sit there until things will calm down .
Careful of those cans - they are "owned" by the player who destroyed the ship..
If you take from someone else's can, they can blow you up without repercussions - anywhere.
But yeah, looks like your having fun.
Set ourself a goal - check. Getting straight into the action instead of "waiting till later" - check Realising that even a newie can kill old players - check
Sounds like your the type of player who will really engoy the game, and make the experience better for everyone in game already
first thing I did was buy a Rifter.. fill it with 3 turrets and EMC ammo.. I have 150 and 200 mm guns... but the 200s ammo is so small... so Im mixing them up a bit... I have 2 short range turrets and a cannon to get the 8km optimal range to get their attention... and just pick them off with different guns at different ranges... In second slots I have 3 civillian sheild rechargers... it seems to work ok.. I had to rescue the ships crew from inside a deadspace area... guarded by 9 rats all worth between 3750 and 4500 cash... then inside there where another bunch of 9... well I made it ...
I upgraded my clone... I have premium insurance and Im hunting more rats all the time... I have booty all over the place though.
I have only ever taken one item out of a cargo chest that was not mine... besides that ganking bozo was waiting for a n00b like me to take it.. the area that the cargo chest was left... only rooki class ships can go through the gate... His cargo sitting there was a lure... I KNOW IT.
I have not sat and waited for my skills to grow... I have no idea what gave you guys that impression, but ... Im managing to get all my bonuses for all my missions .. except one... and I got booted during server shutdown, then waited ... got back on and did not make the drop by minutes..
Im enjoying it... Im glad to be out of my rokkie ship... now I just want MORE... I want better wepons as I have top ammo already.. lots of it.. in a few different docks... ive also taken to wolfing ... that is go in take out 1 or 2 of the rats (out of a lrge group) then repair if i need to... reload and go back and just kill them all...
There are a few wepons and upgrades that I just dont seem to have the skill areas at all... do these become visible later? for example Id really like to use my memory implant... but it requires a skill that is not a choice... will it be ..? later?

Too see all items that can be sold on the market, you need to uncheck a little check box in the bottom of the market screen that says "show only avalable items". Also when browsing market make sure that you set your range for the entire region, and not just a paticular system.
Remeber, that small weapons go to frigs, mediums to cruser class ships and so on. So if you want bigger guns you will have to move on to cruser.
Also check out this link it will give you a a good idea on how turrets, tracking, signature size, speed, range and direction effect your damage: http://www.eve-online.com/guide/en/g26.asp

In that area it was more likely it was another newb that just didn't loot all their containers. Happens a lot in the tutorial deadspace because almost everyone goes to the closest 1 of the 5 or 6 there are. Probably at least 1 newb an hour gets blown up by the space station when they come back from that part of the tutorial and empty someone else's container. I heard someone say that the AI voice laughs at you if that happens
There are a few wepons and upgrades that I just dont seem to have the skill areas at all... do these become visible later? for example Id really like to use my memory implant... but it requires a skill that is not a choice... will it be ..? later?
All the skills that you don't start with you have to buy a book to learn. Only for the first level of each to get it started, you don't need another book for each level. Cost of the books varies greatly depending on how advanced the skill is. Check the skills part of the market near the bottom of the list.
*EDIT* Oh, and you may want to look at using nuclear instead of EMP ammo.
What I meant by items and skill... hmmm I did understand the MARKET. and I know to find small turrets for my frigate... but it will only let me fill 3 of the 4 slots with turrets... I guess the last one needs to be a hard mounted gun or launcer or miner (pffft whats a mining laser) or something... but Ive yet got the skills to use any other wepon...
So I can learn OTHER skills... but I need to buy a base book to read... is that correct?
cause if that is the case... I gotta get my glasses on... cause my defult skill set is all about flying... not shooting or trade or science upgrades or anything... but you say I can find basic skills in books... I guess I need to buy the basic 1.0.1 skills i dont have , just to kick start them. ...
thanks.
And NO.. that container was not a n00bs because the stuff in it was a matching set... and it was not too basic either... im sure it was a lure
I magine what happened is the player got in his rookie ship and got blown up by the rats (on purpose) at the n00bie deadspace area.. then took his pod back and got in his better ship... then waited for some fly to come and land on their lure.
also... anyone know of any females in the game... and I mean ones that are really girls, not just an avitar?
That is right, there is no restriction on what skills you can learn. There is no class, if you have learned skills that are required for a more advanced skill then you can train it.
For example, there are basic shooting skills like small projectile turret. Then you can learn supplementary skills like sharpshooter, rapid fire, gunnery and such. Each of those skills will argument different stats that turrets already have. Some skills build on other skills for example to get medium turrets you need to have your small turrets at 3, and so on.
To learn a new skill simply buy a book and learn it. However keep in mind that skills can get pricy, while some lower end stuff may seem insignificant. However high end skills end up costing as much as 4.5 bilion.
ahhh.. ok ive bought some skills ... all level one... and I found about 4 I dont have at one place and they where the cheapest (well 3rd) on the list.
which is neat cause thy take like 24 minutes to learn, unlike my core pilot skillerizing that dake days .. and one of the 20 days...
so im gonna do the short skills while I play and the long ones while I sleep.
stuff like Mechanic that leads to various hull upgrades I see as integral. I also got 3 others too... all 1.0.1. type skills that I dont already have... hmmm this is opening up isnt it....
Yep dude, more you do and play more things will start to make sence. I would recomend to look into learning skills as well. They raise your stats; so it takes less time to train your other skills.
Don't confuse the # of high power slots on a ship with the # of mounting hardpoints. Some (most?) ships have more high power slots than weapon mounts as there are several non-weapon devices that use them. Also, depending on your ship, you may be able to use the 'extra' high power slot to mount a missile launcher to supplement your guns as they have seperate hardpoints. Personally I've gone down from 7 to 6 guns on my destroyer so that I can mount a launcher and still have a high power slot for my Goul Energy Siphon. It's nice to use the ship you're destroying to recharge your capacitor
yep i found a university with many learning 1.0.1 packages...
... only 3 jumps away too
so I have also found some angels to shoot as well.
When I finaly learn this Mechanic and learning and hull upgrades and knowledge and iron will and blah blah blah... I think i have 5 or 6 new basic learning books i will change zone
I have found a few ghoul and a smal nosferatu .. they both suck energy from you attacker... just cant use them yet...
so I guess on the 4th slot i could put a mining laser or one of these syphons (that i cant use YET).. I find im still mixinig up my guns.... cant find the ultimate n00bian gun config... but 2 125.. and one 200 mm gun config seems to be the best. Unfortunately I cant stry away from a base for to long as the 200mm gun need to be re fitted with ammo almost every 5 kills or so... and yeah i turn it off once they are closer too.
I guess I should find some NON ammo energy wepons... but i imagine the draw back is cant mend shield cause ive used all my energy as ammo... learning learning.
I've been using all 200mm. If you have ammo in your ship inventory you can reload or even change ammo types in space. Either by drag-and-drop or right clicking on the guns. They're supposed to be able to auto-reload if you run out mid-battle as well but it doesn't seem to work consistently.
Miners use the same harpoints as your guns.
Keep an eye on your weapon ranges and change your default 'keep at' and orbit ranges as your skills improve the distance but also don't waste too much ammo past the accuracy drop-off. With small projectiles you're not hitting nearly as often over 4km, over 10km won't do damage even if you do get an occaisional hit.
Auto re load... ahhhh... You just helped me out heaps... you just made my frustration levels a lot less...
Just figured another work around also.
I have a few new books to read and must store them some place... to avoid the possible loss of cargo if somonbe looks in my floating cargo hold.. if i get shot up... learn the book, cancel and learn another... the book is now avaliable from the skills interface, instad of being an item in the cargo hold or dock... neat... means I can now travel to the next area or adventure and not worry bout being blown up , and if i do, i dont loose all my books.. woohooo is it a spoiler to place stuff like that here?

For example, there are basic shooting skills like small projectile turret. Then you can learn supplementary skills like sharpshooter, rapid fire, gunnery and such. Each of those skills will argument different stats that turrets already have. Some skills build on other skills for example to get medium turrets you need to have your small turrets at 3, and so on.
To learn a new skill simply buy a book and learn it. However keep in mind that skills can get pricy, while some lower end stuff may seem insignificant. However high end skills end up costing as much as 4.5 bilion.
Good luck!
which is neat cause thy take like 24 minutes to learn, unlike my core pilot skillerizing that dake days .. and one of the 20 days...
so im gonna do the short skills while I play and the long ones while I sleep.
stuff like Mechanic that leads to various hull upgrades I see as integral.
I also got 3 others too... all 1.0.1. type skills that I dont already have... hmmm this is opening up isnt it....

Yep dude, more you do and play more things will start to make sence. I would recomend to look into learning skills as well. They raise your stats; so it takes less time to train your other skills.
Have fun!
It's nice to use the ship you're destroying to recharge your capacitor
... only 3 jumps away too
so I have also found some angels to shoot as well.
