I haven't purchased it yet, but I might at some point.  I like GW2 but just not enough, anymore, to pay full price for an expansion.  When it gets down to $10 in the bargain bin, then we'll see.

This. Even then, with some games on the horizon coming out, by then I might just not bother.

From personal point of view , I did buy it, and i have logged in for a total of about 30 seconds since release, i got bored about a month ago with it, find it very boring game at games end, wish i had waited - I only started playing when it went f2p and loved it whilst levelling up, but at top level ive had more fun popping spots in a mirror than that game.. :( sad but true.

This post is all my opinion, but I welcome debate on anything i have put, however, personal slander / name calling belongs in game where of course you're welcome to call me names im often found lounging about in EvE online.

Currently playing other games. I'm interested, but I'll keep checking out people's reactions to the content, and probably buy it when it comes down in price and/or I get bored of the other games I'm playing. I quit very quickly come level 80 and finishing the main story, but maybe the end-game now will be more interesting. Will likely find out someday.

I have been playing without a party and having no problems. People tend to appear.
I have also had little trouble with the difficulty of the mobs but I guess I play a knights juggernaut engineer.

You mean that place where you have 88 9s&10s and 68 0s&1s?

And a majority of those 0s&1s is because it might take 20-40 hours to max the elite specialization, aka, character progression?

    yea, it climbed a little

this is even smaller, than STOs romulus expansion was, and that one was even free

were not talking wildstar disaster here, more like TESO

followed a zerg around for an hour , made 20 points..yay

did it make me a better player? no

did i enjoy it ? no

will i do it again? no

ill just take my revenant to 80 and quit

I just wanted to get a feel on how HoT has been received by this community. Feel free to add why you did, or didn't. Thanks.
No and don't see a reason to buy at all, before we could mix and match some skills and make our builds count, now you are forced to choose and the new class path is a joke, you can't choose your path youa re forced to follow one, pretty much its just some extra lvls, also after cap no reason to care for anything if it don't give money so even less reason to do events, best just farm champions for money IF you still want something.

then they now add raids, dude if I wanted to play on raids I would go back to lineage 2.
FOR HONOR, FOR FREEDOM.... and for some money.

Nope, GW2 lost me after about 4 months. I pop in now and again but it feels so stale and can't see an expansion fixing that.
  • Kayo83Kayo83 Member UncommonPosts: 399
Maybe later. Mostly because I restarted from scratch recently and have no interest in playing the newer class, but also because im playing super casual, off and on, with no real "ambitions" for end game, level caps, etc. Just do it to get my 'fix' of a time long gone... instead of wasting time and money on the next hyped MMO.

Got all classes and HoT is required to get them Elite skills sets.  Didn't take that long to do it solo.  The longest parts are waiting for a others to do difficult mobs with.  Have to guest to a full server and it usually doesn't take that long.  I think it took about a week or two playing causal to get them all to done, even the new class.

I wait for next expansion as that will make HoT free for all. As I understand the rule: you only need to pay for the latest expansion.
I still have a lot of alts that are not fully geared, so im in no hurry.
  • gw2foolgw2fool Member UncommonPosts: 164
With the very basic expansion costing $70.56, more than I paid for the full game. NO, I am not going to buy it!
  • devilisciousdeviliscious Member UncommonPosts: 4,359
I purchased it, but do not think it was worth doing so since I see it did more harm to the game than good and will probably be what makes me stop playing the game. The changes they made to wvw with HoT pretty much killed RvR in this game. Unless they make drastic changes to reverse what they did with HoT and take it in a different direction, I am not sure if I will continue playing.  If it were not for family, guildies and friends, I would have been long gone already.

The DBL maps need to be trashed and the new mechanics need to be tossed. " not Tweaked" but kicked to the curb they are so bad. The new maps are too big, gimmicky, PVE focused, lacking strategic PVP play. They keep players apart , too many escape routes and ability to avoid fights and you spend  all your time  on them looking for the action rather than being in it. They would probably be great PVE maps.. They should go there where they belong and create new PVP maps where the primary focus of them is to keep players involved in PVP action rather than never finding it. PVE Gimmicks have no place in a PvP environment. The DBL maps are pretty deserted, and many people have rage quit over them or are still actively boycotting them refusing to play them at all:

    http://coveragewars2.com/death.php

Instead of going in the direction to make WvW a self sustaining large scale fun and  challenging strategicPvP environment, they tried to force more PVE content, grind, and making it even more Pay to win to compete with the guild upgrade costs, completely eliminated the need to defend anything, roam, or use strategy. Before taking objectives had strategic purposes since you could hit  necessary targets from other targets, you had a reason to defend them. All of that was obsoleted with HoT.

In addition some of the other things they brought in are just lame.. the centaur, turtle and dragon banners add to the Pay to win gimmicks  and grind as well as the guild upgrade defense abilities due  to what it costs to do so cannot be reasonable obtained in WvW, and tries to force people out of WvW to be able to provide the things required to play it. It honestly feels like they do not want people to play the game mode at all and would rather have them out grinding PvE in order to play it. If people are in PVE grinding, they obviously are not playing WvW. Those grinding in PVE cannot possible compete with the credit card players due to the amount of time it takes to earn what is needed to play vs the ease of just paying for it by buying gold and paying other players to do it for them for the items that have to be earned in game. and are not available on the TP, making the  game mode even more pay to win than it was before since it places  even less value on individual players skill and more on being able to purchase turtle banners,  guild upgrades for aerial attacks and such  in addition to the already pay to win aspects of making superior and guild siege so expensive in game. It pushed it over the edge to being extremely pay to win rather than bringing it more in line with  the "not pay to win" small  scale arena pvp. If they treated WvW  like a large scale PvP mode, similar to how they view the small arena PvP, they would  be heading in the right direction to improve the mode. The more they move away from this, the less players continue to play an the game mode dies even further.

The only thing I see beneficial from the HoT was the class/ build improvements. Although, those improvements are not enough to make up for the damage done by the rest  of the update to make it even playable. AT this time, most do not consider the game mode even playable anymore due to it.  Those claiming players do not like change are off base, players LOVE change, when the changes are good, but not all changes are good. These changes are just bad.  The reason the  DBLS were evacuated even during the beta testing are because, yes the maps ARE that bad.  There is a huge difference between good change and bad.. and the numbers leaving wvw and refusing to play on  the DBLs speak for themselves.

WvW is been showing more activity in the last few weeks.

People resist change. The Desert Broderlands are quite nice maps. Some of the mechanics had to be tweaked and they were in the latest patch.

The fact is that HoT added a metric ton of PvE content after a drought since the end of Living Story 2.

I think the following blog post is quite right http://bhagpuss.blogspot.co.uk/2016/01/its-not-end-of-world-vs-world-gw2.html

"(...)This last week or two has seen more activity than any time since before HoT landed. We had commanders with followings on three maps at once over the weekend. There have been big battles over keeps on home BLs. And this isn't just on Yaks Bend. I spent fifty minutes with an EBay commander last week, trying to take a single heavily-defended tower from Maguuma (and how good was it to be fighting Maguuma again? Boy, I've missed them).

Gradually, very slowly, as people finish up their initial goals in the new maps and the last of the new car smell fades from the expansion, the WvW softcore is drifting back. Meanwhile the hardcore, particularly the command structure, has acclimatized. Commanders actually know how to lead a zerg from Impassive Rampart to Fire Keep without falling in the lava lake now. Players are beginning to get an inkling of how the Shrine buffs can change tactics, of when it's advisable to complete or counter the Oasis event, of where to place siege so it actually hits something.

It's been a steep learning curve and plenty have fallen off. Finally, though, some have made it to the top and others have picked themselves up and started to climb again. Just in time for today's Winter 2016 Quarterly Update to shake the ladder and send everyone flying in all directions.

Most welcomed of all, only one opposing player will rally off the death of an opponent, down from five, and fully dead players will have to wait until combat around them has ended before they can expect to be rezzed. Those changes should significantly impact the ability of large, loose zergs to overpower smaller, more disciplined groups. Weight of numbers will still tell, but not in the overwhelming way it has until now.

Or so it's hoped. As always there may be unforeseen and unintended consequences. At the very least, though, these appear to be changes made in response to genuine concerns expressed by players who play WvW, not whipped up on the back of an envelope and dropped in on a whim to the mystification of all.(...)"

Yes, considering not only are you paying for current content, but your also paying for future content until another expansion is released.

I couldn't stand the combat/skills/progression.  I liked the idea of all the exploration/questing stuff since it was different but after a while of having 5 main skills and nearly being capped I was bored out of my skull.
