Star Citizen - Package Split Information

More information from CIG on the split between the Squadron 42 solo game and the Star Citizen multiplayer game.

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/15189-Package-Split-Information

The important part for us existing backers:

"First of all: the package split does NOT impact any current backers. If you’ve already pledged for Star Citizen, you will have access to both the persistent universe and the Squadron 42 single-player campaign. All ‘Squadron 42’ packages sold before the split also include access to the persistent universe. The split applies only to any new packages purchased after February 14, 2016."

There are exceptions to that (which IMHO they should have mentioned):
a) AMD grafic card FREE Star Citizen package only has Star Citizen, not SQ42
b) the old cheap X-mas special for 20 $  only has Star Citizen, not SQ42
c) Early backers (before the  6 M$ stretch goal) have Star Citizen, SQ42 and the first SQ42 mission disc (approx. same size as SQ42 main game) "Behind Enemy Lines"

About the cost .. see the earlier thread here in this subforum and this:

"The base price for either an Aurora starter package (with the persistent universe) or the Squadron 42 single player campaign will be $45. If you would like to add one or the other (Squadron 42 to a Persistent Universe package, or the Persistent Universe to a Squadron 42 package) it will be a $15 addon. (These prices are not final, and are subject to change with future promotions.)"

So expect some of the usual holiday promotions with lower prices. I think the price will go up as release date approaches. My guestimate: up to the typical 55$ of a single player game for SQ42, with something like a season pass for the first Mission Disc "Behind Enemy Lines" and the second Mission Disc after it (still unnamed).

Have fun

So, SC and SQ42 is not just split games, but they are also going to be selling SQ42 in parts, or 'episodes', so even if you pay the $45 for SQ42, your not getting the full game, but will have to shell out more for each episode. So glad the only part of SC i was interested in was the PU, as even more disincentive now to get involved in SQ42, although, if how they are handling SQ42 is anything to go by, the chances are there will be further monetisation of the PU package, probably involving the ships and/or insurance on them.

Have fun indeed, i am sure the beancounters are thoroughly enjoying themselves.

This has just gotten silly. So many mixed up confused opinions about something that is so easy to grasp.

Here we go. This is whats happening: CIG is creating a trilogy of stand alone games. They are:

    First Game
    SQUADRON 42

----Will be released in stages so we can begin playing it earlier.
----A stand alone campaign setting the stage for Star Citizen.
----Everyone who pledged a game package will get it.  (--> up to Feb 14th)
----It includes everything originally planned for, plus more.

    Second Game
    Behind Enemy Lines
    ----Release date not announced
----Used to be envisioned as an expansion pack for SQ42 but with CIG's financial success it got re-envisioned as a complete game.
----Free to those who backed before 6 Million. For sale as a complete stand alone game to anyone else.
----Will probably be released as a whole complete game instead of in stages.
----It continues the story-line of Squadron 42, but is a separate game unto itself.
----It does not require Squadron 42 to install.

    Third Game
    Title to be determined
    ----Release date not announced.
----Will be released as a complete stand alone game.
----Is not an expansion pack or add on to Squadron 42. It only continues the story-line into its third part.
----Is available for purchase as a complete game to anyone.
----Does not require Squadron 42 or Behind Enemy Lines to install.

    I hope this helps

CIG's old plan = Squadron 42 + some expansion packs.

CIG's new plan = Three stand alone games: Squadron 42 (all of it), Behind Enemy Lines, and Third unnamed title.

To be fair, Lesnick is not the most trustworthy of people so it's not surprising people don't pay any attention to the garbage he comes out with.

every post that doesn't come from CR himself is solely the opinion of someone and not official info.

Not sure how its any different from other games releasing a second or third game to continue the story. You could apply "you're not getting a full game" to every game that's had a sequel. Boarderlands, Mass Effect, Darksiders, Halo, etc. This isn't new, the only difference is they're telling whats coming, tbh some knew certain games had planned releases.
