1. Chrono Trigger
2. Earthbound
3. Faxanadu
4. Ultima(the single player ones, not the MMO)
5. Dragon Warrior(I'm talking 1-4) and hopefully get away from the childish anime style they've gone with in the Dragon Quest games and into more realism, the same way FFVII is/has.
I'm sure there's more but those are the ones that come to the top of my head. I agree with the whole list in the article too.
I got chatting with my bro the other night and we thought to ourselves:
"What if Nintendo released a modern N64 and chose 50 games from the N64 to remake, just with modern graphics and controllers?"
For example, I'd love to play Conkers Bad Fur Day on a modern console, along with Goldeneye, Mario Kart 64 and Ocarina of Time. But the 64 had loads of interesting games I'd love to see remade!
Then I thought, what about the Sega Saturn? I know it wasn't a massively popular console but it was part of the dawn of mass market gaming and was filled with unique and interesting titles.
For PC games (going back to OP), a lot of the games I enjoyed have already been rebooted. There are two that come to mind that I'd like to see: Theme Hospital and WH40k: Chaos Gate.
Currently Playing: WAR RoR - Spitt rr7X Black Orc | Scrotling rr6X Squig Herder | Scabrous rr4X Shaman
I would like to see these and more. Oddly enough the .hack// would be a great one to come out with the current VR system because the VR tech that we are creating now is basically the same tech they had in the .hack// world (head set + controller). Would love to see more of this world.
Also I second Legend of Dragoon. Personally do not want a reboot, I would love another game in that world and I really enjoyed the combat style it had.
I want some of the SSI Gold Box games remade. Pools of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades, Ravenloft. Some good times right there.
Ugh. Let all these crappy Japanese RPGs that both looked and played alike RIP.
Secret of Mana played nothing like Breath of Fire, which neither played anything like Tactics Ogre which did not play like Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. And games have similarities, thats what GENRE is.
Western rpgs: Same things applies, have similarities and differences in both gameplay and appearance Baldurs Gate
I would just like to see some old PC games rebooted like:
AD&D: Secret of the silver blades
Starflight 2: Trade Routes of the Cloud Nebula
The Phantasie Series from SSI
I remember playing one of the Phantasie games back in the 80's on a commodore-64 while stationed in Alaska. The floppy drives would overheat and ruin the disk so I would place the drive in the open window to keep it cool during a gaming marathon. My roommate would be so pissed when he came in and our room was 0 degrees with snow blowing in and i was sitting there wrapped in blankets playing.
"Sean (Murray) saying MP will be in the game is not remotely close to evidence that at the point of purchase people thought there was MP in the game." - SEANMCAD
My #1 will always be Xenogears. Xenosaga didn't cut it in the slighest.
I'll never be able to handle a Mana reboot. Playing through that coop with my buddy Brandon in like 4th grade is one of my favorite memories.
5. Dragon Warrior(I'm talking 1-4) and hopefully get away from the childish anime style they've gone with in the Dragon Quest games and into more realism, the same way FFVII is/has.

Yes I would LOVE to play a rebooted Chrono Trigger and Faxanadu!

Those were on console? I thought Gold Box was MC/PC only (but since I loat... dislike consoles, I can't be sure ) Besides that, I think I have to disagree. Call me a purist, but based on the so-called "enhanced" Baldur's and Icewind, I'd say let those goodies in their original state, and on the DOSbox.
Off-topic: do you have a verdict on the latest Test of Times, Rob?
Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy Tactics all need to be rebooted with proper treatment.
Most of the Mana games were terrible. I believe there were two other Mana games released on the Super Famicom that never officially made it state side. You can find ways to play them now, and those were pretty good. The rest that were released I didn't like at all, as they really drifted away from SoM's original ideas.
Chrono Cross was a fun sequel to CT, but they just let the series die. Which is a shame, since there were so many good ideas in those games. Not to mention the story telling was pretty good.
FF Tactics was never treated with the respect it deserved later on. The Gameboy sequels were atrocious, imo. More focus on the stupid Judgement system etc. I am currently playing through the War of the Lions version of FFT on my iPad, the better translation and new cut scenes really enhance the classic game for me. The story behind the original tactics was interesting and mature during a time where many stories in rpgs were created for teens. FFT is still probably my most favorite FF game that isn't part of the actual numbered series.
There are of course a ton of classic rpgs that need reboots or even remakes. In many ways, I feel that the younger generation of gamers are really missing out. There are some amazing games that exist now, but most games are like movies now. All about the flash and less about substance. I really hope we can get back to amazing stories again.
FFT is so good I left it off the list. Sometime you just can't mess with a classic. That and the current crop of strategy RPGs don't add much to what FFT already did so why mess with it when it has a great remaster already with War of the Lions.
I became so nostalgic for FF mystic Quest I actually bought it off of eBay while making this list.
