Nothing. It is a boring, and easy-mode game if you play solo.

You admittedly never got past level 1 missions which makes your statement rather ignorant. You didn't even scratch the surface of this game enough to understand it let alone find any challenging content.

Personally, I love virtually everything about EVE. I've been playing since 2005 making it my longest played title over the course of 3 decades of gaming. I've been rolling with the same crew for about 10 years now, and I could write a series of books with all that we have been through together. It's a game with immense depth and complexity which can understandably overwhelm some, leading to comments like "what do I do now?", "this game sucks", or as above, "it's boring".

I enjoy the PVP obviously but I also spend time running missions, doing some exploration, complexes, and wormholes. I've even carved out my own little spot on the marketplace manufacturing specific ships for specific regions. Recently I've started to do some industrial work including both mining and hauling; something I thought I'd never enjoy but found out how wrong I was. There are periods of months I find myself in 0.0 not only PVPing but ratting to beef up my wallet. This is just off the top of my head.

I thoroughly enjoy logging in saying hmmmmm, what do I feel like doing today?

the player base is there, they are losing multiple accounts on the same person ( I went from 5 accounts to 3 for instance) because they are creating new things that make it so you dont need multiple accounts.

PVP in Eve is the only PVP i really enjoy, fleet or solo its always a great challenge and not gimicky due to lag or jumping or other stupid stuff. You have to understand the mechanics of the game to do it well. Just like in real life - you have to understand and plan what you want to do to succeed in your goal.

I like that you can choose to do whatever you want in the game.  Want to be in a fleet and go around hitting targets OK, want to be a pirate and wait for fools to fly by with precious cargo OK, or maybe you want to be that pirate target and haul cargo around for the big money youll get.

Eve  IS what you make it, its not a cookie cutter grinder game, it takes time, patience and a lot of adderall :)

Couldn't vote, needed an "all of the above" option.

EVE isn't so much about the individual mechanics, components or activities, but how they all interact to create an interesting virtual world that really appeals to me.

PvP for me. Pve just allows me to pay for my accounts and Pew. Three C4 sites an hour + salvage = 300ish mil per hour in a Paladin. So one hour per day till you get a plex.

Eve needs gameplay that isn't related to killing in some way - but might make you feel more connected to the universe - and might make you feel more inclined to defend your patch. For example, breeding weird planet sized space monsters!

For example, WoW's got collectable and aesthetic elements. It's got pet battles.

Elite Dangerous has got exploration and community goals.

Eve has plenty of non-killing gameplay. PI, mining, production, corporation management, exploration, trading, and more. It probably has more gameplay varieties than 75% of the games in genre.

Though maybe you meant gameplay without risk. If that's the case, then Eve's probably not the game for you.

I found the game to be very shallow and boring.

Well, perhaps what I meant to say was an activity makes you feel another emotion.

For example, an activity that is intrinsically amusing - makes you laugh.

Or an activity that makes you go "aww!"

I love the industrial aspect of Eve.  I used to love mining roids while I studied, something soothing about the mining laser sound...  Sadly being a solo industrialist is kind of boring and joining a corp often involves corp wars or griefing.

I voted "PvP" because ultimately that's what EVE is all about. It's a PVP sandbox. Without other players, I don't think it would be worth playing at all, as much as I love the universe and the lore. And the soundtrack... oh god, that soundtrack. Especially the old Revelations theme song. It's not just nostalgic, either. This game is worthy of critical praise.

Those who think EVE is just a game of numbers, spreadsheets, blob warfare, are missing out on the core of what EVE offers. It's an open ended universe where everything that matters is decided by the players. The adventures are out there waiting for you, but they aren't going to be served to you on a silver platter as in other games.

In that sense, it works kind of like a mirror, in that, you get back what you put into the game. If you're a boring person then the game will seem boring to you. But if you long for exhilarating combat, thrilling adventures, hilarious and crazy tactical situations, then EVE is the game for you. There's a wealth of experience out there in New Eden. It could be a thousand player battle, a lone wolf fighting for survival in hostile territory, or two noobs dueling eachother station-side. The catch is you have to be willing to go out there and create these situations. But if you're willing to do that, the options are functionally limitless.

Of course, it's not just about "combat" PvP, which is what people generally think of when they think of "PvP". In EVE PvP can mean different things. Traders can affect other players for better or worse by manipulating markets, doing buyouts or stockpiling certain areas, which not only has a direct effect on the game environment and other players but can actually serve as valuable intel - if you have an enemy buying things from one of your characters (and he probably doesn't even know it) you now have information that can be used against him - potentially knowing what ships he's bought recently and even how he's likely to fit them.

This is all, of course, barely scratching the surface of this magnificent game. I could go on about the art of solo PvP, smacktalk, scamming, extortion, politics, the differences between high- low- and null-sec, wormholes that lead to unmapped and lawless space, mining, manufacturing, science, planetary interaction, even good old fashioned spaceship races.

Best of all, it's a "hardcore" MMO. There are no safe zones. Except high-sec, but even in high-sec you could be suicide-ganked at any moment, or war-decced by mercenaries, or you could just make one of many innocent mistakes that wind up getting your ship incinerated. Besides, unlike fantasy MMOs, EVE can realistically get away with safe zones based on the science fiction setting. It's politics, you make a wrong move and you're flagged suspect and anyone can attack you, or you're simply blown up by the space police. It works in a setting like New Eden, whereas in fantasy MMOs they just put up a magical barrier and say "this is a safe zone" and that's it, as if you couldn't sneak up and assassinate someone if you wanted. That's carebear shit.

EVE manages to accomplish all of this while still having amazing graphics, spectacular vistas, a massive universe with thousands of star systems, stations, planets, asteroid belts. I don't understand why people think it's too hard. I started playing when I was twelve years old, and yes, it's a very difficult game, but the atmosphere and the open-ended sandbox nature of it are enough to keep me around forever, even if I have to be shit at the game for the rest of my life. It's simply too beautiful to walk away from. One of the few worthy MMOs in existence.

everything , it is only mmo on market who is based on players interactions;friendly ,hostility, scamming, treachery, loyalty ... everything ... just awesome virtual universe without any limitations

PVP is the only thing I don't like about it; combat PVP and otherwise.

The pve is amazing, my favorites are PI mining and scanning/exploring. Even the lore is pretty interesting, one of the rare few mmos that rises above junk fiction level. Music and graphics are superb.

Dammit now I want to sub again.

I guess the only thing I like about it is that it is sci-fi.  That's why I have tried to play/like the game on many occasions.  It's overall gameplay is why I don't like it after I have tried to play/like the game on many occasions.

So you played about 5 minutes? Saying it is shallow is pure ignorance and proves you don't know jack about a EVE.

actually i got up to level 3 or 4 pve missions .. but yeah .. it is boring and easy-mode so I stop playing. And no ... a game that is not fun for the 15 min .. i won't bother to understand it. I plainly don't waste time on boring parts of a game to get to the fun parts.

I used to love EVE but after a while the "need" to have a group got old.  Doing solo stuff was either hugely risky or boring.  But trying to organize a bunch of people on comms and in fleet only to run into a bigger fleet or get camped into station got really old, really fast.  Add to that the constant betrayals by leadership and the spying metagame, it just made it not fun any more.  I quit almost 2 years ago after playing since 2004 and I'm still pretty happy I did.

    Currently the casual PvE side.

In the past, when i had more spare time  ... fleet battles (large scale PvP), 0.0 hunting (small scale PvP) and group content (high end group PvE).

In addition to all that - trading, industry  and manufacturing as an additional  source of in game income

    Have fun

please more detail on this, i havent been playing eve for quite some time and i really hated the fact that I had to multi-task 2-3 accounts to get things done

I like that it is only 3 letters long, makes it easy to do the Wikia search.
I also like that i can take the letters ,reverse them and it still spells Eve .
I also like that it has offline advancement, that way i can just sit at my resort in Lake Tahoe catching Alligators off my 5 1/2 foot yacht with twin inboard Mercury's :)

I like the fact that EVE players are so dedicated they stick with it.

Means that the really dedicated EVE players never play the games I play and for that I am thankful.

I created the account to make that post, yeah. But it's only because I just started using this web site and I couldn't help but post in a thread I saw about my favourite game. [mod edit]  I happen to love the game and those are some of my thoughts on it. Just because you disagree doesn't make it reasonable for you to accuse me of such nonsense.
