How does this game compare to that other (I think) Korean game that came out a bit ago? The one with the supposedly awesome character creation. Fuck, I can't remember the name. See? Old age.
How old can you be? Ultima came out in 97. That doesn't point to any place near old.
In any case, to answer your question, I like it better than Blade and Soul though Blade and Soul's combat seems more like one of those "fighter games". However, Black Desert has a better feeling to the world. It feels more like a world.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Ah hell, I might give this game a try. Not much to lose.
Anyway, how bad is the combat for an old timer with slow reaction times and fumble fingers? Is it Wildstar maddening where you have to constantly dodge and weave and shit while attacking, constantly staying out of the red zones?
I mostly PvE, little PvP.
Thanks!
Well yes you need to re-position constantly BUT you can reduce that if you pick a range class Wizard for the beard or Witch for the but Although wizard is more friendly while you can make the witch mid range fighter as well Archer have good range as well but it feels a lot more twitchy And don't worry about PvP untill the end levels and even after that you can easily avoid PvP or at least reduce it to a weekly encounters(dont join a guild and stay away from the main grind spots in later levels will keep your PvP interactions to minimal) also there is A LOT to do PvE wise if you are into crafting, exploring.
p.s. There are 2 types of guilds* "clan" and "guild" clans are basically social low number communities they cant be declared war on but their limit was only 15 members and beside sharing a text tab and tags there is not much to it.So Clan good Guild BAD :proud:
and of course keep in mind that until release all info is subject to change...
blade and soul was shallow IMO the questing and grinding especially. About the only thing going for it is the combat system but I found that not as fun after about a week playing the game. I wouldnt recommend it just for how shallow it is.
Im old school mmorpg also eq and daoc but in my upper thirties so not as old but I adapted to the new school mmorpg combat and it has its good points. But in all honesty after playing ESO for over a year guild wars 2 for almost a year and games like wildstar and tera I actually appreciate old tab targeting much more now as there is actual tactics to combat that are not really there in action combat games. All you basically do in action combat games is block or dodge its the same thing over and over. The old tab targeting at least have some choices etc.

Amen! I'm glad I'm not the only one who appreciates old school tab+target.
This new generation of MMO's really worry me. It seems everybody and his dog wants 'Action Combat' these days. Sadly, if it keeps going like this, I can see the day coming where I won't be able to play games at all anymore

Hell wait till VR hits and we have to move around faster. We could be really screwed.
I'll let you know after the weekend. I got a free beta key so will be checking it out.
I'm an old fart too and prefer to use my left hand for just WASD, E and space. Double tapping for dodges is fine too.
But I do have a good programmable mouse with umpteen buttons where I routinely map, Shift, Alt and all the hotbar buttons... that helps a lot. I've had no problems playing games like Dragon's Dogma, The Witcher, GW2, Archage and ESO like that.
I'm rolling a wizard which is pretty combo-heavy... we'll see how it goes.

I posted the other day that the gaming demographic is far different than it used to be. Thanks for proving my point, folks:) I'm 55 yrs old and a Grandma to boot, ya just never know who you're playing with(unless you know who you're playing with...lol). I made a character on one game named "NanaDudeBro" because players are always saying "Dude!" , "Bro" when speaking to me-doesn't bother me but I always think....."if they only knew" . Thanks for the informative posts....I will be trying BDO after launch when the hype dies down a little. Until then, have fun my fellow old farts!!
Your comment at the end, mostly PvE, little PvP might be a concern for BD.
BD's end game is non existent in terms of PvE. There are no end game dungeons, raids, nothing. There are a few world bosses to kill but they are super easy, like, make GW2 world bosses look like AQ40 easy.
The end game here is about as exclusivley PvP as it gets. I think the only game I've ever played that is more PvP endgame that this was Matrix Online.
If PvP isn't real, and I mean, REAL high on your list....you might want to try something else.
The reality is no mmo is "too hard" no matter how old you are.
Where the difference is how you approach them. I'm on a real Korean kick lately, Love Tera, Adore BnS, and preordered BD. I'm older, not ancient, but no teen.
There is a difference in age though. My son joined BnS, he has already out leveled me, I'm 39, he is 44 already, he's died maybe 5 times, i died much more than that. He has a trillion potions and dumplings still i have a few dozen as i consume them constantly.
He is the same class as me and when we were both 38 we were in Jadestone and he wanted to duel, we start, I'm dead in seconds, actually i don't even think i got in a strike.
Here is where the real difference is, he wanted to give me an advantage so i get to beat him until his health was under half, as his health gets there a 42 on my faction outfit jumps in the fray, startling my son in a wtf moment he aggro'd 3 Jadestone guards.
After what seemed to be a 10 minute fight, I'm dead, the 42 is dead and the 3 guards are dead, he has about a quarter health left. On Skype he's like, "that was unexpected". lol Like it was nothing, then asks if i want to go again after he heals up first of course, lol. I know my jaw was on the floor as well as the 42. Dang man I'd be flying around the house screaming did you SEE THAT? OMG that was legendary.
So it really depends on how you want to approach them, I'm there to relax, and dying really doesn't bother me too much, and really what is dying lately, ain't no corpse run. My son blasts through, i take my time. Bottom line, you're never too old.

based on CBT1 that i played, its not really that bad for old farts. Blade & Soul requires more quick responses/quick reflexes IMO. Based on my own experience in BDO you have more freedom to fight at the pace you like. The combat is great and less based on 0.5 second reactions like B&S tends to be.
Not sure if anything changed for CBT2. I do hope they make the trash mobs in the open world a lot harder AND smarter. In CBT1 you could wipe the floor with a swarm of mobs with your eyes closed.
Europe and early 40s as well here... I signed for beta 2 to check how it is. Im also more for pve and less for pvp but enjoyed pvp with Archeage which was decent combat..is it similar? Also if i end up buying it Id love to join a guild with average similar age players who dont expect you to be uber in a few days playing 24/7..:)

Depends on who you ask, a 20 year old will most likely say hes an old man but a 60 year old will say he still wet behind the ears.
@OP like some others here have said look into getting some macros going via KB or mouse to avoid fumble fingers, combo panic and carpel tunnel.
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
Are the controls similar to how ESO plays? I had to do some re-mapping of keys in order to make that game work for me using a mouse and Nostromo game pad. Hopefully I'll be able to make it work with BDO.
I'm an older gamer(43) and I really don't care for games with "twitch" based combat but I'm willing to give the game a try and see how it is.
I am 55 and I know my limitations. I also have quite bad joints my wrist, shoulder and elbow joints ache. So even though I have a G600 mouse I can play most games with macros but it still takes a toll so I have kinda given up on newer games. I am playing other games not MMORPGs. Games like turn based stuff X-Com and Divinity Original Sin and will be trying out Sorcerer King soon as I can get the game cheaper.
As a housewife my hands also get a lot of work done around the house that cleaning and such take time in a 4 bedroom house with two bathrooms with no maid. So on those days my hands are even more tired. So I finally decided to treat my hands better before they decide to go on strike and play stuff that are not so bad for my hands. I gave up Wild* and Tera as these games inevitably caused me aches and pains.

I'm sitting here at age 24 reading the chat of the old farts. I wish my parents would understand gaming, they think its for kids while playing candy crush on their tablet. Rip me.
