Is this a for real? This sounds to me like milking the ship market with a cash shop. CIG never cease to amaze me with their ability to include more and more ridiculous "features" into their non existing game.

Since a few people have said they want PROOF:

Here is Chris Roberts confirming decay at the 10:03 marker (or click this link).

    What do you guys think?

    Is this a good idea?
Only implemented for a cash shop to sell ships after release?
Another feature that will never make it into the final game?

    Have faith!
It does make sense in some way... If you buy a car you'd have 'decay' over time as well, and maintenance from time to time will keep the car in good working order.

I hope that regular maintenance' of the ships will counter this decay or else the game becomes a whole lot more expensive than I could ever imagine...
They so far do not have a post release funding plan. How are they going to support this truly massive game when they have no subscription or any other form of income?

They need to sell something to keep those 4 Offices worldwide running. I doubt it will be fish tanks for your hangar.

Secretly we all very well know where this is eventually going. Most just have not accepted it yet and still think Croberts is the saviour of space games and MMO's which will deliver this unbelievably complex and huge game completely free.

    Have faith!

So far what has officially been said is that regular maintenance counters decay.

That something is ruined permanently through decay (and needs to be rebought)  is so far only a claim by some poster here, with nothing to back their claim.

Has been answered many times here on this subforum AND the answer is in the SC FAQ.

Erillion, what is an edibyte? Also, kick those studio people in the behind to push out 2.2 so I can have some new material. It's just a damn tech demo, it's not like the thing has to be "ready" like a finished game.
  • Adjuvant1Adjuvant1 Member RarePosts: 2,100
Actually, the links "do work" to something, but we don't have access. If it "didn't work" it would 404.

    No.

And you have to find a shady insurance broker in the dangerous outer pirate systems to insure your stolen ship at all. And you better get a new, "clean" transponder for it while you are there. All of this will cost you a share of your in game currency income.

    None. of. this. exists.
It's funny how people make up these amazing stories yet nothing of the sort exists at all and is if anything baseless speculation.

It's like the guys on the CIG forums talking about their career as mechanic, press photographer for a imaginary newspaper or Bartender in a game that does not even have the most basic functionality working yet.
Then why do you keep making these threads if your not going to take in the information given?
Why ask these questions if you just gonna laugh at the answer?

And just so you know, yes it is speculation an opinions at this point, something we have been saying for the past few months to you, but you're just getting that now? smh

Whats going on is no different than any game in development. The devs give details of what they plan to do and where they want to take the game and the players share their opinions and speculate the outcomes and what not. Again you're trying to turn something normal into something strange and only happening in the SC community.

Not sure you need any other form of income when people are willing to buy virtual ships .  When this game actually launches I imagine these people will be buying even more.  Hats off to Chris Roberts. He knows how to bring in the bucks.

Basically it's just the regular money sink, an expensive one though (and certainly when you let your ship decay till destruction...)

    2) Will there be a point where they can't be repaired at all?
Yes and no. You can always repair the HP of a part to full after combat, but condition is unrecoverable.

so if condition is unrecoverable,  then surely at some point it will reach 0 and be unusuable

This post is all my opinion, but I welcome debate on anything i have put, however, personal slander / name calling belongs in game where of course you're welcome to call me names im often found lounging about in EvE online.

The Developer only writes about possible  reduced effectiveness with age. Nothing about condition reaching 0 and ships becoming only repairable through "re-buying" it as the thread title suggests.

Sounds kinda like DAoC armor and weapons. You can repair them only so many times before they break for good. This in it self is a good thing for any economy. The problem here is the fact they have sold ships for a few hundred to thousands of dollars (making millions) before disclosing this. This is dirty business considering many were looking at life time insurance on the products they bought now looking useless. In short, fraud, scam, charlatan. IMO if you have the ability to charge back your support of this game. Do it now while they still have money to give back.

This game is the most amusing game I've never played or will play. You seriously couldn't make this shit up. That 10k ship you bought? Enjoy re buying that a few months into launch (if it ever launches)! Woo! That sounds pretty fucking ace doesn't it?! ahahahahaha

yeah, I find all the negative  interest in this game creepy and fascinating at the same time.
I dont understand why people just dont simply go play a different space sim and just ignore this game. Its not like this is the only option out there

Again I have to reiterate, are people buying ships or are those ships incentive rewards for pledges made? That's in the eye of the beholder.

I mean is a ship in a game worth $10k in real money? To me it isn't.. Like I said before if I were to fork over thousands it wouldn't be for a digital item, there would have to be a larger more sensible reason.  Not that I view crowdfunding to be a sensible reason, I'd be looking at a rare Gibson or Rickenbacker personally. ive stopped bashing SC it got to point it was like shooting fish in a barrel. so my post was made with 0 reference on it being good or bad, personally i think this game could end up the most profitable vapourware ever made.. i dont think CR helps himself but, for the backers and players i 100% hope the game releases at least close to what they wanted / backed.

I put my mouse over a ship it shows how much it sells for. I get some people backed this game to back this game. Some backed this game because they were buying a ship with lifetime insurance. After 100 mill in backed money, then they drop this bomb. If disclosed before people backed it np. Make it so only ships bought going forward have this new break rule and you break they game balance. I know if I had bought a ship (and thats how I would have looked at it) I would be charging back my credit card ASAP!

If they look at it as buying ships, expect outrage, if they don't, well outrage is less likely.
