Bombing is subjective. Some great games die in a year simply because they are too niche. Some really terrible games live on because...well I don't really know why.

when a post I made two days ago is still there as a second post and the game just came out and is a major AAA release.

Indeed, although as of lately SW TOR's forums beat WoW's hands down.

I know an MMO is going to bomb hard when the advertisements don't push some exciting / new feature of game-play. Instead, they'll market the sexy graphics - and usually have no mention of game-play at all.

From this one can assume that the game-play will be 'generic' - unexciting. The status quo.

This is how the human brain works - we are bombarded with so many messages per day that we immediately look for the salient points and nothing else. Rather like how you will speed read this post, I imagine.

When the people in charge are well educated and don't play video games.

Are you onto something or just on something?

Examples of what the adverts said:

Eve online - adverts said every player on the same server, implied full loot PvP, can build your own empire of players. Look at the YouTube advert "The Butterfly Effect" - this is an absolutely suberb example.

(old) Darkfall - players on same server, depending on location, full loot, build your guild castle, build your guild ships.

The Secret World - adverts said you would be investigating the mysteries of the modern world.

Do you see what I mean?

they will get mass pre order, mass alpha sell cd key from everyone who are trying each new mmorpg for find a good new games and something they can enjoy for a long time, they will release a p2win cash shop where many people who have pre order will be angry and leave with rage, but the dev will not care because these guys would have not pay in the cash shop and anyway the dev got enouh money from them because of the 100$ ++ pre order packages, the whales will give the big money, then they will switch f2p and caught more people who spend money on the games after some times they will close the games ( some year ).

it will pay their crappy development cost and be realy profitable, then they will go make archeage 3.0 and repeat,

i mean it clearly profitable all these f2p do it just like that and it work

people will cry when the game become more and more pay to win, they will cry and whine about these devil dev, the dev will laught at them, and the players will buy their new games anyway when it release in some years, all over again.

It won't bomb - it will do in line with what it was always going to do - a niche game success.

    Same happened with ArcheAge.

The PvP centric guild vs guild games only appeal to a niche audience in the end - and were never meant to capture mainstream gamers period.

Why this is surprising to anyone is beyond me.

Which is why this trash keeps getting made, cause there are enough suckers to buy, sad really.

Depends on the definition of Bomb.  What are the Publishers expectations? Where do they expect to be in 6 mos, or a year. BDO in the end is a PvP niche game, not exactly clear what type of player numbers they expect to see in a year.

I was not aware that ArcheAge bombed, it's a great game, people just don't know how to play it, just as this case with many games.

Name a game, and there will be the doom people.  When it happens they will then proclaim loudly that they told us so.  Of course, when they say it about every game, it's kind of hard to not win.

I'd bet nearly 90% of the people playing the CBT2 right this very minute all intend to play it like it were a PVE game... then get all mad when they realize they can't play a PVP game as if it were a PVE game for very long.

If Black Desert is your idea of obvious disaster, you've never seen an obvious disaster.  Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment turned Stargate Worlds into a pyramid scam before MGM revoked their license to use the Stargate IP, which forced the cancellation of a game whose developmental progress was already dubious.  Now that's an obvious disaster.

I say they should do a kick starter... it's all about how you fleece the public... not that you fleece the public.

From what I seen in my short CBT stay I say a game that almost plays itself is a good indicator but the real research was...

So far though it will be super great for a short and I mean short time.

PvE players will find they get OW FFA at 50 so if they want to play they will have to contend with getting their ass handed to them a few times a day.

PvE players will have a hay day for awhile but then slowly realize that to partake of the FUN they will be forced to PvP because there is always that one guild that will gank in groups because they have nothing else to do but wait for the next cycle of sieges and resources control.

PvP players will find that 4 times a week in a 4 hour window if they want PvP they need to adjust their schedule to accommodate the time frame or wait for the next cycle or they can kill PvE players just so they can giggle or kill each other for the kicks and giggles since there are no rewards for PvP outside of the scheduled sieges.

I don't think this will matter to a few but the fast majority of PvE and PvP will probably bail around 51.
