CHECK IT OUT! New MMORPG history made with SWG!!!!

I'll post more details later, but here is the main gist:

Everyone get the issue of Computer Gaming World  Feburary 2006 issue. It has a cover story on Guild Wars. (Pic of female Assassin with 10,000 knives all over her on the cover LOL!).

Now here is the historical part dealing with Star Wars Galaxies! (Not to be confused with Classic SWG which no longer exists, even though it was the most flawless mmorpg ever made.....)

On the COVER of this major magazine, they say SWG... s-u-c-k-s! Yes, they use that word! There is even more! AFTER they state SWG sucks, they go on to say SONY's current attempts to "make SWG better", to "make SWG more Star Warsy", is .... even.... WORSE!

Never before has major media ever printed such scathing, negative, derogatory, conclusions to a NEW review BEFORE the start of the review! Basically, the entire review is on the cover! (There is also more inside in the article.)

----------------------------------

In other SWG news,  the magazine PC Gamer  Febuary 2006 issue, (it has a skeleton on the cover, and a blurb "Top 10 Games of 2006" also on the cover.) has yet ANOTHER FREEEEE trial of SWG. The free trial is on the back cover of their magazine. I'm soooo annoyed at what SONY has done to Classic SWG, that even I hesitate to use the free trial on the back cover.  I am nervous to see how gutted SWG has become... *sniff* Well, I still have the wonderful memories of playing Classic SWG during the first year SWG was out, right before the Jedi Hologrind Mess started.

-------------------------------

Hopefully ALL the mmorpg companies, game DEVs, investors, moderators, and fans, and fansites, will read the cover, and story in Computer Gaming World  to LEARN from it. Febuary 2006 issue. Your local Library should have it. Same with major bookstores, newstants, or just order it image

    Stage 3 -- Profit!

It appears that Stage 2 was: "Make the game FUBAR."

I don't understand why so many people think old SWG was flawless.  It was full of bugs, not balanced, and was ruined by Jedi.  I quit a few months before the CU.  The reason the CU happened was because everyone was complaining about broken skills, and how the game wasn't very balanced, there was no point to the GCW, and many many more problems.  If they would of just taken half a year or so to fix the game before it came out it probably wouldn't of went like this, or even instead of doing the CU they could of actually fixed the game instead of changing it.

Anyone saying Pre-CU was flawless never played it. End of discussion. I think what most people will agree with is that Pre-CU had more potential to be a great game than the NGE does. They shot themselves in the foot by showing us all a very unique gaming system that no one else had, and then morphing it (badly I might add) into the same system EVERYONE else has. Really, there has been one MAJOR mistake that SOE, specifically the SWG department at SOE, has made throughout this game's lifespan. That's releasing to the public a game that should still be in alpha testing. When it was released, it was still an alpha. When they developed the CU and put it live, it was still an alpha. When the NGE was forced onto the servers, hell I don't even think it qualifies as an alpha, cause alpha means at least barely playable. Alpha means still in INTERNAL TESTING. No one should have seen the mess the original Pre-CU, no one should have seen the mess the CU was, absolutely no one should be seeing the NGE now. What pisses most people off, and the reason they can't get steady subscribers now is that they have this "la la la" attitude about selling a product that is unfinished, unrefined, uninspired (NGE), and underdeveloped. Why do WoW and GW and the like win in the subsciption department? Was it gameplay? Was it content? Hell no. It's cause WoW and GW were at least mostly complete when they released them. SWG never was.
P.S. You also failed to mention the other reason SWG has broken failure records. Only game in history to win Coaster of the Year for 2 years running. To do that, it actually takes quite a bit of skill in sucking.

    I wouldnt say, "Flawless?"

Pretty much anyone that you talk to that played Pre-CU would agree on one thing, it had tremendous potential. It was nowhere near flawless, I would even call it finished. Alas the Devs didn't seem to have any clue on how to get it to work though either. They seemed more like maintence devs and had the real guys working on the expansions instead.

Pre CU could have been easily fixed.

Most of the problems were with SWG's horrible engine, which cause even more problems with the NGE. Now it doesn't matter cause the NGE has just taken away content and added some new movement and dumbed the game down.

    It hasn't added anything tbh.

Problem exists now is they'ved put 3 game systems in one and gotten lost in the mess and bugs they've created! Where do they start? they don't know, probally do another CU and ruin it some more!

I wonder if there will ever be text books on the history of MMOs.

If there ever are, I am sure there will be a chapter dedicated entirely to SWG.

More like "The one mmorpg with the MOST blunders ever!"

    - NEVER took advantage of the recent Star Wars movie being out, to put a SWG trailor before it in theaters. EQ2, and MxO, both had trailors in theaters!

    - SWG was experiencing record explosive growth its first 6 months out. 300k in less than 1 year?!?  They DIDN'T leave the game alone to see where it would TOP OFF at by itself. Instead they STOPPED its growth by putting in the Jedi Hologrind mess! SWG went from having 330k accounts, and growing.... to stopping dead in its tracks and losing 200k accounts! IF they had simply let the game be, it would easily be at 1 million  accounts at present time. And this is without  advertising in theaters during the Revenge of the Sith movie.

    - The game DEVs kept adding new stuff ahead of taking care of minor, and major, game bugs! Priorities should be the other way around!

    - The fact they even allowed the Jedi Hologrind Mess to be allowed in the game! SWG was marketed as checking out the OTHER 30+ professions. Not being another Jedi Outcast game....

    *sniff*

Old swg was...well it was fun, to a point. I liked it ok I guess.

I tried the new one nt too long ago, and it was worse, but worse than something that wasn't very good in the firstplace just made me think they should scrap it and try again.

They came from the sea and they came from the sky, Captain America is going to die!

Pre CU SWG was hardly flawless. I'll agree it was better than this NGE monstrosity... but "flawless"??? Hardly.

SWG's problems, as summarized by another, was that they never fixed the original problems with the game before layering on more and more new problems. Core aspects of the game are flawed which means every change and addition they heaped on top of it made things worse till the NGE happened. Now the game is so fubar even the die hard fans are bailing on it.

he spoke the truth, SOE hates us, and us SWG's Veterans hates SOE... Since of the recent event's going around, from jack thompson speach, SWG's Betrayal, and other bad things going on. It seems that we are going to have a war, a civil war for justice on bad, greedy companys like SOE. We all can smell the ashes of the companys, and we all going to see where the ashes is coming from.

After you get done with SOE, head on over to EA and wreck that piece of crap too.

I played SWG at release.  It definitely wasn't flawless.  I'd say it was just in a barely working condition.  But it was still certainly better than the crap they've done to it recently.  I tried one of the trials a few months ago, and I was horrified at what happened to it.  Obviously they are going for the Kids Love Star Wars angle, which works with most games.  And kids love FPS too.  But those same kids are probably not going to talk their mommy into using her credit card for a $15 a month bill for a game she already bought.  It's a losing target audience for a game like this.

At release the game was so insanely unbalanced in many aspects that it would just make you mad as a hell lol. I was a rebel on Bria and fighting someone which was a imperial who had 3 at-st's which 1 was unstoppable to my wookie tk artist made me want to shoot someone. I would get one shot killed from a faction pet....which they had 3 of. I kep thinking it'll get fixed. Wookies will get to use armor but nope that didn't happen....they just made everyone elses armor unstoppable.

I took matters into my own hands and stacked dodge from pistoleer and fencer, use the pistol skills from smuggler and fought as hard as I could. This didn't matter seeing as how other people had my same build but could wear armor that stopped 90%+ of all damage I would deal to them. I could have used a stun damage pistol but they done horrible damage and it wouldn't have matter anyhow.

The basic game wasn't bad at all....it was actually very good in comparison to WoW, EQ2's newb carebear land worlds. If they had taken swg and had a fully open pvp server then I would have loved it. It was kind of retarded that I could go overt get killed by someone, clone, come straight back out and stand beside the guy that just killed me and all he could do is stand there an look at me.

No matter what people say completely open pvp is the only realistic way to have pvp done. I think there should be harsh punishment for abusing the system though to cut back on griefing. Anyhow, no swg was definently not flawless at all.

ok the forums are swallowing up my posts again...

    so what i said was...

reading about SWG makes me die a little inside. i miss playing SWG a whole lot. i had made alot of good close friends (leading to real life friendships) from that game. but, alas, they botched it up. the game with so much promise got shat on and fed to the pigs. i'm saddened by how it all came to rest in the gutter.

bring back old SWG. i'd give anything to have the old flawed version than the new riddled with bullet wounds version.

if SWG were a wounded horse they would've put it out of its misery already.

    oh well
