I really don't understand how this guy is so popular and rich. I don't have anything negative to say about him. I just don't get it. Maybe I'm getting old.

To be cool you have to like the things all the other cool people like.

    The Khardashians
Wearing your trousers around your ankles
    Big Brother
    etc...

You should jump on the band wagon :)

I don't have anything negative to say about him either, just that he is not worth watching or following.

However if you know anything about Twitch and how it operates and people make money, you will know the whole gest of it.

Streamers are constantly view botting because what attracts viewers and potential money is a large crowd,no different than the way large shopping malls are more popular than that one small store.View botting is a serious problem as far as being FAIR to legit users.

Now i was not there when this pewdipie guy started but i would venture a bet that he likely got popular by view botting.BTW botting is usually done in very alrge numbers, most botting is done around 70-90% of their entire viewer base.

It creates revenue of which Twitch CLAIMS of late they can spot and not pay out  accordingly,i somewhat disbelieve them.Twitch does not ban streamers for botting because there is no way to tell who is causing it,a streamer could simply use another account or computer to viewbot his own channel.

The point of it all is to attract sponsors, advertisers, large crowds to the channel,it is all about $$$$$.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

The odd thing is about this new version of band wagons is that nothing happens when you click like. Imagine what high school is like now. quite cafeterias with 20,0000 kids looking at their phones.

WTF is wrong with people? "Play a game! Not me! I'd rather watch SOMEONE ELSE play a game!"

I don't get it, the only streamers I watch at all are either high-level professionals that play a game that I enjoy watching, or actual RL friends or people I know.

Watching live steamers is like watching other people have sex.

It isn't as much fun (at least for most people) and is usually done because you cannot do it yourself.

If I could downvote an article, I totally would this one. Anything covering a YouTuber who is so self-absorbed with themselves s "news" is just plain wrong in itself. Oh yes, Pewdiepie is so self-absorbed that the person is doing a YouTube Red show with his own name in the title that rips like an old MTV jump scare show.

    Don't provide him views.

Don't click play on the video in the article.

Booooo, MMORPG for posting this. BOOOOOO!!! Shame on you!

I think there is something to be said about seeing how a game plays before you buy it.

Having said that, and to your point, I wanted to see what Demon's Souls was like and found a youtube video of "super best friends" who play it.

While there was some good info there and it was nice to see how the game differed from Dark Souls/Dark Souls II, it was such a painful experience I had to turn it off.

Twitch and YouTube are two totally different platforms. While I'm not a fan I do work with tons of people under the age of 18 and PewDiePie is generally known for his videos on YouTube and large subscriber numbers. Where you got Twitch and view bots, which are unrelated to this topic, from I'm not really sure.

No idea why you'd even bring up view botting. Especially since PDP doesn't even stream on twitch. Wizardry, you seem really jaded about the whole thing. PDP got popular because of the algorithm that youtube used to use for their videos. His nationality, where he lives, speaking english, these and other factors led him to be shown up as a recommended video for a lot of people. I really don't know the full details though.

Certain things on twitch I find entertaining like speedruns or competitions. Watching very high level play in a game like CS:GO is entertaining, even for me, a guy who has very little idea of what's going on. I also find it useful to check out a bit of a game (specifically mmo's) and ask the person playing questions about the game.

Not a fan of PDP, but I don't really understand the hate for him. I don't watch his videos or ever look him up, I understand I'm not his audience. I doubt most people on this site are.

The demographic watching these videos is 12-18 year old boys. So unless you're part of that group, you'll think it's silly.

Sorry, let's try this again. This is the best video I have ever seen, independently increasing the size of breasts on a character is all I ever wanted in a game.

    Better?

I cannot believe all the whining and crying in this comment section. Literally the largest youtuber is publicly playing an MMO and having a great time. Do you not see how great this is for MMORPGs which are sadly a dieing breed. With a game like Black Desert to get some much deserved hype from not just the MMO community is a blessing. As for watching people play video games what are you 40 and don't understand how that might be enjoying to watch?
  • CodyMaverickCodyMaverick Member CommonPosts: 2
Inbound comments saying it will only bring in "whiny 12-18 year olds". Well weren't all you old farts at one point young and enjoying MMOs. It is where it starts and how a community continues unless you desire MMOs die with your last breath.

So this thread is basically people bashing something because it doesn't personally appeal to them..?
Why so negative? This is great advertisement for MMOs which are slowly being replaced by things like CoD and Mobas for younger crowds.

You should be happy that this is happening, and stop bashing things just because you don't understand them.
I don't particularly enjoy pewdiepie, but that doesn't make him the antichrist, my god.

At least 12-18 year olds have an excuse to be immature and whiny. It's much sadder to see the 25+ year old whiners who refuse to let go of a hobby they no longer enjoy.
