And, good riddance Scarlet Blade -- from a marketing perspective sex may sell, but I think they missed the part of their course that mentioned it was for advertising, not the product itself.

Sex only sells to audiences that know what sex is.
Judging from the comments about sex and women by members of this genre, I'd say sex wouldn't sell at all to the majority of players.
Too bad about that cash shop giving Black Desert a dirty stain before it even leaves the factory floor.
As for Wildstar, hopefully the Steam launch invigorates it more as that game deserves to succeed far more than Trion's Rift ever did/does (ugh, talk about a cash grabbing WoW clone).
I never liked this game because I wasn't a fan of the art style or the actual gameplay, however it's sad to see mmo titles closing down, especially since no more are being made anymore.
You failed to mention that Neverwinter Cryptic removed Wards and Gems from the Tarmalune Store which has finally been the last straw for me! I am sooooo done with Cryptics bait and switch underhanded lying.
Cryptic thinks its customer's are stupid and will put up with anything... well I for one am a veteran of MMO's and know these tactics for what they are. Bullshnaz!
I am boycotting Neverwinter (one of my favorite games) until they put this to rights.
Does it not seem odd WS team did not wait for the Steam launch?I think they have no confidence in their own product.
The Division is imo a 30 dollar game,so not paying 60+ right now.Especially knowing that likely within a month we likely already hear of the next DLC.If i hear of the DLC within 2 months, that is simply too fast, too soon, which opens a whole can of worms and i'm not into fishing.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I played Scarlet Blade years ago and it wasn't actually all that bad.
I enjoyed the anime-steampunk atmosphere (yes the game had more to offer than pixel boobs) and playing a dedicated old school healer for dungeons was nice too.
At some point they actually made a male class and I rerolled...
Thing is after all they have to keep their costs low so none of the dialogues from quests were changed..
Meaning: Your guy was being hit on by women and men alike lol
Oh well I will keep this in good memories as one of the few junk games that actually provided some entertainment.
I tried scarlet blade on two separate occasions (around NA launch and once again much later to see state of game etc.) I could never get into it. Sex appeal as its sole draw is kinda cheap tactic-wise but it wasn't even that. For something heavily dependent on "looks", I use that term loosely, I found the visuals lacking and very drab and under polished.
Not to mention lack of content and real substance.
Also, it felt a bit awkward playing it with my fiancé behind me, made me feel almost guilty and a bit ashamed somehow lol. And it wasn't even worth it! At least if it was really striking visually, it'd be worth the embarrassment. Gimme some UE4 or CryEngine top tier boob action and I'd be happy to play that "RPG" (Really Pervy Game) and own my sicko-ness.
Because then I could just fall back on "look how good it looks though." Or if it actually had decent gameplay there'd always be the "these action combat controls are amazing!" excuse. Sigh* where's the SEA version of BnS when you need it.
Happy Birth Day Bill! I'm not surprised that SB is closing down. T and A will only take one so far. Its game play was too generic, and nothing really worth bothering with.

Been lurking for years. What exactly do you like? I know you are an expert game designer from your various opinions. That you had fun with some old games and everything new is below your great standards and crapped the bed.
You remind me of someone who fell down a flight of stairs several times who tries to talk. Crossed with a Caveman transported to our time trying to speak to people as soon as they arrive when I read your posts. Finally time to ignore.
Happy Birthday Bill, big fan. Never heard of Scarlet Blade, not even mentioned in general chat of any mmo I ever played or any gaming news sight. Must have been pretty bad.
RATS. I would have played this, if only for the novelty, had I known it existed. Hey @MikeB! There was a mmorpg featuring girls with big boobies and no heads up? WTH bro?
EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

It's not Mike's fault that you've missed it, "bro" Scarlet Blade resulted some of the longest threads here every time it was mentioned for any reason - true, most threads ended up debating marketing methods, the anime Queen's blade, and T&A.
Not missed much anyways, it was a totally generic, a-dime-a-dozen, mediocre game, with some good writing and tongue-in-cheek humour - which almost nobody cared about, who'd read when there's T&A, right? Too bad, a few of them were hilarious, like the crafting tutorial's end "so, this was your first? it may have been a bit rough, but trust me, the more you'll do the better it will be, who knows, you'll may even love it after a while" (btw. it was a lie, crafting remained a boring chore all the way )

Yep, medic was cool... "the only arcana with a healer's touch" As for the keeping the costs low part, according to a couple other sites, that's why the cancel happens too: there was some bugfixing to do, and they said, hell, we don't want to spend any more on the game, let's just pull the plug, it's cheaper.

Well at least W* lasted longer than SB. I have the feeling someone owes someone else some money.

Goodbye and good riddance Scarlet Blade

Not really.
It's just another bad game that dies. And rightfully so.
Nothing new there. Just happens to be a MMO.
