Crate Entertainment has finally released Grim Dawn, no small feat for an independent development studio that crowd-funded before crowd-funding was a big deal. With the game's release, fans of darkly themed ARPGs with deep levels of class customization and visceral combat tied to a great story have gotten at long last the

this one was definitely worth the wait, imagine if developers actually put out a product as decent as this one after a long long wait, I think people would start being able to trust Early Access and Kick Starting all over again..

I remember when Iron Lore went up in smoke and they formed Crate Entertainment. When they first started talking Grim Dawn, I backed it within minutes. That email is one of the few pieces of cyber-information that has traveled with me from PC to PC from home to home. :) Best investment I ever made, bar none.

    Bigger score than i expected.
I like it alot, but wouldn't rate it that high.

Good to see an indie-studio hitting a highscore though.

This is a one of a kind masterpiece arpg!
Any true fan of the genre must give this a go...
it is a very time consuming game whit a high emphasis on boss killings( just like in diablo 2 ) and theory building.
The story is very solid and without spoiling to much , the game has an abundance of really inspiring messages , delivered throughout the game.
Oh , and the game is hard as hell! ( in case you were afraid that it's going to be easy... it's not! ) One thing i would love to see in the near future is controller support ... i feel ( due to the overwhelming hours u will spend in front of the pc ) it might be more enjoyable from a couch or bed or .. )

If some developer could put the action into better use than just meaningless, mindless spam combat ,i could get interested but as is we should just rename ARPG's> SPAMrpg's.

No matter how anyone tries to twist it,you can play POE or Diablo and you have played them all, only thing that changes is a different skin and even the different skin does not look much different at all.

Camera...pfft ,why does every developer have to copy each other's bad game designs, locked camera in ANY game is enough to make me look the other way.

The designs are just soooooo limited, very basic, nothing to these games, basically a map and some mobs...go kill and leave brain at home.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Well, @Wizardry , that's why it's great for people who love ARPGs. Those who don't have all sorts of other options, right? All kinds for all sorts. ;)

That is very much the point of these games to many people. Relax, kill a bunch of shit, stop thinking about stuff for a while and just enjoy the ride. Unless of course, you're into theorycrafting and finding the greatest builds and all that. Can use as much of your brain as you wish to crunch those numbers, and whatever.

But these games are obviously not for you, in general. All those negatives you listed were pretty positive in regards to this genre, imo. I even prefer the locked camera in these games.

Quality game, unfortunately for me I can't get into games with top down/bird's eye views.  Immediate dis-qualifiers for me.

If it had gamepad controls and local co-op like diablo 3 then I would play it.
  • FonclFoncl Member UncommonPosts: 347
People have been telling me good things about the game, it's rank one on my wishlist right now. I'll play this after I've tried the new Path of Exile Ascendancy expansion which releases in two days.

It's interesting that it took two small developers, GGG and Crate, to bring a new golden age of ARPGs. I hope we don't get 13 more years of stagnation in the genre now, like what happened after Diablo II :]

Great game while leveling up - sadly flawed endgame grind for rare builds like heavy armor caster.
How can they screw up ARPG grind? I haven't played, but I'm curious what's wrong with endgame.

One huge minus imo, there are few hidden places and no traps. And they are super easy to find. From such game I expect a lot of surprises... but there are none...
