In what way is it not a theme park ? if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, its probably not a giraffe.
You guys kill me with your obsession with cliched labels that no two people define the same way.
Just a heads up: there are a lot more animals than just ducks and giraffes.

It is a themepark up to a point just like some other games the level where OW FFA PvP kicks in is higher (45) than most so the level spread is even up to a point. However at 45 the game does a drastic turn around and forces those that want PvE content to PvP to play it. So it basically becomes a OW FFA PvP with PvE content.
Now just because a level 45 appears to be close, the enchantment level begins to play a MAJOR role on who will win the fight. A level 45 will not be able to equip a +15 where a level 50 will so the odds of a level 45 winning are drastically reduced.
There is a difference between a developer adding depth to a game by placing information in places you need to search for and just not adding it to the game out of laziness. BDO is a fun game but don't kid yourself into thinking the lack of information in the game is an artistic choice. They just didn't take the time or spend the money to add real depth. The kind of depth that has you actively looking in game for information from npcs or hidden in the world to push you along. Instead you just boringly find things out through repetition. That is the opposite of depth.
Seems to me like I have another contender for leave it until a year after launch before you play. Let them iron the wrinkles out, put some more content in.
So, just read the whole article and it seems to me is that someone wants there hand held and can't be bothered to work out stuff for themselves.
That is what a lot of us like about BDO. We have to think. Plenty of games out there for the mindless zombies.
I really have to agree with you on that one. It seems as if the ugly world of Themepark players is sticking its head up. Most people who have never played a Sandbox style MMO are going to be so lost in a game like this it's sad but I got one statement to say to them "welcome to the world of MMOs before the handholding and leading you through era." MMOs didn't always just hold the players hand and lead them through we actually had to find our way by using the ole brain.
Just LoL, hard to find what to do or how to play it doesnt mean that a game is complex, if you are looking for a mature and a challenge MMO, just play The secret World, and guess what?, is a themepark.

But But But......... Theme Park...... And And........ Sandbox
Yeah I know. A lot of binary guys get confused when they mix it up and have some sandbox and themepark elements together... it's like a grown-up plate where the chicken touches the corn and the mash potatoes. Some just can't handle that

Well, I finally got to see the Koko bird quest near Vellia. I hadn't seen it in CB2 so I had no idea what the OP was talking about. All I can think of is that he saw a bugged version because what I got was a large, brightly colored running bird that runs a circuit along a road from the place where you get the quest... no long spawn timer nor 15 second window before despawning. No despawning at all as far as I could tell, just running. It took me all of 30 seconds to do the quest and catch it. And saw other people run it down several times when I was just travelling through the area. So,,,

I think BDO isn't a perfect game, and it has issues, but the biggest one is, without a doubt, how pampered and used to babysitting and handcarrying have the gamers become. This goes so far, that even gaming specialised sites write negative reviews about the game not having tutorials, walk-throughs, or online guides.
It's disheartening to see in what state the gaming industry is.
My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion.
A game where you're Economically competing directly with other players completely defeats it own purpose when it TELLS YOU exactly the best way to manage every system the first time around. Managing systems is a Skill-Tree in your own Brain that you gotta level up. It's an Art and for it to have any significance there has to room for some people to be bad at it instead being able to have a wiki page tell them the fastest way to not be bad
I agree the game is difficult to understand. I just hope the poster above me doesn't drive tonight.
While I am an advocate of the more the merrier, especially in an MMORPG. A good argument could be made that a game would be better off without this type of player. Sadly, there are a good many of them who have been raised and nurtured by the dumb down game play of games like WoW and its many clones.

How appropriately childish and amateurish. This is exactly the type of thing that a 12 year old would post. Bet you are so proud to post it too, aren't you? Thanks for proving my point. Now go back to your mindless MMOs son.

Sorry. I'll attempt to keep my insults more mature and professional in the future. In the meantime, I'll just laugh at you for taking the topic of MMORPG's so seriously.

You obviously don't know me well enough. If you did you would know that I am he who laughs the loudest. I derive nothing but pure entertainment from posters like you. And I sense the fun is just about to begin ...

Lol, alright. Do your worst honorable forum warrior. But seriously, don't. I think this little derail was plenty.

Just saying
If you are interested in making a MMO maybe visit my page to get a free open source engine.
That assumes you truly meant complex systems :-P
There is lots of features and mechanics but they are "fluff", there is no interdependence, consequence or just some "follow up" - there is no depth.
Still very cool tho ;-)
But
But.........
Theme Park......
And
And........
Sandbox
