I planned on going with Valkyrie but during the beta I tried out a few classes and the tamer was the class I enjoyed the most.
I gravitate toward pet classes so i was wondering if the tamer is locked into that black beast pet I see in all the videos? Also are you locked into wielding a sword?
Yes, they only get the one pet and while weapon models can look different, each class only has two weapon sets. The basic one and the Awakened one which adds another set of skills available at lvl 56 (not at launch for NA/EU). Tamer uses a short sword and a "flute" to smack things around, lvl 56 weapon is a bow staff.
I will probably pass on the game then. I just can't get into games where everything is chosen for you. I like the idea of taking a class and making it what I want it to be. The character editor looks great, to bad that's where choice seems to end.
That way I can decide to range or melee at will. Plus the Sorc has the spell Abyssal Flame, an insane powered up 250% x3 hits magic damage knockdown nuke that heals you and is just insane fun to open up combat with.

Ranger or tamer here. I didn't love the experience as a low level ranger. But everyone says that it gets much better as you level, so I may stick with it. My alt will be a tamer.
Edit: Switched to Sorc....so much more fun than the Ranger.

Can I change my mind?
I've now played Wiz, Ranger, Warrior and Sorceress to at least level 25... once the sorceress play style clicked for me, I'm finding it hard to play any of the others. It's a bit more complex to play than the others but holy crap, does she ever kick ass!
