Greetings All !
A few months back, I kept hearing comments here and there from other MMO players who are just outside of the group of people I game with daily... commenting on how they were all anxiously waiting for Black Desert to come out. I never really heard WHY.
So then, this morning, I watched the trailer.
And I'm still wondering.... why? Why the hype? I don't see anything really NEW. And as I look at the game's pages here on MMORPG (features, reviews, etc)... I'm still wondering what the buzz is/was all about. ????
Thanks!

There is a whole discussion there that helps answer the exact question you have asked.

"OMG this is like a breath of fresh air!"
"It's like playing vanilla [insert favorite commonly acceptable MMO]" (usually UO, DAOC, SWG, EQ, or Vanilla/BC WoW)
A month later everyone is salty and crying on the forums because it's not really that good and then we get another round of "Why WoW needs to die so we stop getting themepark clones" despite that the last 3 years have been a solid stream of PvP focused games with some survival/builder games mixed in. What's our last PvE themepark? FFARR 2013?
On the other hand if you're like me, and you enjoy sandbox games where you can log in and do whatever you want. I feel safe in saying this is the most legit sandbox experience of the last 10 years easy. I'm not sure what they plan for the future of the NA cash shop, but at this time it's the least p2w title I've played in a long time.
I won't compare it to all the other games even though I've played them all. I'll just say it's worth $30 bucks, and if you like it play it just like any other game. For me it's all about the gameplay, the themepark quests and voice overs are things I don't care about, and this has great gameplay.
I self identify as a monkey.

Edit: Players come here everyday whining for new games to play, then when one comes out they attempt to give themselves every reason possible to avoid playing it. Either you want to play games or you don't.
One could look at it as the combat is very fun and getting together with friends/guildmates to experience the combat together is part of the enjoyment.
You're going to be doing "something" in these games. Quests have devolved into a relay race where you aren't really doing anything but running here and running there.
One might as well enjoy actually "doing something".
