With two companies signing licensing agreements with Aventurine Studios, the original developers of Darkfall, many of our readers have wanted to see how it is the two new versions compare side-by-side. We spoke with representatives of Darkfall: New Dawn and Darkfall: Rise of Agon to find out more about each one's vision and what we can expect going forward.

To be honest the most common complaint within darkfall was the fact that Aventurine was behind it. Aventurine couldn't pull their heads out of their arses but if either of these two companies are thinking clearly then theres a chance they'll end up with an interesting title that people will play.

for some of us (like myself) Darkfall is one of the best MMOs and best games we have ever experienced, and yes we play many games over our life.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
Please do not respond to me
I do find it funny that the same people who complain about all the WoW clones and genre being limited to just that, Talk so much trash on games that are actually different.
It blows my mind, and is hilarious.
Make up your mind want something different? or more of the same?
Hit the nail on the head here. Darkfall may be a niche game to most people, but it's a niche game thats sorely lacking in the MMORPG genre. Mortal Online is somewhat similar but still vastly different and doesn't scratch that itch this game provided. I for one am STOKED this is coming back and will try both games.
You say the ship sailed.
Name one title due out in 2017 with this feature list??
Sway all day, butterfly flaps all the way!
Id say /delete Global chat tho
Area chat (with Chat bubbles), Trade Chat, and Regional Chat (As in Human lands, ork lands, ect) (But no Regional chat for the islands) maybe?
DnD will be more faction based with the racial wars and watchtowers, so less kill on sign mentality.
DnD will also have the title system and the limit of crafting professions, i think these 2 features are extremely important to reduce the grind and let roleplayers to play how they want, without these limits the game can only face the same redundant problem where everyone was able to craft everything and no need to trade with other players. I remember i maxed myself almost all the crafting masteries, never trade, eceonomy was a crap, no traders, no dedicated crafters.
The DnD additions need surely lots of work, but their vision is more genuine and reliable for player retention, discouraging meaningless pvp, encouraging same race freindship against arac clans and other racial enemies.
Another big difference is that DnD will have local banks, and no fast traveling while RoA will go into the opposite, risking to exarcebate further the zerg mentality.
Said that i hope both project will succed to please 2 different crowds of players, we are almost all bored of the same redundant themepark wow clones that plague the mmo market from a decade, so something refreshing like this is welcome with open hands.
Crowfall - LiF: MMO - Darkfall: New Dawn
Yes it was flawed, which is why it died at the end rather then got as big as it should have been. Both teams aim to fix those flaws and if they manage then I will be playing Darkfall for years to come.

The Repopulation, Chronicles of Elyria, Crowfall, Camelot Unchained. Not exactly the same, granted, but all of them have sandbox elements.

I really hope at least a couple of them manage to get launched in a solid state by then, but pretty much every single one of them is barely in early Alpha stages still.
As for Darkfall, I've never even played it. All I ever heard was the players themselves talking about how awful the company was and how poorly they managed the game.
So, maybe, if that was the biggest gripe with the game, then it still has a shot. I mean, there must be enough people wanting it if it's actually managing to get a 4th(?) release. It's sort of like SWG -- people keep dreaming about what it could have been.
Darkfall Unholy Wars had many of the same things as Darkfall Online, but it was garbage. How the character control feels, how the other features are implemented, that all makes the difference. I can whip out a game in a week that has fps combat and skills to learn, but that doesn't mean it will be fun.
Realistically there is no way in hell either of these games produces a lasting population to keep the servers up...just not happening.
Aventurine selling two licenses is not shocking...as they are greedy as hell. But that fact the Roa actually bought the license after knowing New Dawn already had it...well that's probably one of the dumbest investment moves I have ever seen, but coming from their team and knowing how those players were in game (their team is all old DF vets) it doesn't surprise me.
FYI few of the guys in RoA were exploiters and RMT players...they definitely will not be getting any money from me
0 faith in their team put together on a whim when AV waved the licensing carrot. its like an over hyped mod team of volunteers. who even fronted money for their license? Maybe AV took whatever scraps they could offer since something is better than nothing and they're sinking already.
DND then? well if their shit works then agon could become a living world or their changes could be total shit. just gotta wait..
Never played Darkfall, so I can't comment on your first statement.
Second statement is dead on though. Happens all the damn time, both here and elsewhere. New sandbox game coming out? "It sucks because it doesn't have exactly what I want! There's no content! I don't like the payment model! Blah blah blah, nitpick and whine."
One of the most egregious examples I've ever experienced was with Diablo 3. People bitched and moaned about how it was different from D2. So what did Blizzard do? Added in some systems from D2 with a bit of a twist, added a new class clearly inspired by one from D2, etc. The response from the same people? "You guys suck because you're just rehashing shit from D2! You have no originality! Blah blah blah..."
You have to be crazy to want to be a game developer (or a cop) these days. Gamers, and PC gamers especially, are some of the most fickle and difficult to please people in the world. And no, I don't necessarily excuse myself from that statement entirely.
AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!
