Later this week, Rob Lashley will begin his review in progress for The Division, Ubisoft’s brand new quasi-MMO shooter set in a near future dystopian New York City. We’ve covered the game a lot during previous betas, and today marks the official launch of Ubi’s first real attempt at a massive online offering. We’ve got a few thoughts on our first few hours...

Please don't be like all of the other useless drones that don't have the mental capacity to form an intelligent response.
I'm sure they will add the option to go back and customize your appearance again.. for a small fee.
This game will go down the same road as Titanfall, Evolve, Destiny etc. did. Extremely hyped with huge money behind it, though falling of the player's radar within just a few month. No PR can make up for light content and shallow, repetitive mechanics.
And stop calling this "MMO" already, just because it has a gear curve. There is NOTHING massive multiplayer about it.
There are literally hundred-thousands of people waiting in lobbies every night to play online chess, yet you wouldn't call it "MMO", right?
So a big hit then?
I didn't know Chess had a gear curve! Kidding. The definition of what is and what is not an "mmo" is - as we know - not fixed. Based on the definitions some people spew these days UO wouldn't be an mmo.
What we are seeing are "traditional mmo aspects" appearing in other types of games. Not just "shooters" either - which is what I would call The Division but also a number of strategy games. Does it bother me in any way: absolutely not. We should welcome that (some) games are becoming more "interesting/deep/complex". And - crucially - treat every game for what it is on its own merits.
Oh wait you can't you just watch gameplays. Kid do me a favor get a job and stop listening to what social media says. Not all is true. Get a job and go buy it 50 bucks is not expensive.
He did not go into the fact that you will mostly play the game in small groups.
Perhaps it is because i'm a grumpy old codger clinging to the better days when massive multiplayer was in fact "massive", but to me "mmo" still means that we have hundreds of players clashing into each other or share the same unphased game lie eg the capitol city.
To me massive multiplayer is not that by server technology theoretically all the players could connect to a game at the same time, while the actual gameplay consists of co-op. Hence my reference to online chess or poker as well.
Whether you like the game or not, its a good place to start if your on the fence about buying the game, or just want to find out more about it.
As for the 50 bucks thing, might want to make that 100 bucks, because if your not getting the season pass, you can't access the events that come with it, course you'd know that if you watched the Youtube gameplay videos, it gets talked about a lot.
Destiny is almost as popular as CoD on consoles, console websites talk about it all the time.
Also just like to add I'm not a fan Boy but the way you made that comment by this is not an mmo just made you look like a fool because if you followed youtube like you say u do. You would know there was 6.4 mill players who played the game actively in beta. Is there 6.4 now no 1 knows wait 1 month and then talk your shit
Read and comprehend my reference to online chess or online poker. Millions technically connect to the servers, yet your actual gameplay experience is limited to meet and play along with only a couple of players, which to me is not massive.
My first half hour on launch day consisted of attempting to interact with the environment in a safe area where others were so I could get a quest..... sounds like an MMO to me!!!

Ok. Solution: make them not bullet-spongey.
Try to be excellent to everyone you meet. You never know what someone else has seen or endured.
