SO many little things irks me wrong about this game.Example i hate hand holding and this game has light beams everywhere from nodes to destinations to waypoint path,it is nonsense and ruins immersion i like to have from my game.
Add in forced pvp then housing that has to be bid on which aims directly at rmt ,it is just so bad in too many areas of design. Then you have the node idea, the further you go the better the reward, very unrealistic idea, travel time should not determine value of goods. Then you have this fake npc doing actions for you at the node again cheap implementation and not very realistic.
Soloing, again, another predominantly single player game with a login screen, about the only player interaction will be pvp,so they had to put no effort at all into the mmo aspect of the game other than a login screen.Mark my words your spending is not done weather you thin k it is or not. They are going to release Korean content and sell it to you.Cash shop,it smells of future exploitation, what happens after you have spent countless weeks months to see the game change in a way that pisses you off, just dump all your hard work?
That's why i detest cash shops, they are so unpredictable and no where near the FLUFF people were defending just 2 years ago. Decent game on paper but imo fails too many areas of both MMO and rpg.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Enjoying it alot too. Game also gives me the feeling of early Lineage 2 when the world was yours to do as you wish.
Trade system in Black Desert reminds me of Lineage 2's old Manor System where you could farm those seeds and sell them in town at certain times of the day.

Suprisingly I found that hand holding in this game is hardly ever present, quests for example require a lot of exploring (or a guide) and you're the one that has to figure out most systems in this game but yeah the whole shining waypoint can become quite annoying

There are so many inaccurate things in your response that I'm not even sure where to begin.
1) Housing is not bid on - you use contribution points for all of the housing facilities, that you earn from doing quests, and you can take them back to put them elsewhere when you no longer need something. You may be thinking of the guild housing - but player housing is not bid on at all.
2) You do not have to use the options that guide you places - it does not do that unless you specifically set a path. You can also turn off some of the effects in options. Given how large the world is and how many people and things there are to find and interact with, I've never seen a game make it easier to find your way in an elegant way.
3) The node idea adds an incredible amount of strategy if you want to play the trading and crafting side of the game. It most certainly does make sense that goods would potentially be more valuable to someone in a far off place where they are more rare than a local place. Hiring workers to craft for you is far more realistic than you being a master craftsman in every single discipline.
4) As far as it being single player only, apparently you've not grouped with anyone or been in a guild. There are lots of features for playing with multiple people. I've rarely played by myself. At the same time, it is also very solo friendly - so it appeals to different groups.
There's more I could refute, but I'll stop there. I've played nearly every major MMO going back to the first EQ, and BDO is the first game in a very long time that surprised and excited me. It's an incredible polished, deep and entertaining game. It's not perfect - no MMO is, but if you are going to bash it, at least do it based on the reality of it.
I won't try it because I hate 'action combat',for me it is just an excuse for 'let's let everyone feel great'.More proof to this is no dedicated healer in game. You point out that you loved GW2,well I played that one and it is the reason I will not try this one.each to their own though.
So is there actual class customization? What class progression is there, if any? Are all classes pretty much built the same and using the same skills?
No, every class has it's own set of skills and playstyle. Tamer for example is really fast and even early on has already a playstyle that involves using specific skills while warrior is the usual tanky guy which focuses on pure melee combat until a bit later on. Ranger on the other hand uses a completely different mechanic. The bow is the main weapon and you actually have to point with the bow, having a system similiar to games like dragon's dogma.
All are unique (except witch which might have some similarities with wizard) and the progression is dependent on the user since there's a bunch of skills and you choose how you want to progress your character. Lots of people reach level 50 and haven't even unlocked 30% of the whole skill list
I'm having fun just taking my time and playing the conversation minigame to unlock quests and rewards from NPC's.
Edit: Also finding a class that you like to play is very important. I tried the Ranger first and thought I didn't like the combat very much. I dumped the Ranger and went to Sorc and I enjoy the game much more now.
I'm having fun just taking my time and playing the conversation minigame to unlock quests and rewards from NPC's.
Same here, it's always more rewarding exploring the world when you find NPC's that potentially can give you a new quest, knowledge or even unlock a special shop
This game did some very rare things on the mmorpg genre, it created a leaving, believable world with a lot of fun and meaningfull mechanics very well implemented and interdependent. Congrats BDO and thank you for the fun ( was loosing fate on the mmorpg genre untill now).

It isn't action combat. The very first check box in the game settings is "auto aim" which everyone will have turned on unless they want to be at a disadvantage in PvP.
Like OP I wasn't really hyped for the game and actually refunded it once (€100 package) and tried to refund upon the 2nd purchase (€30) because I wasn't too sure if any MMO could still grab my attention. I think I've been spoiled too much by Lineage II (pre-GoD) and ArcheAge (alpha period) to get hooked to any MMO.
That was till BDO was released and it really got me hooked to a MMO again!
By now I've just hit my 100 hour mark and am only level 22. I'm not grinding up to level 50+ like a lot of players do in the game. Instead I'm exploring, trading and crafting a lot. I've just fired all but 2 workers in Velia and they're working on a ferry at the moment (well, when I logon again - server down for maintenance) and in Heidel I've already made my 1st wagon and am at the point to expand more there for more crafting options. I have 'only' 56 energy but already a 'massive' 70 contribution points (massive for my level).
I am seriously very pleasantly surprised by BDO to be a MMO that's given me back the fun to play a MMO. But as OP stated, if you're one of those treadmill instance raiders, then BDO might not be for you...

Good point, you only need to aim, if not very precisely, for the first attack, after that the rest pretty much hit as long as your pointing somewhere in the general direction of the target.

...is there really such an option for auto aim..? Guess playing as wizard there's no real need for one

I think you see this as a typical MMO which it is not even close.
The 'game' is to control and control comes from resources, cities, towns and nodes.
It is different and not just another OW FFA PvP game since the real 'game' is large groups controlling the markets, production and processing of raw materials through planning including by force if necessary.
As solo player you can enjoy the world but the BIG and powerful guilds will be king of the hill since they can put more efforts through more people.
It is not for the loot end game crowd and certainly not for the weak because it requires a lot of effort.
i try and like this game , but everytime i log in more annoys .. So many npcs walking on the roads .. ridiculous ... Gold Spam is now heavy............ and the worst one that bothers me latley ..... so immersion breaking ....

I have been thinking about this and considering if I should just take the plunge to enjoy the world. I wanted to just farm may be breed horses and fish and level up but not engage in PvP. I was however hesitant since I wondered if and when guilds became powerful enough that they might take over even the lower areas driving a solo player like me out.
It's not that I don't want to group I love grouping games like FFXIV dungeons and I am huge Everquest fan but this game is different and I will be doing pretty much solo activities and I just am concerned about the future when these guilds dominate and do not allow others to even own small farms. What will happen too if Daum changes the level that PvP is enabled which they can do at any time since they have changed it from the Korean version.
Big guilds to dominate can be ruthless and I am aware that control of resources is a viable strategy and can be employed irregardless of the loss of gaming opportunities to a puny player like me.
This game targets a VERY SPECIFIC playerbase that has been without a game for a long time. With that said:
I am happy that you have your game. May it last you.
Personally, this game feels pitiful to me. Besides TERA, ESO and SWTOR(and even EQ2 or LoTR:O)...I have no need for another MMO. Of course, this type of MMO never interested me in the first place(Lineage, EvE, Ultima Online etc can go burn in hell for all I care).
Again, I am very happy you found your game and that the genre seems to be getting out of "cram EVERYTHING in the game" rut. We'll see how it goes
Different sides of the coin, the only MMORPGs in my opinion are those that force player interaction in all forms, and PVP has been a key tool in games such as Lineage 1/2, DAOC, Shadowbane, WOW, (Vanilla PVP servers), EVE, and more recently, ArcheAge.
Kill stealing, mob trains, blocking and other "griefing" mechanics also can play an important part in the overall "conflict" and interaction design.
There needs to be some controls in place, unrestricted murder sims do not create a believable world, and are not fun for a carebear like me.
"But Kyle, I don't like those things, I can't play the [game] the way I want to" you may say.
I guess if you are playing "games" its a fair complaint, but in virtual worlds (sandbox or themepark) you accept them as they are presented and learn to thrive and prosper despite the challenges player interactions provide.
In EVE my killboard stats are horribly skewed towards the negative, some corps in EVE wouldn't let me join because of them.
But I'm in control of vast sums of ISK, ships and misc items, a leader in my Null sec based PVE centric corporation responsible for helping to maintain moon mining and POS operations.
I also work to maintain a postitive relationship between our carebear corp of PVEers and the more PVP focused members of our alliance. (another form of interaction)
Doesn't sound fun? It's not, but it gives me a great sense of accomplishment to succeed in this oft times hostile environment.
I suspect BDO will offer similar game play opportunities, which is likely some are enjoying it so much.
Unless they have played AA there has been few titles recently that offer the opportunity to test one's mettle and carve out a niche in a more challenging environment.
It might not rival EVE, but likely will provide an enjoyable experience for those looking for more than just a game to have some "fun" with.

I don't think you will have to worry about owning a farm or being able to do the things outside of the high level resources. It is there where guild dominance will be a factor. How much a factor will determine the games outcome for longevity.
I put about 30 hours into BDO, and never had it hook me. I did try, but I've uninstalled it. It's probably just me however, since many that play it love it. I think after 20 years I may finally be done with the genre. Glad you found a game you like though.

I'm just so sick of listening to that stupid little girl berate the Giant at the Velia Warehouse.. or the group of idiots playing cards by the Auction House. The repeated dialogue in the game is probably worse than ESO. Oh and my god that Dwarf storage guy in Heidal has the creepiest voice acting ever...
