Been playing this game since CBT1, and even being a Serendia bug survivor, I haven't had this much fun in an MMO since StarWars Galaxies. I have two characters now over level 30 but for once leveling isn't my primary focus. I am having too much fun horse taming (Creature Handler for life!), hooking up nodes, crafting and just exploring. I haven't even started trying to figure out how to make a fishing boat, but that's another day
Only thing that bothers me of this post... WHO gives that knowledge quest? I though I've talked a lot already and gained quite some knowledge, but I must have missed this one
The +++gear is not like ever done before,THEIR own ideas?Only done since they been making games lol.
fish botting,we used to scoff at such a thing,so doing it their way is to do it WRONG?
Trade routes, already done in Silkroad, hence the title name the Silkroad, the old trade routes. Also done better in Silkroad.
developer controlled auction house, definitely not a good design, this is suppose to be a game world where the players create the economy, not some computer code.No trading ,again lmao terrible design. It all says we like to run a cash shop and not have any interference from rmt,we like to rip you off on our own.
Various prices from npc's?Already been there done that in FFXI,only difference is we kept it looking real, none of those lines all flying across the map like a light show. They are using George Jetson technology in a time of swords and horses lmao, wrong page much?
SO what exactly does this game do that is new or refreshing or even their way?I see nothing, even the pvp is typical same old.Questing is partially some demon you call who magically appears out of thin air to give you quests lol.I see that demon as their lazy approach to add further content without having to add anymore npc's or junction triggers.
All those horses cluttered at stables?Guess what ,you can walk right through them,so much for realism, semi solid models lol.
On paper a nice design, implemented like a second rate developer.

I have about 150h logged so far, and I'm completely sold on the game! It's not perfect, but there are SO many wonderful features in the game that more than outweigh the less-than-perfect areas. Lovely, lovely game. I too hope this is the beginning of an MMO renaissance. The Koreans have things to teach us westerners!
I tried the game out awhile ago. Didn't like it. Then all my friends bought it and have been raving about it. So I bought it and started playing. OMG I'm glad I did. I basically agree with everything in the article. One thing though. I had no idea you can regain energy by sleeping in a bed! I was always too busy fishing.

Easy now, every forum needs a pinch of every viewpoint otherwise it all becomes a big circlejerk.
Even though I disagree with Wizardrys posts many times it, i admire his contribution of sticking to his guns.
So yes - I am glad we have a poster like him here.
His viewpoint is that every game besides FFXI is garbage. Sorry, but I disagree. We have plenty of cynicism around here
It's so fresh and exciting that... it doesn't feel like it's done yet. It lacks a lot of polish. I've played a little bit and every time I come away, I keep thinking "I bet this game will be great with about 6 months of development." But it's B2P so there is zero motivation for Daum to do that. The game itself just feels like an early/mid-Alpha.

We got a pretty different MMO that's-what people are happy about. No endgame raids or dungeons either (a huge plus for me because I hate endgame dungeon and raid grinding!)! Honestly I don't think any MMO would satisfy you Wizard (no offense meant, just seems like you don't like any games from the posts I see).
SO what exactly does this game do that is new or refreshing or even their way?I see nothing, even the pvp is typical same old.
And yet there are people who are really enjoying themselves! Guess they didn't need to do things that have never been done before and just add things that people enjoyed but they did it in a familiar way.
Whelp! Glad we cleared that up!
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
So far I've spent $90 - 30 for base game and 60 for pearls. I just have one more alt to get to level 10 and I'll have my entire family (all 9 characters) in Veila. For now two of them will be mules until the new classes come out I'll just use their energy to pump up nodes. If I could only quit getting distracted.......but probably will side track into learning how to grow stuff tonight and get back to my noobie (hehe by a whole 5 levels) stuck in Olvia on another day.
Honestly about as lost and filled with wonder as I was the first month of SWG's launch.

Been playing this since release aswell, such a breath of fresh air... still level 18 with 60-70 hours ingame and haven't even explored half of the map o.O

I do have a couple of characters 30+ but I take breaks from leveling. I have a character fishing off Velia with his raft and have my workers there busily producing my "ferry"... which, BTW, is just a poorly translated name for a rowboat
I've been watching the real NPC ferry come and go from the Velia dock and today I decided to take a ride on it and see where it went. And so I found Ilya, a small island village where I can make an actual fishing boat. That'll be my goal for the near future.

Nobody has said you can't enjoy yourselves,i never said that once. LAso proven as FACT that people don't know wtf they are enjoying or what they want.Just look at every single game that keeps doing this, people roll in waves then game is a ghost town not long after. I have already noticed a HUGE difference in server capacity,it was redline all the time, now it hits red line on 1-2 servers then dies out rather quickly to near empty status.
I see more people AFK gaming than i see playing.SO if this is what people are calling "enjoying themselves"AFK gaming, yep nothing has changed. Naturally i don't have a crystal ball of numbers but i do have eyes and what i see is 90% maybe even higher are people just AFK gaming or running trade routes to get Silver.AFK fish botting and Silver with the occasional screen flash of a guild war, does not sound like people are having much fun to me.
Worst of all the game encourages no player interaction and for a online MMO that is a really bad design.

I like almost everything about BDO, the fishing, crafting, combat (which is awesome), Gfx, Weather, exploration, the map (yes! even the map!), the node management system, housing etc. If they keep up with new areas like it sound like they are, ill be hooked for a long time. That said I wish they would make the market like other games, I get the point of price setting but im a free market kind of guy. Also player to player trading would be good, but again, I get the idea behind not having it.
Sadly many mmorpg player bases have shown themselves incapable of handlign a free market type of marketplace / ah and will purposely price gouge and the like (buying up all of one item and jacking its price up massively). In a min/max setup you alleviate this while still allowing for some wiggle room of raising/lower prices and I think they allowed enough wiggle room that it should prevent not being able to play the market at all.

dunno where you're playing but most of the time I go online, all servers are overrun... they even had to extend server capacity few days back so if anything is that the game is doing extremely well for what was expected... totally well deserved tbh
"Speaking of going on, I’ve spent over 50 hours in Black Desert as of this writing and I’m still level 19, and I’ve just barely started doing quests and exploring Heidel – the game’s first big city."
Exactly the same for me Each time I want to lvl I just keep being distracted by some gathering, some funny quests etc etc. I tried the game without any expectations and now I'm hooked!
I have honestly gone days without even knowing what level I am, it just doesn't matter. For the first time in years, while playing an MMO, I don't feel rushed at all. At all. There's no rush to level, no rush to grab land, no rush to be at the front leading the way.
It is sooooo good. So unlike everything else we've had to play in recent years (except of course pre-1.2alpha AA). But on that note, I was worried that BDO would just be a prettier attempt at AA but not as complex. Boy was I wrong! So pleasantly surprised.
P.S. I'm only 19! Been playing since launch day (not EA). And to clarify BDO is prettier than AA and more complex.
I loved that treasure map quest and its follow up. Once I had the pieces together I expected to find something obvious just sitting there waiting for me as is usually the case in most MMOs. I won't spoil it for others but, no, that was not he case.
like the valkyrue treasure? the legendary chest of old tales bla bla the while city talks abt it... but whats inside? 10 pots and no knowledge..
BDO had my head spinning when I first entered its wonderful world. I kept getting distracted by things to do. I would repeatedly leave tasks half finished before starting on something else only to leave that task half finished and begin doing something else. Before I knew it I had a quest log full of half finished quests and running around touching everything like a kid left unsupervised in a toy store. I had to pull away for a while and gather my thoughts before I realized what I had before me and began to adjust. I haven't had a full nights sleep since I joined. BDO is a gem of a game.

Interesting that you purchased and are playing it. Currently all NA servers and channels are Overrun with the exception of a single channel on Orwen.
Are you playing on EU servers?

Yep it is a fun game, but the problem is it really has no endgame. So enjoy yourself for now, it won't last.
