Guys, this is silliness. I should be allowed to run ESO on my 486dx2 if I want to. It has a monitor and a keyboard it should count. For the same reason people should be allowed food and water and houses even though they don't choose to work.
Seriously, this guy is literally arguing for socialism in PC Games because some people are literally playing games on dinosaurs you couldn't sell for $10 on EBay....
LOL you guys are funny, there is no real reason for ZoS to take DX10 out of 32x client. I also laugh at people saying look at the specs, they should of read that. Well sorry folks the people locked out needed to be informed by ZoS that very soon the game will not support DX10. But nope lets blame all those people that played for over a year and supported the company and now it isn't ZoS problem for them not reading the specs better because after all they bought the game installed it and played. Yeah why should any company care about customers that use to play and support the game. How stupid of these people.
Nope, how stupid of ZoS for being a terrible company!
The issue for me is more that they remove openGL support for PC while keeping it for Mac. Linux users use openGL too. I know ESO doesn't support Linux, but Linux users have played ESO untill this last patch and now they cant anymore.
I guess there's plenty of smart people using Linux, so they'll probably find a way eventually, but why not keep openGL support for windows too, since you support it for Mac ? I know Linux is maybe 5% of ESO's players, so it's not much, but how much effort would it take to keep openGL for windows? I cant imagine it beeing that much since it's still supported for Mac.
You can lol all you want to be you are the one who made the dumb comparison between player numbers to a non MMO to ESO. ESO is played far more than 7 days. Just not on Steam. Steam is not the be all end all for gaming. Try playing Diablo on it. You and your posts. It is like you find posts on a daily basis about games you do not and will not ever play and stick your nose in and overturn threads just because you want to be recognized. Go play your games. smh
read my points very carefully.
1. if you dont want to compare number of players to an MMO then it comes off as if what you want to do is to hide the fact that MMOs playing is on a steep decline. even more so when a non-AAA, indie, small team, low budget, early access title is beating ESO in numbers
you are still missing the point. 7DTD is a steam game. ESO is mainly a non steam game and now also a console game. The steam version is low population. If you want to play 7DTD you have to get it on steam. Not the case with ESO.
If anything, looking at steam charts only shows how poor games are doing on steam outside of the obvious valve games and the remaining games in the top 5-10 listed on steam charts.

Well you could take the numbers from steam where how many sold on steam and how many now are playing it on steam. Then always apply it to where the game outside of steam would have the same issues happening there. Lot of people have left and after this last patch am sure a lot won't return even if they do replace video cards. Player's like to be treated with some respect and clearly ZoS doesn't really show any care about the customers. More so by them doing it over and over again from beta to present.
I remember the horror and gnashing of teeth when EQ launched and required a 3d card. Was one of the first major PC releases that wouldn't let you use software option in the graphics section.
Whether it was an early TNT or Voodoo2 (dear god I loved Diamond//Creative Voodoo2' 12mb's in SLI ) you had to have a 3d card.
Prophets preached how it would kill the game and would never take off due to actually having required a 3d card.
How'd that turn out ?
(really wish some PC games/developers would crush requirements for a new game with huge open world and graphics and have the longevity built in , the minimum requirements on some games I see my 4 year olds laptop is beyond , and my 7 year olds PC surpasses greatly)
I enjoy both low requirement games like Pillars and so on, but also want some games that would make a console scream in horror.
AMD did not release any new cards in 2000 - what you could buy were the cards released in 1999. (Imagine going 16 months today without releasing a new card). Consequently this - very popular card - became cheaper as the price fell. And in early 2001 when AMD released the first Radeon's released shops started to sell them off "cheaply". Although by todays standards it still wasn't a "cheap" upgrade.
AMD didn't release any new video cards in 1999 or 2001, either. AMD didn't buy ATI until 2006, which was their entry into the graphics market.
Yep I should have said ATI. Get so used to calling them AMD. It was indeed ATI that didn't release any new cards in 2000.

It bothered me because I use a laptop that has a ATI 4650. Being I am laid off (mass layoffs) after 14 years and trying to provide for a family( and back in college to boot), it may as well be a mountain to me. I know many here could care less, but not everyone can just throw down 1500 bucks on a whim. So while you are right that time marches on and so does tech, give us sods a break now and then and go easy on us. We may moan and vent that it sucks, but we mean you no harm by it. And please don't lump us all into the "entitled brats" section. Many of us are older gamers, who are military vets and hard working men and women who try to make things last and not blow our money. I was an ESO plus member so I wasn't a F2P /B2P guy. Loved the game...
P.S. Maybe it is time to check out Black Desert lol. Hope I can run it on my tired old rig.
The game is doing well and is one of the best in the genre at this point. They don't need to support DX9 anymore. You are talking about several generations of video hardware behind. Someone can purchase a relatively inexpensive card as an upgrade even for an older PC.

Great point, just that I have a laptop and not a PC, otherwise, I would do so. It's all good, life goes on.
edit* I think it is the laptop folks with older rigs who got hit the worst. For us it is not about a new card, but a new computer.
It sounds stupid but I had some kind of a issue like that on Diablo 3, on some certain maps game it self used to freeze. So I just de grade my AMD driver and it solved the problem. It was because of D3 was supporting old drivers. Just search a little bit you will find the best driver for your GPU. It might slightly increase your performance.
But hey, we all know TESO suffering some memory leak issue.
It's probably not as simple as buying a new GPU for some people. Many of those still using DX10 would have no PCIe slots.
I know they made PCI DX11 cards, but, can you still buy them, not sure.
What PC gamer doesn't have an PCIe slot? I could see your point 10 years ago but it's not 2006 anymore. If you are a gamer and don't have a PCIe slot on your motherboard you should probably consider getting a new hobby.

Yeah, that's a hard spot to be in and it sucks. I've been there.
One thing to consider is getting a PS4 to game on. You can get one for $350 and play ESO on it. I'm not sure how or if licenses transfer over, but it is an option that isn't as expensive as forking out for a new PC gaming rig.
Nope they do not allow transfers. They only did it before game was ready for consoles.
1. You overpay it by 2-3 times for performance it offers 2. You can throw it away after 3-4 years while i can just plug in new GPU and move on.
Indeed, though I bought it used a year or so ago on ebay for cheap. I buy used, a smart way to save money, generally. And since I play while chilling in my ez chair in the living room, a desktop is not where I want to go. That said, I agree with you in principle.
The Thieves Guild patch also ended the ability to play if you had a pre-DX10 set up.
Now it doesn't affect me (and I'm successfully running the newer 64bit option), but there's a growing list of people who have been playing this game for years and now find themselves suddenly frozen out.
Needless to say there is a mounting level of dissatisfaction, (that's the calmer description), as people find out this is the cause of their game instantly crashing when trying to play after yesterday's Thieves patch.
Now not everyone has money available to suddenly upgrade their pc, so it appears Zenimax have successfully dropped a portion of their player-base overnight.
Irrespective of personal opinions on whether everyone should or should not have a DX10 capable rig, to alienate some long standing players, literally overnight, is an extremely poor decision making process.
Man, well I agree, ESO shouldn't of did that. Dirext x 10 is free, microsoft gave every one a free upgrade to windows 10. I never liked ESO, or anything to do with it, so I am not surprised. They are a terrible company and made a garbage console game. Took them over 2 years to come out with the thieves guild they said would be soon, when they launched.
Not sure about TG but I do know the other DLC's were all ready to go before the B2P started. Or they at least keep telling us that back then. Wish I would have saved those threads. Right now they should be all caught up on DLC's and now have to start making new DLC's. Going to be interesting how long it takes them! I know it won't stop being made if they started working on fixing major bugs, because that never bothered them from beta to present. :-D
Allowing DX9 or not has nothing to do with optimization. Games can run great on any version, or run like shit on any version. Either the developers knows how to optimize, or they don't. And "new graphic features" isn't optimizing. It's introducing even more stuff that most players will never use and even less actually notice but will lower FPS across the board.

I think it's silly to limit your playerbase due to not having the latest graphics card/machine. ESO loss here.
They arent asking people to have the latest graphics card/machine, just one that is somewhat below standard for today. Check out what they require to run the game........its no where near the latest equipment.
Also, people need to understand playing PC games over the years requires you to invest some money to stay somewhat up to date if you want to keep playing things that are coming out.
Stop expecting Devlopers to limit their games and the graphics they can use just because people dont want to invest in upgrading.
Thats like wanting to play XBOX One or PS4 exclusive games, but being mad because they dont keep making the games for XBOX 360 or PS3. Those older systems and their hardware cannot handle what the devs want to do, or want the game to look like.
Even my machine is due for an upgrade because it is starting to slightly fall behind. But I am not mad at the new games coming out, its not their fault. Its on me to invest if I want to enjoy the latest and keep up with the new systems/tech that the Devs are playing with.
Dont want to upgrade? Fine, but realize you will be pigeonholed into the games that are ok with working with less graphics or older tech.

Well said, but it doesn't apply to this case I'm afraid.
See, this isn't some brand new game we are talking about. This is about an expansion to a game. You bought a game that your Directx10 card could run. Suddenly, the developer adds content and removes support for your card.
