Nice column. Upcoming special dungeon is a great news.
I'm in similar state, it's not among my main games but I used to hop in once in a while for some play.
Which game will be the subject of the next two columns?
I still come back to DDO from time to time, and now is the time again. Started playing last month, took a break (BDO CBT1 & L2Classic) and returning again now. I still think that DDO is one of those 'forgotten gems'.
As for the tomes... I don't think they'll be overly much used. From what I've seen during the times played (and now playing again), there are a lot of DnD vets in the game that want to keep their characters 'pure'. So not overly sure if they'll but those.
Sadly though, the adventure packs are a bit expensive, and unlike LotRo, you won't get Turbine Points so easily, so you either have to grind a LOT or just spend some money from time to time for new adventures (which I think is totally worth it).
...At the end of last week’s piece I mentioned I would talk about how it
appears that Wizards of the Coast has marginalized DDO over the past few
years. Since the release of Neverwinter and the launch of the 5th
edition pen and paper ruleset WotC has released what they term “seasons”
over their different media. These seasons have books, miniatures from
WizKids and Gale Force Nine, pen and paper supplements, Sword Coast
Legends, and even Neverwinter releases all tied together. However it
doesn’t appear that Turbine has really been included in this development
cycle and marketing campaign. I reached out to Turbine to ask them
about this perceived slight and they were unable to comment on the
topic. ...
I did link you to the legal wrangling with regard to WotC / ATARI / Turbinein the forum after part 1. I think you will find some answers in there.
No, D&D stands the test of time. DDO is showing it's age. I'm sorry but computer games will always show their age because nothing can compete with human imagination.
If they made a server and module 2. Then there would be and awsome game to come back to. Before AH (you had to go to House D and go to vendor and see what people sold there) and before lvl cap was raised. When seeing someone have an vorpal +1 wepaon was like a god.
I am not gonna get into the many details... those can be found elsewhere, but this game fn sucks bad! Real bad. Main issues are the horribly terrible lag. This lag has been present since the start. It's so bad in fact that when you load the server with something like and and boss thereat least a 50% chance of a client crash... in which case your time will be wasted as you will receive no compensation or xp for the instance you were in. Secondly the GM's in this game are utter trash. They are terrible at customer service and tbh I think they are the only ones left playing this garbage game. Honestly don't even bother with the huge down load because you will be seriously disappointed.
That's your lag problem. I've been playing since the beginning, and have upgraded my computer several times in that 10 years, so different machines. Only lag I see is when my son is DLing something. And to the other guy complaining about power creep - the +1 vorpal god thing. Before vorpals, flaming swords were the god like weapon. There are still carrots to get, they've just changed. It's necessary, or what will you do once you get your +1 vorpal?
