As part of the AMA with ArenaNet's Mike O'Brien, it was revealed that the Guild Wars 2 Living Story should be making a return in time for the July update. In addition, the team will be focusing on the development of an expansion without sacrificing regular, current game updates as well.

January 2015 was the very last Living Story chapter. Oh, and its release was after a 2 month "holiday break" from which they did the generic Wintersday event.
The recent raid wing doesn't count as "new content", either. It is content earmarked in their expansion features as something included with said expansion. They're pulling a Blizzard by earmarking content for an expansion, yet releasing it in trickles after the initial expansion release date. This irks me in all the wrong ways.
I adored Season #1 of the Living Story. I absolutely loved it. Then came the long break. And then we finally get Season #2 to be "based on feedback, more instanced story stuff and less open world event tie-ins". What rubbish Season #2 was. Story was okay, but without the huge event tie-ins it just wasn't the same.
And now here we are with Season #3 being a few months out. Mind that this is going to be 8 months after HoT released (9 if it ends up being the very tail end of July). A.Net has already announced that they've nixed the 2-week update schedule for Living Story, so expecting slower update than before is now a thing. 'Raids' and their wings might take up a few of the update tie-ins, so there's a slap to it as well.
July...
FREAKIN' JULY?!...
Sigh. Over 3 years and they've gone from super awesome to bleh on quite a few things. Even us super-fans are getting sick and tired of it.
P.S. Where on Earth is the update to supposedly save WvW? That place has so many cobwebs right now. They should have stepped up on that almost immediately. At this rate, both Crowfall and CU will have released and taken whoever remains from that game mode into their games.
dungeon nerf killed it for me ...I'm not going to farm Silver waste 24/24 like those no lifers
but hey you guys really want to know why things are like that? players asked for it, they wanted a expansion, crying for one tehy wanted, so what arena net did? stoped the living world, gather all the content they would launch for living world and launched as expansion, with some new trinkets.
gw2 is not what is was, and we can all give the player base credit for it, they stupidly asked for a expansion, and they get what they asked for
