The game isn't broken and it has lots of hope. It does have it's problems such as a crappy chat box, but it is a better game than many others I have tried over the years. If you want a game where you level easily and has lots of quests and hand holding, this isn't it. If you want a game where you can dominate in 1v1 pvp, then this isn't the game for you. If you don't mind grinding out levels, don't need hand holding, and want large scale PvP, then this might be just what you need.
So far I am enjoying my time on RF Online. It is very PvP oriented though. If you like that then you should have alot of fun.

To me this game was a waste of my time and money.
My biggest complaint is the grind. I cannot stand games where 90% of anything you do seem like a constant grind. I also found the community to be varied at best. Some nice people, but mostly people who wouldn't answer questions or didn't speak english.
Looks like I'll be playing free Anarchy Online, while I wait for Pirates of the Burning Sea and Spellborn.
Eurogames gave RF online a 4 out of 10. I agree with that grade.

True, Eurogamer did not give the game any props. But then again, some of the complaints in the review aren't even valid. There were a number of issues he had that were fixable on the client end. It's as if he played the game for a couple of hours and stopped.
Furthermore, it only shows that people who play this game either love it or hate it. GamePro on the other hand gave it a very good review with a 4 out of 5. I agree more with this review because he still discusses the game's shortcomings but has apparently taken the time to play the game.

I agree with what you guys say as well.
If you truly enjoy large scales battles, and if you are willing to invest lots and lots of hours grinding you might enjoy the game. I am more of a casual gamer, and I don't have the time, nor do I enjoy, days of grinding before I can actually 'start' playing.
As far as the community goes I am not csre if was just unlucky, but I didn't meet many nice/helpful players at all.
Iam gonna try it when a trial comes out if it comes out a trial=/Iknow i love large scale battle iused to pvp alot in swg before the nge. how is the combat style is it the press and watch thing like almost mmo has?
This game is weird to me. I love it and I hate it. I hate the grind as it is blatant and until you grind up to 25+ it is pretty dull though looks nice, as far as characters and hq etc go. After I got over my wow factor I found that even though I will likely stick it out since I did pay 50 bucks for it. I want to give it a chance but if it doesn't get a little meat to the game then I likely will cancel. I mean the only reward really for cw is to afk mine and I have issues to pay 15 bucks a month to not play if my race wins cw.
I dislike this game - its broken, controls are horrible, can't remap key's, word wrapping arbitrarily breaks up words and rewraps it, point and click movement is horrible -- even though you can use wasd it still has its faults, HUGELY repetitive and small newb zone.
When I said i had "time", i meant virtual time, i got no RL "time" for you.
I LOVE THE GAME!! I am a hardcore FPS player so I have never tried an MMORPG game. What I have noticed is everyone is worried about XP. This game is NOT about XP. Grinding, yes there is grinding but that is caused by trying to level to fast. There are other ascepts you have to worry about that coincide with XP such as your PT. If you get powered leveled to fast in this game your PT's are totally wacked out.
So give the game a chance.
Trondor (aka: Kyra in game name)
What kind games is this ?MOMORPG or FPS
tbms, It's MMORPG. If you or anyone is planning on playing the game look me up. In game name is "Kyra". We play on the "Spirit Server" Guild name "AkoRonin".
See you there.
ME TOO!! you said it exactly righ!! I LOVE RFO and it does finally feel like ai found home after the soe /LA SWG death via NGE ... If you don't like PvP ... propably stay away from RFO..
If you want to be part a of a 3 way Race War to be apart of something more then ...gaining your personal uber L33T wealth...then you will love RFO
if your a power grinder... L33tist that has to be Uber and find short cuts..well you will get fustrated with RFO ...cause here its all pretty fair and equal. THere are no Elite ppl .. just different levels tha all can achieve .
AND for you ppl whinning about Grinding... lol ... I think your playing the wrong Genre... NAME a MMORPG that dosn't have grinding. Infact what I really like is if you wanna group you can.. if you wanna solo .... you can just fine.
and if you really don't wanna PvP ... well... that like joing the army and saying you don't wanna hurt anyone.... lol
If you have troble Finding nice ppl... COME TO SPIRIT SERVER!!!!!!!! lots of nice ppl here

Novelty of the massive PvP wears off quickly and that is the only developed part in game. Be prepared to constantly play catch up to higher levels by grinding. PTs are very addictive trying to max out. I found the "grind" to be a bit bland. Since I had to grind levels and right after that grind PTs I wish there was more done to it. The CW being meaningless after awhile, people stopped showing up till they were gonna come back end game levels. I don't imagine many playing the same Chip Wars for a year three times a day. Having the mine doesn't matter anyways. So if you are really into PvP you gotta be patient with this one.
<---would not recommend this game
= PT grind hell
=PvP a little silly tbh, when 5 people cant kill 1 person (all at equal lvl), that means its silly (yes you do get acc tanks stood outside solus just laughing at any attempt to kill them)
and that sums up ALL the content in this game
I'd like to mention that the large daily battles, aka Chip Wars, are at preset times. These may be awkward for you, depending on your time zone, I know that they are for me.
Grind. Grind it's a game with grind stacked on top of grind. You grind out your levels, then grind out your skill points (don't fall too far behind on this, or you'll be gimped and an easy kill/low dps/needing reroll). If that isn't enough grinding, some people have double the grind (MAU skillpoints) and others just the normal.
Balance is so far out of whack that all I can say is Acc. The acc race is far inferior inferior to the other two races, due to lack of a 4th profession. Many more balance issues, but my time for the moment is up.
Perhaps the worst money I've ever spent on any game in my life, and I've bought some real stinkers. I recommend it if you enjoy doing repetitive tasks such as bean counting, otherwise it's a must-avoid.
EVE Online. Unique level system is all time based (like downloading) with no grinding.
On topic: From responses here, sounds like a FFXI grind horror in the beginning to build up to a more large scale version of Guild Wars pvp. How does pvp work? Is it instanced like Guild Wars or is it all more "Free roaming" like, i suppose, SWG? What are some of the in-game mechanics or physics of the battle system? For example, compare similarities if any, with FFXI, Guild Wars, or SWG.
EDIT: Also, what is the difference between grinding out levels and grinding out SP in the way you go about it?
