I appreciate the info otherwise I probably wouldn't have known. Looks like a cool book on Warcraft but I'm more of a comic book reader :-)
It's a book based on the lore of the most popular mmo in the history of mmos. I'm pretty sure it's newsworthy.
Much like Star Wars, the best of Warcraft's lore has come from sources other than the creator. Meanwhile, most from the creator has been a steady stream of bullshit.
AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!
We are born of the blood. Made men by the blood. Undone by the blood. Our eyes are yet to open. FEAR THE OLD BLOOD.

They've always done books.. there's about 40 of them from graphic novels to novels to compendiums. I don't mind a hating troll, you guys crack me up.. but you need to know what you're talking about if you want to ruffle some feathers.
I'm willing to bet the movie is going to make the subscriber numbers rocket again. That'll expand the lifespan even more... and if they ever go FTP.. or BTP.. they'll get bombarded with players. Possibly more than it's highest numbers. WoW is no where near the end of it's lifespan.
When a game is pulling in a very rough $75 million A MONTH at it's lowest ever subscriber numbers.. haters ain't got a chance.
Man, I could use that kind of money...
75 million by subscribers only. Yea... Never. Ever.
You must be one of those people believing in this "lets do some marketing for our game and throw out ridiculously high numbers" method of game companies. Facebook has so many unknown low population wannabe high quality MMORPG's doing just that for years "we have 100 million players online right now, come play too!" and this is not limited to facebook games only. Blizzard is doing the same for years now. I always wondered how naive people can be to believe that crap. WoW still has high numbers of players, but not the offcial WoW, its the top free servers that currently have a crazy high amount of players the paid one once had many years ago.
Last official numbers we got were about 5 months ago. They reported 5.5 million subscribers. Subscribers, not players.
So, 5 months ago they were getting $82.5 million a month in revenue from subscribers alone.
That's a fact. You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. I suggest you have a look at some of Blizzards quarterly revenue reports.. you'll be embarrassed to learn that they pull in around $1 Billion every three months. Around 20% of that is pure profit, which is about $66.6 Million profit a month. PURE profit. Money.. in.. the.. bank. That's across all their games though, not just WoW.
You accuse me of having no idea even though you can only repeat what has been announced to feed the masses. Indeed, very credible.
Actually, I added more to my post.
You are hilarious, by the way. You doubt the reported numbers because.. what? You just feel like it? Even when they always reported the losses? HILARIOUS!
I have the same reasons to doubt the numbers as you have to believe in them. The difference is, I take a few more things into account.
Its a company that sells a product with a popular name, therefor it needs very good marketing. Good marketing contains marketing strategics. A part of marketing strategics are marketing lies. In this case releasing high numbers (no matter if its profit, loss, or subscriptions) is an obvious one. Why? Because its not possible for an outsider to proof any of these numbers. The result of releasing such disinformation goes far beyond (re)attracting the actual target group.
And by the way, I would really appreciate if you brought up some decent arguments with a stable base, instead of leading the discussion into the absurd with small-minded comments. Thanks in advance.
All I read in this discussion are allegations, assumptions and accusations. Nothing with enough weight to proof me wrong.
There isn't much else to say other than small minded comments. You're choosing to ignore facts and are therefore a lost cause. I'm sorry that you didn't know how much money WoW actually makes but continuing to deny it once you've been told is childish and ignorant. I understand that you're talking about things like when RuneScape gave a massively high registered accounts number for marketing purposes; registered doesn't mean active, but that's not what Blizzard has done here. The thing is, Blizzard didn't release those numbers for marketing, they were exposed from legal documents. Right, you've been told the situation.. you're not some ultra intelligent person who knows something everybody else doesn't. Quite the opposite.
I'd imagine they stopped reporting the numbers because they had to report the losses. Even though the subscriber numbers were still massive compared to other games, the losses were what everyone was paying attention to. Asian players generally pay more to play WoW btw.
