Former CM - 'The Customer Gets Lost in the Games Industry' - General News

Former TERA community manager 'Tonka' is starting a new video series about the general games industry and community management in particular. In his first, he qualifies his "rant" (his words) about community management that this is not directed at En Masse, publishers of TERA, but at all game companies.

I have no idea how to pay for games anymore, all the uncertainty has been a huge turnoff, I play only for absolutely free as a result.

I think unitentionally over the past 3 or so years I have only played one game with in game transactions that I was aware of. I guess I just play different games

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

    Doh, watched it almost full...

Just another guy sitting on his high horse calling what other people like "piece of shit".

I guess ranting never gets old, but it is still stupid as always...

Good video. He forgot the other questions companies should be asking up front. "What are we going to do about gold sellers and botters?" And not taking the easy way out with a no trade policy.

    Okay,

I don't think it is a bad idea for a youtube series.
But it stayed at very surface level throughout the whole, digging deeper with some hand on problems would do a lot.
For an example, using "Backstreet Boys" as an example is very simple and unimpactfull to do,
if he was to switch an use "Lorde" as the example instead, it would create a more eye opener moment.

4 minutes into the video, this doesn't look like a rant, nor does it seem to be about CM'ing, but rather a basic discussion about what a company is?

I'll never get these guys. The industry is making more money than ever, why change? To please a small group of fickle hipsters?

If you want to make a splash, start a company, apply the principles you espouse and eat their lunch, hopefully. Other than that, you are giving advise about a topic that THEY understand much better than you. It just makes you look like a "Know-it-all".

Full disclosure, I agree with many of your points but that doesn't make them sound business decisions.
