I logged on for the last time last month. There is virtually no one below level 50. They gave levels away on the monster missions, then nerfed them. Don't bother dude honestly.

Are you kidding? No one is under level 50 after  the monster missions gave insane experience, they nerfed them so you can't do the same.

I played EQ for 5 years and believe there will never be another to match its greatness...but I would defiantly suggest finding another game.  The few players there are under 50 aren't just starting, they're vets playing alt's.  Twinked, and almost always being power leveled or on a guild alt. outing.  The days of running into a group of folks your same level, and all of you progressing and exploring together till end-game are over.  Even if you could find folks to play with consistently, catching up is impossible.  With trying to find a group, and the slow leveling, they'll be shutting down the servers by the time you get to the point where you can seriously raid and group.

Over the past week, I've started playing a new character. I got to level 10 in the tutorial and then moved to Kurn's Tower, where I got into a group. I tried Najena (a current "hot spot") after that, but there was noone there, and when people showed up,  they were just people getting PL'd, so I called in a favor and got a little PLing myself. Got back on track in Iceclad, where there were a fluctuating number of people (maybe 6-10) in the 25-30ish level range.

It's not impossible to start new. It's not easy either. Sometimes there are people, sometimes there aren't. I don't play at the same time every day, and sometimes I play at really "off" times, so that may account for some of my mixed luck... But, in general, I'd say that there are very few low level people around, most of which are alts or visitors from other servers. I don't think I'd encourage anyone to start playing from scratch, unless maybe you already have friends playing that don't mind helping you out.

If you're just looking for a way to level up, you might have *some* luck in the hot spots, from the 2/21 Patch Message:

    - The time has come to once again update the "Hot Zones" throughout Norrath. The previous zones have been reverted to their former states and the following zones are now a great place to go for experience and fun:
    Level 20: Najena
    Level 25: Iceclad Ocean
    Level 30: Rathe Mountains
    Level 35: Frontier Mountains
    Level 40: Gulf of Gunthak
    Level 45: Velketor's Labrynth
    Level 50: Fungus Grove
    Level 55: Old Sebilis
    Level 60: Cazic Thule

    Or not. YMMV.

There are plenty of low level characters. The problem is, they are ALTs. They are Taders in Bazaar, or alternate toons destined to be PL'd to a sutable level. The great thing is, you can luck out, and group with a guy boxing a 70 cleric that group heals your party every 20 sec, making you invincible to trains of mobs 5 levels higher than your tank. You'd find it very easy to level up in an instance like this.

I boxed my 70 Shaman and melee tanked the entire Unrest Basement with a twinked level 20 Enchanter. The guy that grouped with me was pretty happy, he dinged 5 times in 2 hours.

Don't forget, we can also shroud down to levels also. I have been shrouding to a level 15 bear to work shroud progression and unlock the werewolf shroud. I head of a guy that shrouds down to get LDoN groups so he can score points for spells and whatnot. The new expansions make grouping mixed levels doable, and fun.

I decided to check out Stromm, as often recommended here, and the tutorial was PACKED-- 50 people, no joke, compared to the 20 on Xegony just before that.

Unfortunately, the character I logged in was level 6 from when the server first opened (no low level deletion on Stromm, since it wasn't merged), and I didn't have my starter weapon anymore, so I couldn't do the charm quest (have to give Absor your starter weapon to continue, it appears) I was about half way through the "collect and combine" newbie armor quests though... so if I go back there, I might just do that.  Or I might take a brand spanking new character and investigate how it is after the tutorial... after the double XP weekend is over.

As far as guilds... There do seem to be some guilds taking new players around. Sometimes they post on the Newbie board here, and if you have Dragons of Norrath, you can check the guild boards in Guild Lobby. *shrug*

There will always be ways to start a new toon, Hot spots and MM help (even after exp neff), alot of people play alts and if you are lucky you can get a PL here and there. Best bet however is to play a solo friendly class this way if you cant find a group at some point you always have plan B. Necro, Bst, Shammy, Druid, Wiz, Mage, Are all good options for soloing. Shammy is the best of both worlds as you will get groups more offen (Healer) Necros makes the best soloers but have problems sometimes getting groups are higher lvls.
