imagen-Space Closes After 21 Years

Sword Coast Legends developer n-Space has closed after twenty-one years of business. The news was broken by Ben Leary, posted here in its entirety.

UPDATE: We have received word from Sword Coast Legends publisher, Digital Extremes:

"We are deeply saddened by the closing of n-Space.  Staying alive as a mid-sized independent developer in the games industry is no small feat.  Their passion for creating games never faltered and their dedicated team has ended on the high note of completing the console version of Sword Coast Legends.  We are working hard with them to realize as much as we can for their team during this difficult time and encourage players to keep an eye on the official website for more details on the launch of Sword Coast Legends on Xbox One and PlayStation 4."

Always sad to hear when a developer shuts down. Hope they all manage to move onward smoothly.

Terrible. This never seems to end. Next we will here about Daybreak or whatever, shutting the doors.

Always sad to see people lose their jobs, but the company wasn't going to get any more money from me. Not after their flat out misdirection and lying tactics of promoting Sword Coast Legends. Choices have consequences.

Sorry to see this but if we're being honest Sword Coast was a bit of a bait-and-switch. It just wasn't anything that was promised.

I'd feel more sorry for them if they gave me my money back. :)

Deserved it. Pulled a bait and switch with SCL.

    Good riddance.

Wow, that is a very immature take on the topic.  Obviously you have never been a part of team that has built something.

More to the point, companies make mistakes much like people, it happens.  I don't like hearing about companies going out of business.  21 years is a long time to hold it together, especially in the relatively new arena of on-line gaming development.  Best wishes to all the people looking for work.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

Wah, wah , wah , wah.

Going on 20 years at a small business msyself that is thriving and we get great reviews from 99% of our clients because , well , we don't string them along , and do a bait and switch.

The company has their reputation raked across the coals for pushing and marketing a certain type of game , then releasing another. People chose to do that , not a machine. Those people aren't 21 year vets in "online games" , here's the list.

NSpace's CEO did one of the most immature rants I've seen back around launch because of people getting refunds through Steam , so yes , the company deserves to reap what it sowed.

The feel good , touchy feely shit where you are supposed to feel sorry for a company that shuts down because they make stupid decisions is so ridiculous.

    Again , good riddance.

Now that they are out of the way , maybe an actual good D&D game can be made by a decent dev company.

I'd like to thank O'Leary for his transparency but it is nice they kept this whole thing a secret  ..ummmm slight contradiction i would say.
Also not knowing all the particulars means you can't make any kiss ass compliments because promised severance packages would help a lot in keeping people quiet.

Also how can you be working hard at keeping it from happening if it is all a secret?
The whole thing smells of contradictions, like nothing of the truth has been said.

This game was such a disappointment. My wife and I convinced two friends to buy in with us when they were selling the 5 pack, so we could all play together. the game was nothing like the videos and just terrible now I have not played since a little after launch so maybe it changed.

Did they ever release that Rage of Demons module?

If that's the case, it probably will not be coming out now.
Heck they probably didn't even have it close to finished anyways.

It sucks that they went down. With that said, why are people crying about refunds from a fully finished single player game? Its not like you will have half a game if you dont play online. Its only 20 bucks so im still going to get it on PS4. Maybe they out it as a PS+ or discounted for obvious reasons, but i think its worth the price if you get the full game offline. The company going down only means there may never be a sequel. Nothing else. If the game was unfinished when the company shut down then it would be canceled, not released incomplete.

Whether the game is good or not that is different. I want to play it.

Lol you are not getting it on PS4 , it requires login servers from N-Space to play...........rofl , it's not even finished yet for the console if I'm not mistaken.

Edit: Maybe you can still buy it for the PS4 , Digital Extremes says they will take it over and publish it for the console.

Whether it's worth a crap or not who knows , but CP3 is dead , and that was what was going to actually fix the game.

I had no clue that Sword Coast Legends was that badly received.  In fact, I was looking forward to picking it up on the next steam sale.

So, it basically wasn't anything like BG1&2 or the Icewind Dale games at all?

i dont know what is CP3, but i do like Digital Extremes (Warframe and Dark Sector) so i hope they can improve whatever flaws this game may have.

It's probably worth it on a sale. The single player felt flat, but I don't think it was ever really marketed on the single player - it was more about the DM tools and level creation. The systems they described in the lead-up to launch weren't really there.

Whereas Neverwinter Nights had a pretty robust DM tools, and a lot of modding ability, SCL kind of fell flat there, too. The DM tools are simple to use and make things with, but they're not flexible.

Ultimately it felt more like Diablo than Baldur's Gate, to me.

Oh wow.  Ok, thanks for the info.  I'll admit I wasn't paying much attention to this title so this helps me understand what happened.

I'll see how cheap it is on the next steam sale and maybe I'll pick it up.

Sword Coast Legends was insulting to D&D fans everywhere, let alone Baldur's Gate fans. At least n-Space closing proves there's still some justice left in this world :p
