Sword Coast Legends developer n-Space has closed after twenty-one years of business. The news was broken by Ben Leary, posted here in its entirety.
UPDATE: We have received word from Sword Coast Legends publisher, Digital Extremes:
"We are deeply saddened by the closing of n-Space. Staying alive as a mid-sized independent developer in the games industry is no small feat. Their passion for creating games never faltered and their dedicated team has ended on the high note of completing the console version of Sword Coast Legends. We are working hard with them to realize as much as we can for their team during this difficult time and encourage players to keep an eye on the official website for more details on the launch of Sword Coast Legends on Xbox One and PlayStation 4."

Good riddance.
More to the point, companies make mistakes much like people, it happens. I don't like hearing about companies going out of business. 21 years is a long time to hold it together, especially in the relatively new arena of on-line gaming development. Best wishes to all the people looking for work.

Going on 20 years at a small business msyself that is thriving and we get great reviews from 99% of our clients because , well , we don't string them along , and do a bait and switch.
The company has their reputation raked across the coals for pushing and marketing a certain type of game , then releasing another. People chose to do that , not a machine. Those people aren't 21 year vets in "online games" , here's the list.

NSpace's CEO did one of the most immature rants I've seen back around launch because of people getting refunds through Steam , so yes , the company deserves to reap what it sowed.
The feel good , touchy feely shit where you are supposed to feel sorry for a company that shuts down because they make stupid decisions is so ridiculous.
Again , good riddance.
Now that they are out of the way , maybe an actual good D&D game can be made by a decent dev company.
Also not knowing all the particulars means you can't make any kiss ass compliments because promised severance packages would help a lot in keeping people quiet.
Also how can you be working hard at keeping it from happening if it is all a secret?
The whole thing smells of contradictions, like nothing of the truth has been said.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Heck they probably didn't even have it close to finished anyways.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Whether the game is good or not that is different. I want to play it.
Edit: Maybe you can still buy it for the PS4 , Digital Extremes says they will take it over and publish it for the console.
Whether it's worth a crap or not who knows , but CP3 is dead , and that was what was going to actually fix the game.
So, it basically wasn't anything like BG1&2 or the Icewind Dale games at all?

It's probably worth it on a sale. The single player felt flat, but I don't think it was ever really marketed on the single player - it was more about the DM tools and level creation. The systems they described in the lead-up to launch weren't really there.
Whereas Neverwinter Nights had a pretty robust DM tools, and a lot of modding ability, SCL kind of fell flat there, too. The DM tools are simple to use and make things with, but they're not flexible.
Ultimately it felt more like Diablo than Baldur's Gate, to me.
I'll see how cheap it is on the next steam sale and maybe I'll pick it up.
