In recent weeks we have heard that Blizzard is patching Diablo 2 and Warcraft (not World of Warcraft). It continues to be true that quality old games never die and Baldur’s Gate is no exception. The game was one of the most fun RPGs in the 1990s (published in 1998). With recent success on mobile platforms and a resurgence in isometric RPGs it is no surprise that Siege of Dragonspear is coming out for fans.

Baldur's Gate series was a defining point in my gaming life, still amazes me how this series of games pulled me so hard into rpg gaming. Excellent story, grand campaign setting, hand drawn artwork that shines even to this day. Ya know it takes me back to a time when game development HAD to deliver a grand experience to have decent sales numbers. The good old days, so unlike today's rush to push out garbage titles. Definitely one I'll be keeping an eye on.

I wish there was a proper sequel instead of some shoe-horned cash grab of taking some assets and trying to make the level cap not break the start of Baldur's Gate 2. It looks more like a mod.

I hear ya there Bowman, I was figuring there would be a sequel to it a long time ago. That being said I am glad they are doing SOMETHING with this game. I have yet to grab the Pillars of Eternity games, but it sounds like they are well done and worth the cost. Glad to see these types of games still being worked on or developed.

How is it not a proper sequel? Wouldn't a sequel be set in the same area and wouldn't it include some of the same characters?

now for a new Wizardry...the one that launched them all!

never liked Balder's Gate for the simple reason I didn't get to make all my characters myself. Character creation is a huge part for me in RPGS

Have very low expectations of beamdog. The "enhanced" versions didn't add much over the originals. Beamdog is primarily known for rereleasing and updating older games. I will assume they are just milking the brand until proven otherwise.

Actually, that's what the devs have wanted to do from the start. Getting the rights from the publisher has been difficult, however- for all the criticism about the EE's, there really isn't more they could have done under their contract. Up until this new expansion, they weren't even allowed to add dialogue involving existing characters.

Beamdog's been clear from the start- Baldur's Gate 3 is their goal, and everything they've done up until now has been to prove to the publisher (Atari or WotC, I forget which) that they can do it. And if Avellone's comments are any indication, Dragonspear is good enough to do just that, if it sells well.

You are mistaken. You were able to make as many Characters in the party that you wanted. You missed some story elements with the npc's if you did but for a 2nd and 3rd playthrough it was awesome.

hmmmm how so? The only way I ever saw to add to the party was to meet characters throughout the game.

If I remember correctly, you had to start a multi player game, and play by yourself. Playing in multiplayer mode would let you create as many characters as you want. So for example you could create 4 and leave 2 spots open to add other characters temporarily to do their quests etc...
