i just find it odd you claim all this stuff that the Dev's talk about being in vanguard at launch not being there, maybe they haven't implemented it yet in beta? who knows....but if they just made it exactly like eq1 and lie about all this stuff they are talking about implementing, it will probably fail.
i don't think sigil is really that stupid to market their game falsely like that, and even more i doubt Microsoft would back a company that would just make a new version of eq with nothing new and lie about all the stuff they are planning to implement.
i think if you are in beta chances are they just haven't implemented all this stuff yet, just because it isn't in there now does not mean it wont be in there at launch or post launch.
He is full of crap. Brad himself has said diplomacy hasn't been talked about much because it ISN'T in beta yet and they are doing some revamps on it before it makes it into beta. If he had all the insider info he claims to have, then surely he would have some of this public information as well. Just another forum troll who gets his jollies putting down games he doesn't like. Not even worth debating.

LOL, no he's not full of crap. Trust me
I think he just means that at its CORE Vanguard has the same underlying principals as EQ, which, to me at least, is not a bad thing. Im so hyped on this game now with all the added info kem0 was nice enough to share.
~Dunadurium
EDIT: and no, a lot of the stuff is not in beta yet. It seems to be just a little more than the basic adventuring gameplay stuff so far. Although kem0 would know better than me...
First, I am impressed with the information, but the information you have on diplomacy is about six months old, and just because it is insider information doesn't negate the fact that it is seriously dated (especially for a beta period). If you keep up with the game, then you will know that just last month they said that diplomacy was undergoing a serious overhaul, so anything that was in beta six months ago other than class names is unimportant. (check out the safehouse videos from January concerning diplomacy) http://www.thesafehouse.org/mugshots/videos/FG0106/index1.php#
But back to the main facts, other than being a fantasy based game that brings back the challenge of EQ, it seems to me Vanguard has less in common with EQ than many other games that have already been released. Real housing, cities with a purpose other than banking, buying, selling, or auctioning, mounts with a purpose other than speed, diplomacy, crafting with a purpose, combat that is more than "set it and forget it," player made cities, no zones, and the list continues. It sounds to me like Vanguard will deliver the challenge of EQ, the better of the improvements since EQ, and some things that no game has ever offered. And I am just getting tired of hearing people call it an EQ clone.
There are a number of people who are pointing out how it is like the good old days of EQ and how some of the devs are from the old EQ dev team, how can some people not then call it an EQ clone?
People give a lot of miscredit to EQ just as people miscredit MS and APPLE for creating windowing in Opertaing Systems.
I think this game has the potential to draw a lot more people than is being expected. And that will be a real test to the creators as the potential income they would see from a larger than expected casual base may get them thinking about changing a few things to make it easier. Not saying this will happen but money often talks louder than the loud talk of a lot of people. When push comes to shove, a lot of people in business will follow the money.

lol i don't mind one bit when they call it a eq clone..........but it really depends how they go about it. if they are implying that nothing is different from the original eq and that sigil is making an exact replica, then they are just uninformed trolls.
but i like to think vanguard is the real eq2, it has the feel of eq and alot of similar class's/race's.....so in a sense it is a eq clone. but then again isn't every single fantasy mmorpg being released a eq clone to? how do you define a eq clone anyway? is it because of similar lore? or similar combat?
like eq invented its combat or races anyways....eq was a clone itself from other rpg's and MUD's aswell....its all just troll propaganda!
to me its just an easy way for a troll to generalize vanguard and make it less than what it really is, a great new mmorpg that indeed has some characteristics of eq and alot of other mmorpg's that have been released.
but i do understand if the label bothers you, cuz one of my pet pievs(sp?) is the term "carebear" lol i really hate that one!
all it is, is a insult to generalize a certain type of player and make them mad....a trolls greatest weapon indeed!
Looking closely on Vanguard. Think it looks interesting. But saying that it breaks the "CURRENT GENRE" is going to far. It's the spiritual successor to EQ.

you might want to reread the original post, he is saying it is breaking the "current genre" of easy and instanced mmorpg, witch is true IMO.
however i know what you are referring to and i agree with you..
Well, this supposed insider information about diplomacy is pretty much up to date, there is an overhall suposedly planned, not that i know anything about it
But the information is spot on concering how the system works currently, else it would not have been a sticky thread on a certain forum that i know nothing about.
Anyways, why is it such a bad thing to compare this game to EQ1? i would not go as far as saying it was a clone, because its not. EQ1 was a great concept on how an mmorpg should be implement, it just got lost along the way with all the crappy expansions.
If sigil sticks to the game plan, vanguard will be a great game, and ill be there on day one along with all of you.
Originally posted by flan Originally posted by Bahk Lets take a look at somthing else my friends on WHY this game is so hyped. Basically this is the LAST hope to see a mmorpg released thats geared towards "harder" aspects such as the things I listed in my op. The genre is unfourtanly dying and newer releases are "toning" down mmorpgs. After Vanguard I really don't think we will see these features in another commercial geared mmorpg AGAIN. Heres the reason it doesnt SELL UNFOURTANLY. I used to love the classic days of EQ, Ultima online, and DAOC when things were tougher but nowadays theres way to much handholding.. so my friends VG is looking like the last chance for an industry break.
I thought the same thing. This is really the last chance for a hardcore MMO to come in market that is dominated by a softcore MMO(WoW). I really hope Vanguard succeds and has many years of good gaming because i'm really looking forward to it.
yep. what this game needs is a strong community that supports it. I beg everyone to please support this game (even when they f*ck up). Otherwise, i'm afraid this type of game play will go extinct.

I too am sick of easy mmorpgs like WoW and their clueless players. However, this mmorpg isnt a major improvement over them for one simple reason.....
LEVEL BASED GAME WITH DAMAGE MULTIPLIER.....nuff said
Design me a skill based mmo please someone. Sick of these simplistic level based games where the outcome of any fight is 99% predetermined bleh
