TheHiveLeader got an early look at Battleborn, the new game by Gearbox. What'd he think? Find out! Battleborn is a new Buy to Play FPS-RPG-MOBA hybrid from the creators of the wildly popular Borderlands series. With MOBA-styled game modes for competitive players, a solo or co-op replayable campaign with tons of loot to collect, and 25 heroes to play with at launch, Battleborn promises to be the shooter for every kind of badass.

Man this game has an awful marketing team. Everone thinks its an Overwatch rip off while its actually nothing like Overwatch.

I kind of agree it needs to be marketed better.

On the flip side the people who argue that they are one in the same probably have not even watched 1 video of it or read anything about it. Two me they are 2 really different games. The only common ground is that their PvP has modes, skills and shooter characters and their art style and humor I could say is similar. Otherwise they are no similar then Bioshock is to Halo.

I enjoy both myself and will play both for the very reason that they are different.

Can the MOBA part be avoided if you just want to play co-op with a friend? (I just don't get what people like in MOBAs)

The story line campaign is completely separate from the PvP feature so yes.

Also one mode for PvP is a capture and hold point mode unlike the other 2 which are similar to moba lane type modes if you still want to PvP without the minion pushing.

Gearbox really screwed the marketing of this game. I hope it is successful because it looks like its going to be a fun game. I also like that in PvP the gear doesnt define your character like in league of legends or other mobas. Here seems to be more about player skill and teamwork.

Also im sold on Orendi, that little four handed witch looks like a lot of fun. EDIT: when they first announced it a discarded it as just another overwatch competitor, boy was i wrong. This looks like a much better investment for the price they are asking.

I played during the Tech Test and it really is't a straight shooter like Overwatch. I mean half the characters are melee characters should be a dead giveaway. As far as a lane pusher goes I did enjoy this a lot because unlike most its not sit and grind mobs tell X level when your geared then go PvP mid-late game. The fight and fun starts at the beginning of the match and the matches are a good length usually.

As far as items they are a lot more balanced so skill is more of a factor. Only 3 items allowed and you still need to earn them in a match by farming crystals which you can block the other team from getting most of them if you hunt em. However, better items usually have negative effects (more damage less hp) and rarer items usually cost tons more crystals usually 2-3 times the cost for 1.3-1.7x the base gear stat of normal vs rare items (just an example).

To top it off their are other sinks then gear like towers and speed and heal units or giant minions that you need to spend those crystals on so it makes you think should you get that heal turret up/upgraded or use it on your item. Went tons of matches without spending them on gear just putting the turrets up.
