First MMO since I can remember where I don't care about leveling

Viper482Viper482 Member LegendaryPosts: 4,101
Been playing since launch and my highest toons are still only 20 and 22. And that is without deliberately trying to level them. I am just enjoying discovering the world and doing whatever I feel like at the time. Brings me back to the day when it was about stopping to smell the roases, journey over destination. This MMO has been a breath of fresh air for me, it is was Archeage was during alpha for me before it was trashed by greed. Hoping Daum doesn't go down the same road.

To add to it, I don't care about leveling either but I find myself at level 48 and not sure how I got there ;)

I'm having the time of my life, and my highest char is 44, to the dismay of my GM.

my highest is 27(witch), and I have the following 22(Tamer)-20(Warrior)-18(sorc)-13(zerk)...I saved that 6th spot (bought 49$ option at release) for the Musa, but was pleasently surprised when Daum gave us an extra character slot.  My Musa is now 12 and I am not doing any quests except for inventory spots, and exp grinding

I actually do care about leveling. Just about to hit 51. Having said that, if I explore a new avenue of the game or decide to fish or some such thing I can find myself very engrossed. So much so that sometimes I "don't" have time to level.

Eventually though you will catch up to other players though and you will be so far behind when you hit the bottle neck you will be disappointed.  1 shot and your dead, have fun trying to do anything endgame.

Just dinged 49 on my giant and i'm not going to do the quest that will let me hit 50.  (gonna stay their for awhile and farm skill points, energy, cp, and start doing some crafting.  Loving the game but man it really requires alot of effort and time on my part, which is fine. I'm not going anywhere and I'm not in a rush.

Leveling is the only true customization your character has so if you don't like leveling, you don't care much about your character which is not a good thing.
The only other aspect is to level your weapon and gear which is imo a terrible design with the goofy aged ++ idea. That idea to me at least was an obvious idea to allow them to make less items for the game.
I found nothing else even remotely fun, obviously afk fishing is not fun because your not doing anything, since some are not liking leveling that means you also don't like the combat, auto travel means you also don't like the discovery, automated workers means you don't care there is no visual it is just a stat idea.

So what is left for actual gaming and possible fun, pvp?Personally i can't stand pvp in my rpg's and with a +++ weapon design,i definitely would not go for pvp in BDO.
IMO the game has nothing fun and nothing going for it,only argument i see is if you actually like the combat to which i don't because it is not even remotely plausible seeing goofy back flips and spin o rama's ,all sorts of non realistic movement, looks silly to me.
Also supporting the idea they wanted to make LESS items is the fact they also have no ammo for your ranger which also means no crafting of ammo ,again lazy design after lazy idea, takes away the very ideas you EXPECT to see in a role playing game.
The nodes idea could have been a decent idea if not plastering goofy lines all over your map and not automating almost everything traded in the game, imo they really messed up the basics of game design, they took away the players from the actual game and automated it,seems i don't like any of their bad decisions.

Either you haven't played the game or you did play the beta for only few hours with this rant of yours.
Because It seems you don't know much about BDO.

Doesn't matter whether he ever played the game or not, his opinions are law and truth you know?

I like discovering new places and unraveling the story of Black Desert Online.  What level do I need to be able to do that?

Goods points all. When you stop caring about your level and making yourself grind for something because you are brainwashed then the magic starts to happen. Not just this game but many games start to become more fluid and enjoyable.

I feel the same way. I get caught up on my farming mule all day sometimes I don't even play my main. This is gonna be my game till Shroud of the Avatar launches. So much to do....and I kinda like the fishing mini game; as simple as it is.

That's because endgame means grind and PVP.  Not everyone is anxious to get there.  Some people are actually killing themselves to delevel and avoid it.  This is the first MMO I can remember that would in any way encourage that kind of play.

I mean, let's face it.  If you were really looking forward to endgame, you'd care about leveling.

So how much is your lack of desire to level because of how much fun you're having now and how much of it is because of how little fun you expect to have if you do level?

Endgame is a different beast from the rest of the game.  It's not all sunshine and dialogue boxes like the middle of the game.

There are 2 significant numbers in BD

    56 and +15

Once the first one is attained leveling doesn't matter, because +gear up is really what it all comes down to in the end, as +15 is the competitive baseline,  the real game is attaining  +20
+15 is not competitive by any means. +16 is the breaking point in power scaling. Anything above +16 gets progressively stronger with each enchant level.

Second, iirc levels do affect your accuracy thus if you are trying to fight higher lvl player with stacked evasion, you won't hit anything.

I think there was a video featuring Kunochi soloing red battlefield...
