Endgame content for a non-raider: WoW or SWTOR?

MightyUncleanMightyUnclean Member EpicPosts: 3,531
Hello,

I'm not much of raider these days.  I'm also not much of a PvP'er...not at all.  In most of the MMO's I play, I spend my time in solo PvE, small-group dungeon content, or socializing.

That being said, which has the most and most enjoyable endgame PvE content for me, WoW or SWTOR?  I haven't played either in some time.  I'm fine paying a sub for either one.

Thanks!

With Kotfe and class stories I would say Swtor.  I play both and enjoy the story/pve content (solo) content more in swtor.

    SWTOR is mostly grinding  quests(heroics)
WoW got rep grind, old dungeons and raid for transmog, pet battles

    pick your poison :P

I had fun once, it was terrible.

I've always preferred WoW, but I just can't stomach the thought of sitting in a garrison and sending NPC's out on quests, if that's mostly what there is to do.

I mean, if you're out running daily quests, you're at least out doing something and have a chance of seeing other players.

Definitely LOTRO!  But I turn to that for my musical/social needs.  I don't play the actual PvE game at all now...

Tree of Savior is the real answer, plenty of hours to grind and very fun while doing so. But, if you are insistent on one of those two games, I would probably lean towards WoW. If you start from level 1, the leveling will take you a decent amount of time. The dungeons are quick, queable and easy to jump in and out of. Once you hit level cap there are plenty of quest lines to do and small group-based content to enjoy. And then, of course, there are garrisons, the bane of some who prefer group-based content over solo but might be enjoyable for someone who wants to play the game alone and enjoys harvest moon/farmville type content.

There are daily quests outside of the garrison... Tanaan Jungle for example.  Pretty much every zone offers daily quests.  If you're an achievement whore, you'll be spending the preponderance of your time outside of the garrison.

As for seeing other players... well, they're all in the garrison waiting on queues.  Majority of the player base is on hiatus until August 30th... when the new expansion is due to go live.  So if people is what you want to see, wait until then... otherwise, hit up Black Desert Online... that's where everyone is atm.

Is there something about the grind in Tree of Savior that makes it more enjoyable than the average grind?  Is it just that it's new?

BDO does look beautiful, but from what I've gathered here and on the official forums, it's mostly PvP at endgame.  Sorry, am I allowed to use the word "endgame" in reference to BDO?  ;)

For pure solo play, swtor by a long way.

FFXIV also has a very nice set of activities but you will need to group for a lot of it even the casual stuff.

FFXIV is just soooo...kiddy and foofy.  I couldn't get into it when I tried.

I would go with SWTOR.  WoW's non-raiding endgame is almost nonexistant, with SWTOR at least you get the story content.  Maybe take another look at WoW in august when the new expansion pre-events should be going.

For someone who lists solo PvE at the top of their list I would recommend BDO.  Almost all the content is available to you.  Personally I found grinding to be quite an enjoyable change of pace from questing mostly because I had been playing almost nothing but quest based games for the last 10 years.  PvP really isn't that common unless you're looking for it or in one or two highly contested zones.

Play wow for at least a month so you can make money to sub for free using the token system

I have heard World of Warcraft casualized their raiding system.  Basically, they made raids easy enough that a PUG of random strangers can complete them.  If you're calling yourself a non-raider because of the time commitment and scheduling aspect of old-school WoW raiding, you don't have to worry about that any more.  Raids are just another dungeon, but with a few more people.

Guild Wars 2 may also be something you might be interested in.  It is very friendly to casual play.  Aside from dealing with the small percentage of elitists, dungeon runs can be done with minimal frustration in a group of random players.  Everything else is soloable or done with groups of random players that show up for the event then leave at their leisure.

The newish WOW zone has dailies, a few of which are group ones.  There's one or two lengthy rep grinds too.  For garrison missions addons make it pretty quick to manage those nowadays (the last few weeks I did them I spent less than 8 secs at the garrison table, which was enough to collect all the gold and send them back out on any gold missions.)  I also spent a good chunk of time working on crafting in the new zone, as it lets you upgrade your crafted items to remain competitive with the raiding gear (still limited to 3 crafted items, but it's worth upgrading them all even if you raid.)

I wouldn't make a big case for it overall, as I haven't played SWTOR recently.  If all I wanted was quest content, I'd definitely play ESO over WOW.  But personally I want grouping and ESO's queue is crazy slow compared with WOW's.
