Well, I leave the AMD support for Quizz but Nvidia wise you either want a 960 or 970. The 950 is the cheap gamers choice but it is not worth the bother, too lousy performance.
The 960 is fine now but the 970 will last you far longer and works fine if you want to max out a MMO with many people on the screen at the same time. It all comes down to what you want to pay for the card though, the 960 is far cheaper but I think the 970 is what give you most for your bucks anyways. The 980 and Titan cards will give you less bang for each buck you spend, they feel a bit overpriced even if they are great cards.
Also, there is a new generation of cards comming out, seems to be somewhere thiis summer or early fall. Worth knowing.
It's really a question of what you're willing to spend. If you want to stay under $200, the best values I see at the moment in various price ranges are:
You realize that I linked a particular GTX 950 on a particular site at a particular price, don't you?
Of course, now prices have changed so it's not a good deal anymore, and I can't find another GTX 950 that is. This Radeon R7 370 sure is though, at $115 before a $15 rebate. Free shipping, too:
