I have very little interest in this game.  Of course, I have very little interest in FPS or MOBA so....I think that explains it.

The game plays alot different the most FPS games do with the way they have abilities setup and class mechanics. Tracer, for example, has some pretty unique mechanics. They have classes that fit every style of play up to and including people that don't even normally like FPS games. Older class based FPS have pretty general/bland mechanics. I don't know why anyone would think this game is "Grindy" though. That just makes no sense. You can access all the heroes and maps right from the start and for all time going forward. I mean, you don't have the cosmetic stuff but that is just there to have progression. Maybe you don't like progression? If that is the case it is not necessarily a "grind" it is more like your opinion on a thing a lot of other people enjoy. Personally I love having progression as it will generally keep me playing a game FAR FAR longer then normal. Low poly count? What year is this? Anyways, the graphics are far superior to any other class based FPS out there currently. (Not that there are many)

I don't get the idea of gameplay being "repetitive". This comment makes no sense. That applies to virtually every game ever. It has no bearing on pretty much anything. So I will disregard this comment.

The frantic nature of the game is just how the game is. A lot of people are excited BECAUSE of that. It is just your opinion that you don't like it. But it is fine if you don't. You still have Call of Duty and Halo.

Balance is a pretty big point of contention I have seen all over the place but I think we won't truly see how that shakes out until competitive play after launch. The main thing to remember is that a lot of people complaining about balance are the same guys who pick one character and refuse to switch. I get it, you get used to one, you don't want to learn another. Fortunately most characters are pretty easy to figure out. It is just a matter of those players adapting to the volatile nature of character switching in the game and getting more then one character of experience under their belt. The game is balanced very much around the "paper, rock, scissors" mentality. There will be certain classes that are supposed to be superior to other classes.

Nope, the game is one of the best in a LONG time. Great game with a lot of fun to be had.

This game is doing nothing new I don't see how it's getting so much hype. Looks lame to me.
  • DeltoisDeltois Member UncommonPosts: 384
Cool, don t play it then. Whats sad is it s better then almost all MMOs out.

Of course Overwatch will be overhyped. Any product with the kind of marketing punch that Overwatch has behind it, will be.

Anything Blizzard puts out will be overhyped. Nothing really new with this style of online shooter. Blizz has the money to make it seem like the second coming just like they did with Wow.

The thing is, everything they release has such a huge amount of polish, detail and production value. Really, no company releases games so smooth and nice to play, they might not be the best but damn are they all smooth as fuck. This attracts, lots and lots of people.

One of the best games I have ever played in a long loooong time. I'm so glad I bought it. I already played it over 300 hours and it's not even released yet...

But what is so special about it besides polish.. I mean you can frost a turd but dosent make it a doughnut

What hype are people referring too? I haven't heard one relevant gamer hype this game. The general consensus has been that it is a solid "OK" FPS shooter. Not a terrible game, but not a great game. Just some bland, reproduced FPS game with a Blizzard tag stuck on it.

Something has to have actual hype in order for it to be hyped.

The game is pretty hyped, not massively but not non existant either. It's very inbetween.

Coming from someone who has played the game, it is not a bland or just a "OK" FPS shooter, it is easy to say this when you haven't played it yourself or if you're going into the game with biased opinions from the get go. The game is actually incredibly fun, it is by far the most fun I've had in a shooter in a long, long time. Not sure what you mean by reproduced. It does take things from other FPS shooters indeed but so do a lot of other shooters. But there is always that something in the games that make it unique and Overwatch has that too.

As for Blizzard putting their tag on the game. This game was originally a game called Titan which was going to be an MMO and it was made by the same people who worked on WoW back in the Vanilla days and pretty much all other Blizzard games. They scrapped Titan eventually and turned it into Overwatch instead. So basically it is a couple people who have been with Blizzard since almost the beginning and some who joined later who have been working on this game, it's not just a random game made by random people that Blizzard picked up and decided to put into their roster so I wouldn't say they just slapped their tag on it.

Anyways this is becoming a long text on a short quote but my point is the game is very well polished and has a very bright future ahead of it. I've been a FPS player for almost my entire life, I've played Overwatch since closed beta started and I am still not even close to bored and I doubt I ever will be when they keep adding new maps and will continue adding new heroes. So no this isn't just a basic FPS shooter, it is very unique and all kinds of beautiful. I hope you choose to play it someday and go in with an open mind, I'm positive you will love it.

Nothing is exactly new with the game, it's all been done before pretty much. But it still has its own unique take and there is still something special about it. Can't really put it into words but once you play it you will definitely understand what is so special about it =)

I can see it being fun for a total casual fps player but not to a serious fps player such as myself.
The maps are weak although not totally rubbish like some fps games, the weapons are mostly pew pew and combat is mostly spam.

I can tell you that one of the earliest top level fps's UT99  "made it to the world cyber games stage" players used to cry foul on spam combat and i mean like every game and it really wasn't nearly as bad as you see now in a game like OW.There is a reason Deck 16 became popular,it is because you could see everyone yet maintain range from spam.As players became more skilled and less whiney, they realized that spam had no place in ut99,it took way more than spamming to get anywhere.

The healing concept in OW does promote team play which i am ok with but the simplicity and ease of it'e mechanic ,i cannot accept.
Bottom line is i would never take it serious and especially not as an esport.
You forgot to mention it doesn't play close enough to FF11 for your liking.

    SW battlefront is shallow. =/
Didn't look that way to me.  Tons of gamemodes, including 20v20 (which is really cool), playing as heros/villians, tons of random power ups which change what you can do, weapon progression, switching between shooting on the land and then flying on a ship or driving a walker.

Plus I heard they're going to do a DLC for the new movie coming out.

Not really MOBA gameplay but I don't honestly know how shooters and MOBAs mix yet.  Seems like there's serious balance issues when you try to balance say tanks, healers and dps in a shooter.  In Overwatch specifically it seems to me like mobility is completely out of control.

Plus I'd much rather be able to play as Darth Vader than some random cartoon guy with some character quirks.

I thought the same thing, refunded it.

It's not very hyped to begin with but overall it's a decent game, just a little bit boring. Most people are going to thoroughly enjoy it for a couple of weeks and then they are going to get bored. It just doesn't have any longevity tbh, that's the only problem. It's repetitive and switching heroes just doesn't help very much. Same gameplay we're all used to from playing fps shooters of it's kind. Hopefully Blizz will move onto something better but for now, this is what we're stuck with.

While you are entitled to your opnion about your feelings of the game, I don't really think it is fair to say it is the same gameplay we are used to seeing from fps shooters of it's kind. It has some elements of a ton of different games, but there are no other FPS games out there with all the different kinds of mobility (wall running, double jumping, sprinting, flying, rocket boot jumping, charging, grappling hooking, dashing, ect) that it has. It also has abilities, which is not something we have really seen before in an FPS. The hero mechanics also make heros all feel unique, which is not something we really see touched on very much in other FPS games. TF2 is the closest and the only real gameplay difference between the classes in that game is the weapons.

Blizzard is going to run into exactly the same problem with overwatch as they are with HotS.  That is, they typically have a lower skill ceiling as to make the game more casual friendly.  Unfortunately this translates into less exciting gameplay for e-sports, which is precisely what their main goal with this game is.

It will be very popular because it's Blizzard, and unfortunately there is way too large a blind loyal faction of blizzard fans, however that doesn't mean it wont be a good game, it just likely won't be a great game.  CS:GO will continue to be the dominant pro e-sport FPS.

fun game but I hope they will be able to deal with hacks for good. I saw some hackers in closed beta already which is a major bummer.

The game is made by Blizzard and we are on a forum where hating everything Blizzard makes is "kewl".
    What did you expect?

Did that made that gabage Moba they spit out any better by likeing the company?

Blizzard did not make any good games since WoW classic and i hate WoW with passion.
All the old devs left the company years ago, people who joined and are making those trash games are people who grew up with casual games. The just recycle the idea and spit out a new uniform on them. That what china has been doing since decades. First with pc mmos, then with mobile games.

You cannot expect good games from big companys that established their names of centurys anymore. They just try to survive, they do not innovate.
Our last hope are the small indie dev teams, like every big company was, once they grew big and retrashed their recycled games on us.

In playing it I was surprised.  It was much more fun than I had anticipated.

That being said, its just TF2.  Nothing new or different aside from your "ultimate" thingy, which is pretty much a charge time win button.

It doesn't offer enough to keep me terribly interested in the game, but if you're looking for a quick arena shooter it fits the bill.

I like games like battlefield 3 much more than this, I think the fact overwatch's maps feel so small and hallway like is a lot of my less-than-excited-ness.

It is overhyped, no doubt about it. There is not much original about it and the content is lacking.

BUT! the existing content is still pretty well done and the game is entertaining.

All in all there is nothing wrong in overhyping good games a bit, you know, possitive reinforcement for hard woking devs.
