Tablet vs Chromebook my view

Most articles I have seen put the tablet as a slightly better choice over a Chromebook for a secondary 'computer'. Now that I have both I have to very much disagree.

I have a 4 year old cheap Chromebook which I paid $200 for and I now have a Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 current generation tablet.
The only thing better about the tablet is the audio and video and keep in mind my chromebook is old and cheap.

screen smaller, navigation harderer, less flexible in what it can do, horrible typing on a monitor. I am thinking of returning it and just getting a new Chromebook.

Anyway, just wanted to throw my view out there.

    Return it if you still can. If you're comfortable with how large the Chromebook is, then you should have never bought a 8.9 inch tablet. Buy a Chromebook or laptop instead.

    My tablet is an ipad air. Probably not much different than other tablets; light, mobile and pretty much can do anything for your life. Yes, it would be nice to highjack it to customize apps and it does have a shitty camera however for $800, it delivers. Pleasant surprise on how easy it is to use it too after using dos window based platforms all my life. but for desktops with high end gaming, I only go with Intel or AMD stuff.

    to be honest $300 Chromebooks are VERY under rated. my 4 year old $200 chromebook is overall better than my brand new $400 Amazon HDX 8.9

    I know at my school the students Grades 3-6 at least have pretty much completely moved over to chromebooks.  We have both available but they seem to prefer them.  I find both useful for different things.  Chromebook screens are so small and the resolution is pretty bad.  Tablets have gotten a lot better for lower cost as well.

    For me it is the battery of the chromebook that makes it better for actually doing work or creating content. . where the tablet seems better for consuming content.

    I have a good chromebook from Asus, 13" screen. Love it for some things.


    however, I just saw a 10" (is there a 12"?) HP full windows 10 tablet. That sure would be Nic for running some basic windows games! With the convenience of a tablet, too. Hmmm.

    Of course!  Granted in order for it to be a bonus - you'd have to like mobile games or social gaming like facebook. :)

    Chromebooks are basically:

    1. cheaper for the same or better performance
    2. larger screens
    3. comes with keyboard already
    4. I have rarely ever seen an 'app' be better than the browser based version of the same tool
    5. turns out...yeah....facebook too

    There are times when you don't necessarily want or need the full fold-out clamshell design.

    Such as, reading an ebook. 

    I mean, really, why does it have to be an either/or type of situation? It's not like there's a law against owning both a chromebook and a tablet at the same time... Hell, tablets are down under $50, it's not like it breaks the bank owning both.

    because I have a kindle reader which works wonders outside and has a battery life of a billion years.

    sorry but I returned the Tablet and I am buying a new Chromebook. That set up makes a lot more sense for me.

    oh and if I dont have my kindle handy my phone with a 5" screen is just fine

    I find both useful in their own ways. Pricewise I prefer a lower end laptop and installing ChromeOS or any other flavor of linux, saves money over the branding and can usually get better hardware at a lower cost. Arguably though it's harder to find BIOS capable laptops, compiling/installing an OS with UEFI can suck. (Need a partition with vfat as your boot partition, fstab example: dev/BOOT  /boot  vfat  defaults, noatime 0 0 ... noatime is better in solid states, not going into detail, defaults fine for both.) 

    Tablet is another story, depends on what you use it for, for a full blown computer not really a good choice. But great readers and great VOIP choice that's compact enough to take with. (Use mine more as a phone, gogo gadget google voice.) Also good for a camera on the go, could only imagine trying to take a picture or video with a big clamshell.

    Hello there :)

    I have to say I love my Ipad, massively portable and useful for loads of stuff.

    However Gaming proper needs a good PC and a comfy setup. not a chrombook or a tablet IMO :)

    Why not go to  Monria it's the best place to start your virtual life in Entropia Universe

    well if your iPhone had a screen larger than 3" then maybe you would only need a phone and a chromebook.
