Real in-game screenshots?

FranciscourantFranciscourant Member UncommonPosts: 356
edited May 2016 in Chronicles of Elyria
I'm wondering if some of the screenshots published on the website are real in-game environments.

Examples:

It seems to me that the area around the entrance may have been edited. (another user mentioned it earlier on MMORPG.com)

Do we have a confirmation that this image shows a real game environment? Maybe there is a second screenshot of the interior of the cave or a short in-game footage?

Another one here that I have some doubts about being a "screenshot" of real in-game environment:

Do any other images showing the installations and the character, or a short footage published that could confirm that this zone already exists in the game?

The following image is also in the "screenshots" section, which means I assume that the contract negotiation system should already be implemented in the game. Is it confirmed that this system is already functional? Or is it just a superimposed UI on a blurred image?

Idk hard to tell but there are a few videos ....like this
also they already have ageing system who knows.......if they didn't have raw working  systems I would doubt that they could finish until  dec 2017 .
But >>>IF<<<< they have already these systems working but need founding for more programmers to implement  them look like a reasonable date .
ALL I can say is maybe ))

If they show some additional screenshots of those environments and the presumably functional systems, I guess I'd be a bit more confident about what has been developed so far and what's left to do. And about the honesty of the team. I don't know those people, they're from the internet =P so it's hard to judge sometimes.

I'll leave it to the experts in image authentication. What I see on this image appears to me like an alteration, however it could be caused by other things probably.

In program name of the screen details  is said paint.net 4.0.9 but there is a video of that screen so it can't be a concept art maybe because they edited and added Chronicle of Elyria Mark in corner
     while
Skull cave  doesn't have a program name

This is what you've meant ?

Agree but this for some reason didn't stop hordes to buy Star Citizen  Art Concepts ships  xD

If I'm correct Cloud Imperium has shown tons of in-game footage before and during their Kickstarter in 2012. I think they had already a very elaborated demo at that time.

The shot of the desert skull cave was in game, but had some after editing because they didnt have the art assets in the game engine yet. The shot of the Akashic Records with the guy walking is concept art, its in the wrong location on the site. The negotiation screen is an in game screen shot. Its not clear if its actually functional or if they only have the UI implemented.

Can you point out where it's been explained that the Skull Cave image was altered? It doesn't seem to be written on the page where the screenshots are presented.

The Akashic Records image in is the screenshots section since at least 6 months. https://web.archive.org/web/20150923154052/http://chroniclesofelyria.com/media

Before that, many of the "screenshots" were presented as "concept | images". https://web.archive.org/web/20150909002855/http://chroniclesofelyria.com/media

I wonder why they would implement the UI before implementing the whole system. Maybe to give the impression that the game is further along than it is in reality.

When I watch the screenshot section, I think (well not in the case of CoE, but generally): "All those things must really be in the game since it's called screenshots." That's what the screenshot section is for. When I figure out that all those images aren't showing real in-game stuff, I feel like it's misleading.

So if what you say is confirmed by Soulbound Studios, it would mean that a large number of images that were introduced as real screenshots coming from the game, unaltered, are in fact edited images of not necessarily real locations nor functioning systems.

Not at all. The desert image was altered, this was said by the developers in IRC. The Akashic Records image is just in the wrong spot. As I said with the negotiations image, its entirely possible that the system is fully implemented. The vast majority of the images that are on the screenshots page are from the in game engine taken from their in house test server.

I think it shouldn't just be the vast majority, it should be all the images published in the screenshots section that are real in-game screenshots.

    The rest:
    - Skull: supposedly altered, possibly added the whole cave and entrance
    - Akashic library: presumably not in-game, concept art
    - Character creation
    - Bag looting
    - Contract negotiation
    - Trade agreement
    - "Select your family"
    - "Select your soul"

How do we know which ones are edited images with superimposed UI, and which ones represent functional systems in the game?

I consider that putting an image of a UI on top of a blurred screenshot doesn't make it an in-game screenshot showing a system.

    edit messed up the quote

I think they just need to move the couple of concept pictures out of the screenshot section and into the concept section. That would fix the confusion entirely. So the Akashic Record image, the cave one, and the one from the forest  should be moved. All the rest are from the in game engine.

Back in September 2015, they moved those images from the "concept" section to "screenshots", and left them there for +6 months.

The issue doesn't seem to spring solely from confusion.

I think it is the kickstarter video(?) in which you can can see a dev actually play with the character selection sliders for a brief moment. So some of the systems seem to be atleast somewhat functional. Some might not be.
But i agree. If stuff, like for example the trade negotiations screenshot is not actually been taken from a live game session, it should be marked as "proposed", or "thats how we want it to look in the future."

The skull pic also has wrong shadows. I am skeptical of quite a bit of this game atm.

Is there an allegation that they photo/paintshopped their supposed screenshots?

If that is actually able to be proven that should be the subject of a "Non-Sponsored" Article on here...

This early in the games development is this really that important?

I mean, concept art or in game image we are still a couple of years away so it is not really an important question to ask till a lot longer down the development process.

People need to be very careful making allegations like that unless they're a lawyer or well-informed on the law...

I checked the Kickstarter video again and it doesn't seem to me like the sliders are correlated to the height of the character presented in the video.

    [from 8:04 on Kickstarter video]

The height of the character apparently changes before the slider is moved, and then the slider is slightly moved to the right, which should make the character higher, but instead it gets smaller:

    (slider not moved yet)

(height slider pushed slightly to the right, character is smaller)

(slider pushed to the right, apparently similar height than image #1)

I imagine the sliders are not centered and tied properly to the adjustments. I've played games where I click a slider and it actually grows slightly when I've not even moved the slider.

    aka: bugs.

Look: http://www.gamesas.com/character-creation-weight-slider-not-working-t325753.html Someone with skyrim on a console had slider bugs. You might have just found a bug in the sliders!
