I had fun reading the best song ever recorded thread. So I'll try another.
What's your favorite television show ever and WHY? I like reading the why's, so don't forget to tell us why.
I honestly have a tie. I can't pick between my top two shows so I'll just put both.
The X-Files
Northern Exposure
The X-Files - I love sci-fi, paranormal subjects, and conspiracy. This show had it all. I also liked the mood of the X-Files. It was like a grey rainy day and it fit in so well with the stories. Another thing I liked was how it took real science and applied it to paranormal situations. I've heard a lot of people didn't like it when Dogget and Reyez were introduced. But I thought they were awesome. Chris Carter made a masterpiece. I've got all the DVD sets and watch them a lot. Oh, and Scully is just dang cool. I've heard that another X-Files movie has been written and negotiations are in the works to film it. I hope.
Northern Exposure - If you have never seen Northern Exposure then I HIGHLY recommend checking it out. I sooo want to live in Cicely. I think that if everyone could live like the characters in that town then the world would be awesome. The magic, the deepness of the plots, the sweetness of the characters, and the lessons that were there to witness. It was so fun to watch. There were times that it actually got me close to crying too. It was easy to connect with the characters. I'm building my DVD collection as they come out. I will definitely wear them out too.

Seinfeld, without a doubt. The way each episode has numerous stories that all tie together so perfectly makes this, in my opinion, one of the best written shows ever made.
The Wonder Years.

I had a boner for that chick on wonder years. It was age-apropriate so give me a break.
My fave shows has to be Seinfeld though. Not smart. Not particularly clever. But very very funny.
Good choice, Butthead
People still watch TV?
X-Play!!!
If it ain't broke, don't fix it...
Nothing else comes close

By FAR The X-Files.
I agree with the OP too. I have heard a lot of people say that the later episodes weren't too good, but to me they were. I loved the way Scully was forced to take on the role of Mulder in her ideas. It was like Doggette (sp?) was there to unknowingly pry it out of her. It seemed to me that it brought out something in her that was always there but that she had the priviledge of keeping hidden. She may have felt safe being in the "Freaky Mulder" group but she couldn't enjoy that safety anymore.
Plus one of my favorite X-Files episode involved Scully and Doggette. Remember the one where that fella had that creature in his spine that the weirdo city people worshipped? And then they put it in Scully. Man oh man, I loved that episode.
And I was so so so so so mad that the Lone Gunmen died. WTF was that?!?!?!
I'm hoping the new X-Files movie comes to be too. I dream that it might actually spawn new tv episodes. I haven't found anything on t.v. to even come close to bringing me the excitement I got on Sunday nights watching the new episodes.
Please bring back my favorite show !!!!
Whannnnn Whannnnn dat is the sound of 20 year old babies
There's something wrong with television these days. Namely, it's boring. I'm fed up with reality shows and it seems like the only plots in scripted shows are about sex and being filthy.
But my favorite show is a tossup. Either the old Outer Limits, The X-Files, or StarTrek TNG. Lot's of people putting The X-Files, cool. I still wonder why it went away.
Those old Outer Limits shows were so ahead of their time. The stories were fun and thought provoking. And I love the way they had all the old stars of the time in each one.
The X-Files was just something so different and cool to follow. I loved the paranormal and conspiracy themes. I saw Gillian Anderson on a show on PBS the other night. She was really good. I didn't realize she was such a talented actress. I mean, she played an excellent Scully, but a lot of times people are good at one role and then fail at everything else. But she was kicking butt in a totally different role as Scully.
And of all the Star Treks I like The Next Generation the most. It was just the perfect cast and stories. Really good. I Tivo them on Spike TV so I can watch them at night. hehe.

It all seems so stupid
It makes me want to give up
But why should I give up
When it all seems so stupid
I would have to give three shows, I know it's a cop out and that I did not choose one.
Seinfield is one, I mean the show was extremely well written, the actors always seemed to be having fun doing it and it made such a huge impact on our culture in general. Who hasn't heard a reference to the Soup Nazi..." No soup for you, back of the line!!" or wanted to celebrate Festivus..." It's a Festivus for the rest of us." So many good lines and concepts.....
X-Files, when I was in high school, I would have my grandparents tape this for me when I knew I was not going to be able to sit and watch it. I loved how Mulder was literally crazy like a Fox. Everything was dark and intriguing. One of my favorite episodes was the one where they where is the forest where a logging company had cut open a tree and released some sort of ancient insects that would mummify you if they caught you in the dark. If I remember correctly both Mulder and Scully got caught by these things but ended getting rescued.
And finally my favorite current show is The Family Guy. Again extremely well written and how can you not like Stewie and Brian. A megalamoniacal baby with intentions of taking over the world and a talking dog with a drinking problem, I mean with just these two character concepts, the possibilities are endless. Ever since I saw the episode that had the diamond comercial that paradied the DeBeers silhouette style commercial, I have been hooked. If you have not seen it, imagine if you will...A male and female silhouette facing eachother, the DeBeers music going in the background, then the classic line "For this she will pretty much have to" and the female silhoutte head disappears....
"It is easier to be cruel than wise. The road to wisdom is long and difficult... so most people just turn out to be assholes" Feng (Christopher Walken)
Seinfeld and Daily Planet.
Go to hell.
I'm sorry.
But go to hell.

The Simpsons. It's been an all-time favorite ever since the early 90s. There's always a sense of comedy in each episode and some just make you crack-up. One of the best things about it is that they make parodies of movie hits or TV hits. And if you want mystery or a feel of pity, they have episodes with that also (which bore me).
I'm also starting to watch The War at Home. So far, it's well-written and really funny. (^_^)
This siggy is CGI that my cousin made in 4 hours.
Man, I feel wierd putting my favorite because everyone else is putting it too. So I'll put my second favorite show also.
The X-Files. My favorite show ever.
I think it's awesome so many people are putting it. Why did it go off the air? It was so good. I liked all the freaky stories and how they used science in them. My favorite episodes were the one where the devil came to town. She was the high school substitute teacher and was taking students as sacrifices to make up for the town adults not appeasing anymore. That one rocked. Oh, and the one where the author was writing a story about Mulder and Scully. The author was Charles Nelson Riley. That one was a classic, with the clay animation monster coming out of the UFO. Really funny and cool. Oh, and one more favorite. The episode with the character named Tooms. Man, that one actually spooked me. hehe.
Second favorite show ever. The Muppet Show. I used to watch those all the time when I was a little kid. I have seen them since I became an adult and they are friggin' funny as hell even to me grown up. I wish they'd play it again for the kids these days so they could enjoy it. Muppets are awesome.

X-files and Star Trek the original series lol its to funny
I only really like the first few seasons of X-files when they were filming in Vancouver still. When they moved to LA It lost something. I donno mabey its just me but that is the exact time I stoped watching before that I watched every single episode hell I own the DVD seasons up to that point. Then they got the new people and I just couldn't watch it be the early days were awsome.
As far as Star Trek It... is... good.... for one reason... Shattner =P
Deadwood is the best of all time, no show is done better than that... The reason I find it extremely appealing is because not everyone can stomach watching this... Deadwood is so hard-boiled, you could play tennis with it... People are people in Deadwood, not a mystification of any particular genre (even though the people are wearing cowboy hats), just a girtty town people once flocked to in the search of gold without law...
And Al Swearengen is the coolest fictional TV character of all time... I have never seen anyone with a badass presence like this guy... He walks into a room and people piss themselves...
Damn you for posting before me!
Yup M*A*S*H wins all the awards in my book. Best comedy/drama/medical writing and acting in the entire history of television. The only TV show in which I can watch the same episodes over and over and over and over and still find them fresh and funny. Once they release the last 2 seasons this year I'll have all 11 on Dvd.
There was not 1 character on Mash you didn't like, even through 2 cast changes, and 1 major role change.
