hellos everybody
got few questions i'd really appreciate if someone could answer.
1. How's the donwtime in FFXI?
Is it compairable to other mmorpgs? bigger, smaller? I mean here in fact how much time goes wasted on doing nothing, due to the fact of waiting for ppl, resting after combat , etc.. general pace of the game, how is it?
2. How's the ability to solo in FFXi?
I'm not stating im antisocial, i'd just like the idea of some indepandancy. I heard voices FFXI really forces ppl to grp. Is it so? Being rather a casual gamer nowadays, I'd like to be able to enjoy the game without being stacked too often waitng for a grp to gather or such things. Does the game offer enough to such kind of players?
cheers for replies

there are some combos that can solo effectively.
redmage/warrior, dragoon/redmage or whitemage, beast tamer/whitemage or redmage. there might be more.
the only I can account for is I have a level 23 redmage/warrior friend, he can solo evens/toughs.
My redmage is only level 10, and grouping is kind of different from other games. There arent a large number of monsters, so you kind of have to move around alot. this maybe just in the beginning though. Downtime isnt bad.
Downtime: Almost none except for game update.
Solo: Not recommended in FF11. You can solo Even/Tough in right class however it is not worth it. You will have almost no HP/MP left for the next monster. Group should give you more exp depends on the highest level member. If the Highest level character in your group views the monster as very tough, you should get around 100-120xp with in 2 levels. Incridible tough should get you 150-200 within 2 levels. Tough is 70 - 100. even match is 50-70, then decent challenge is 12-36.
By fighting very tough monster, you should get at least 100xp every kill and little downtime between the fights. So the chain#2 will give you 115, then chain#3 is 130 and so on. You have to keep the chain going by fighting tough or above monsters and keep each fight within 2 minutes, you should get more and more bonus. The best chain I've got killing tough to very tough was #5, and my last very tough got me 300xp for the one kill. So it is much more efficient to fight in a well balanced group with 2xtanks(WAR), 2xdamage dealers(MNK/THIEF/BLM), 2xhealer/support/debuffer (WHM/RDM). and remember your skillchain (renki), this will also reduce your fighting time.
Soloing is actually the best way to gain experience for the first 5 to 10 levels of the game but the higher level you become soloing quickly dies out. There are things you can solo for exp at least up into the 30s but the exp from lower level easy con creatures is very small and if you do die for some reason the exp lose will quickly destroy an hour or more of solo exp.
Downtime varies completely depending on if your in a group, how many healers you have, how difficult the monsters your fighting, or if your solo, by your class and what your fighting.
Downtime:
As far as down time goes, when soloing at low levels there's not really that much. I find that after fighting a few descents before having to rest and gain hp back. When resting it really doesn't take too much time to heal maybe a minute or so and your right back up fighting. When you start grouping it's not that bad. As long as there's some typew of healer in the group your down time is considerable lessened.
Soloing:
You can solo up untill LvL 10 or so, but after that its better to start gouping, and besides it's and MMORPG = lot's of people to interact with. Why would you want to solo a lot? Finding a group isn't that hard and it's a lot faster for gaining exp (as long as you don't bave a bad group).
The wrost thing I've found about the game is the amount of time it takes them to bring up the servers after an update. On Monday the severs went down for a scheduled update. They were supposed to come back up 6:00 EST, then at 5:30 they changed it to 8:00 and then at 7:30 it went to 10:00. I don't mind when they bring a server down for updates, I just wish they gave an appropriate time period from the begining instead of having to change it three times. TTyL TTFN
