This looks awful, Matrix looked better than this and we know what quickly happened to that. Sad because I would really enjoy a decent Cyberpunk mmo. They need to be careful though the word Cyberpunk is a trademarked owned and defended IP in development it is not a word of conversation, just for saying its " Cyberpunk " universe they could be sued.

Thanks, but I will give it a pass for now. The video they posted does not in any way induce me to back the game in its current state.
  • kumobladekumoblade Member UncommonPosts: 87
The video should show more about the game. It was a lot of running through the same area from different angles.

Check the kickstarter page , they have more videos there.
The concept the are aiming for isn't bad but yeh , game needs allot of work to get there.

Issues for me, being a UI DESIGNER for games, I can tell they do not understand UI , because most they do not just copy old designs, which people do get tired of, and dated...I know its early, and they normally do later anyways, but from what I have seen from many indies which I llove to support, many do not hire true UI designers, they just keep the old design, since they do not have a clue how to make something new and refreshing. They would help make there game stand out..

My advice is to design combat, , world, UI stuff like this and shows some new refreshing designs, to get people's attention... Indie have more room to do this then AAA.

As development proceeds, our original placeholder art work that we created will be replaced with newer designs. The current GUI was created as the programmers needed something to use other than the white boxes that came with the engine. It is functional if not amazingly pretty.

Can you give any specific examples from your experience what are their biggest mistakes and maybe how modern UI would solve those issues?

I always feel the first thing an indie studio has to cut down on are the graphics. It's just a matter of resources.
So I don't mind the slightly trashy looks.

Will keep an eye on this one.

I would be very surprised if they don't get the money, people seem happy to throw money at almost anything these days.

I saw a fairly small youtuber do a kickstarter for an infrared camera not long ago, 10k or so.  He got it, people have way too much money to throw around.

We are directly concentrating on game systems and content over graphics at the moment. Which is why the game looks a bit like ass.

No point in having a pretty environment if you cant move or shoot or interact with other players in any way. Once Kickstarter is out of the way, we will be doing shader, lighting and character model work to make it look prettier.

Added to that the engine is about to undergo a full makeover with a whole new up to date renderer and DX11. When i see people complain about graphics in a pre alpha video game that is at least 6 months away from being put into the publics hands, i take those comments with a grain of salt. Yes there is a ton of room for improvement, but there is also a ton of time to get those upgrades done :)

We just passed the £1000 mark. Thank you so much Exiles. It is wonderful to know that people will want to play this game and be a part of it from such an early part of its development.

Hmm, seems a person who is part of this Kickstarter came through this thread and LoL'd all the relevant posts, and agree'd all the posts supporting them. :/

One of the top reasons to avoid this project like the plague.

I lol'd at the first comment about the possibility of being sued because we use the word cyberpunk to describe our game. It is like saying we will be sued for saying our game is also scifi.

I agreed with Dakeru's post about cutting graphics when starting out on development because as i stated in one of my posts "We are directly concentrating on game systems and content over graphics at the moment. Which is why the game looks a bit like ass. "

I awesomed Ramajama's post because he made a good point about Darkcrystal giving critique without pointing out what he thinks is wrong with the GUI.

The title "Cyberpunk" is trademarked as it pertains to games and sporting goods (I looked it up), but the word also describes and entire sub-genre of sci-fi. There are titles with the word Cyberpunk in them that don't seem to be going through litigation. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I would be surprised. I also think that's going to be a very hard trademark to defend for them if they ever decide to pursue that course of action.

Where did you read about cyberpunk being trademarked out of curiosity?

In any case we use the word as you say, to describe the sub genre of our game. Not in the actual title of our game. There are a vast variety of products that describe themselves as cyberpunk. Even more as time goes on.
  • Prometheus2015Prometheus2015 Member UncommonPosts: 66
We have swapped out the intro video with a much higher quality version. Turns out the video codec we used to encode it first time around sucked and wouldnt show the true 60fps frame rate that it should have.

We think the quality is massively improved over what it was originally.

We have created a development roadmap page on Trello. This allows everyone to see what we have already created, what we are working on and what we have still to do in our current phase. Have a gander. Any questions feel free to ask :)

To be fair this game is so feature heavy i would be hesitant to buy it in a box... Dropping money on a kickstarter... Nope.

If you get the game out and it can do half of what you aim to do.... Then i might give it a try.

This have been a good conversation

Looks interesting. Just looking at the videos the lighting needs some work. Other than that I would be just fine playing something like this.

    https://www.bing.com/search?q=cyberpunk+trademark&pc=MOZI&form=MOZLBR
    https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=Cyberpunk+trademark

I just searched Bing and Google to see if what psiic said held any water.

This is what I came up with:
    http://www.markhound.com/trademark/search/NnBP8RitT
    https://trademarks.justia.com/742/00/cyberpunk-74200609.html
    https://trademarks.justia.com/856/81/cyberpunk-85681741.html
    https://trademarks.justia.com/852/74/cyberpunk-85274090.html

I'm not a lawyer and don't work in the legal field. I'm a data analyst and SQL programmer in the medical industry so I'm not sure what any of that really means. From a layman's look it appears as if the trademark has been granted, but some of the language in those makes it seem like it's been questioned.

I just wonder how hard it would be for them to defend that trademark given its wide use.

Would just take 1 big game company fighting this supposed ownership of the word to brush it aside.

Deus Ex is going to get in trouble for describing itself as a cyberpunk game? I always take this kind of thing with a pinch of salt. Cyberpunk is a genre not a name.

We have done minimal groundwork lighting in most cases as we have been concentrating on other areas. It is upcoming on our schedule though for sure. Shaders and light work will make things look a lot more pretty for sure :)

I'd be interested in knowing why the goal is such an odd number and what you expect to achieve with an amount as small as 43k.

You are seeing the number on kickstarter in dollars. The project is actually in GBP so shows an odd number.

There is a section on the campaign that details what we will use the funds for.

Well trademark law says you can't trademark generic terms and cyberpunk is generic as it gets.  So good luck trying to defend the trademark if someone has that intention.  The patent and trademark office is a complete disaster, they have been approving nonsense for decades and the courts are finally waking up to the mess they have created.

    Getting ready for Eurogamer 2016.

While we will not be in a state ready to have a public stall set up demoing the game, we will still be there and will be able to meet other developers and gamers.

Let us know if you are attending this year and we can all meet up and have a little Q&A.

Is... is that the Build engine?

I like stylized graphics. Duskers, WoW, Borderlands, Elsword, Tree of Savior, etc. But they have to be well done, and these... well, aren't.

Best of luck to you, but I don't see you finishing this with $43K from a graphics standpoint alone. Style and technical issues aside, everything just looks very, very bland, boring, and uninspired.

AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!
