As long as it's not Uwe Boll bad, I'll be fine. Movie reviewers remind me of the South Park episode, Smug Alert, where they stand around pretentiously sniffing their own farts.

    I've seen many a 2/5 3/5 movie that I've enjoyed.

I'll wait till I've watched it to judge it. Won't be in the theatre though, the popcorns too damn expensive and they can shove their TV commercials up their ass.

Imagine “Battlefield Earth” without the verve and you get this sludgy, tedious fantasy adventure, a fun-starved dud that’s not even unintentionally hilarious....right off of meta critic...what a poop fest

Maybe if they had named it something catchy... I dunno, Orcs vs Humans perhaps, it would get some decent press.

But with Warcraft in the name, I just gotta hate on it. :p

They should have took the budget and used it to make an updated version of the game.

I usually go by the motto that there is no bad fantasy movie.

I watched TONS of them, all the cheap stuff from Asylum, all these movies with orcs that are just some guys with their faces painted green. Dragonwarrior-sorcerer-princess, peasant boy found a necklace, evil wizard wants it etc. etc.
Cheapest CGI with laughable dragons, poor smoke bomb explosions and terrible combat. Ridiculous wigs under which the real hair shows. I just LOVE this. I wouldn't watch most of them a second time, but all of them i found very entertaining and -since i'm a fantasy nerd- at times even a little immersing. You know what to expect and what you'll be getting.
The people involved in these movies probably have a rather reasonable evaluation of their movie making abilities and their final products. Everything is what it is and nothing pretends to be more than that.

Then comes hollywood producing another mediocre movie...and another...and with all of them comes all this hype. The hypocritical interviews in which everyone pads everyone's back and constantly states what a great movie they have made, how much this experience has brought everyone together and changed their state of mind and all that bs talk. To me that is nauseating, i can't have that. Corporate Hollywood cheering itself on their rubbish.

So, i don't call any movie bad right away, even if it's basicly ...bad. To me a movie is bad when it's obviously mediocre but takes itself totally serious and everyone wants to sell it as the best thing. And you leave the theater wondering where the multimegamillion budget did go. Like The Hobbit 2 and it's previous-gen gaming console graphic CGI, the xth "teenagers with superpowers" movie or the many borderline unwatchable comicbook superhero movies recently. Or the latest Star Wars movie. I prefer that good old Buck Rogers movie every day. I prefer soul over green screen and 5 cuts per second.

I really enjoyed it.  The trailers and not calling it John Cater of Mars is to blame.
    Absolutely agree.
I never figured why it was considered bad. I even went and read the books after seeing the film.

$160 mil budget to make this movie.

Should have just spent it all on CGI and made a pure CGI movie.
I totally agree but my biggest concern is how the movie raped the lore. It is really heartbreaking, i know several parts of lore is not really desirable and some of them has been heavily remedied through later progression but what was done in movie is horrendous....

    'Sorcery & Stupidity' + 'Unwatchable'.

Sounds like a movie made under the heavy hand of Blizzard.

The trailers have been complete garbage. I will not be wasting money on this.

The reviewer at The Wrap gave Dragonball: Evolution a 4/5.  His review of video game movies is completely invalid and can be thrown out.

My issue with this movie is that World of Warcraft (the game) never took itself that seriously. It's always been a joyful, upbeat genre with a self-aware sense of humor.  Just type /silly in game, or start dancing.  How about Theralion, the gay dragon, who uses abilities like Fabulous Flames and Dazzling Destruction?

To go so hardcore serious with this movie is like taking The Lord of the Rings and having the writers for The Big Bang Theory churn out the script. It's antithetical to the source material.

I think that the direction they should have gone is Action/Humor.  For instance something like The Guardians of the Galaxy route. A heartwarming, energetic and humorous tale of humans and Orcs working together for a common goal. All of this over the top, grimdark seriousness is probably what is causing these critics to call it campy and review it poorly.

I see a similar dynamic in SWTOR. When I watch the original SW Trilogy from the 70s and 80s, I get a feel for Lucas' concept of the Force and how it govern's and binds that universe. But then to see where SWTOR has gone with it, it becomes blatantly obvious, these are completely separate concepts. While I enjoyed the game for what it is, time and time again, the statement "Yeah, but this isn't really Star Wars" was ringing through my head. I have no intention of watching this film before it's on Netfix or something, but I have to imagine, the same thing is going to happen to many WoW players. Watching the movie while thinking....."Yeah, OK, but it's not really "Warcraft"." Which also means, it's going to have to earn it's own merits, aside from WoW's which I gather, it doesn't really do well.

They decided to go Warcraft : Orcs and Humans and Warcraft 2 style. They were pretty dark ...

An Overwatch movie would have been a better choice.

With roughly 40 minutes of CG movie at launch and Blizz purchasing a movie studio last year you can probably count on it. Seems like they're shooting for Disney/Marvel levels.

    Wing Commander sucks big time.
I always thought the criticism of Wing Commander was due to the concept of the 'space torpedo' and 'broadsides in space'.  Poor choices for naming, certainly, but not fatal.  I thought the bigger problem with Wing Commander was the source's rather lackluster imitation of Niven's Kzinti from various Known Space stories.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

I feel that the course they ought to have gone is Action/Humor. Case in point something like The Guardians of the Galaxy course. An inspiring, fiery and diverting story of people and Orcs cooperating for a shared objective.

So far i think i will like it.Movies are about entertainment, reviewers often critique ideas like acting ability or scripts. To me as long as it offers some exciting scenes, action and not too cheesy it should be good with me.

I fully expect to see the typical Damsel in distress falling then narrowly escapes death as she is rescued by He-man lmao.I am not expecting some 10/10  movie, i just want a bit of entertainment from a movie,i love movies and watch tons of them.

Just like Superman vs Batman.  I've never seen Superman so silent.  You gotta carry over the spirit of fun these games have.  My first laugh in WoW was seeing the Night Elf doing the Michael Jackson dance on top of a table.  Sucking the humor out of a movie should a crime.

As a filmmaker i gonna say this. At the end of the day, is all about a good scrip, Hollywood is having a hard time trying to make or find one. The WoW trailers were more than enough to know how mediocre this movie will be, just another copy and paste story with a WoW setting. Just sad.
