If i cant play the game at those settings then you cant either. If 2 players start casting spells with those settings your computer will explode. Sure, EQ2 looks good for screenshots but unless you have dual 7800gtx 512mb SLI and 4 gigs of dual channel ram then no, you wont be able to play at anytihng above "balanced" if you want to maintain a decent framerate. Dont put false hopes into peoples heads mate, you need a 5000$ computer to run EQ2 flawlessly, and thats by TODAYS standards.
I hate to break it to ya, but I can play on extreme quality with barely any lag now anywhere but the ruins. I just leave it on high quality because it looks good enough. I turn off all non-essential services which helps a lot and yes, I play on high quality and get a great framerate and the game looks ****ing sensational. Processor: Amd Athlon 2600 1.93 ghz Ram: 2 gig sticks pc2700 Card: Radeon X800 pro No startup programs or non-essential services running is a big key too. And so you know, those screenshots looked a hell of a lot better on my screen in motion.
As others have indicated, the original poster is likely a WoW-fanboi. Almost no other EQII players experience the issues he noted. I would consider believing him except that he said he experienced none of the issues in Trial of the Isle but did after paying for the game. That's crap, because it's exactly the same thing. He's just saying that because if you try Trial of the Isle for free and like the game, he doesn't want you to buy it for fear that it will end up sucking later.

If I remember right I had an Nvidia card back in the day playing DAOC and I also had to set it to application prefrence in the nvidia config to keep the game from stuttering.
Once in game I went in the options and jacked up the settings and the game ran fine, both EQ2 and DAOC.

Originally posted by neya I wanted to give a heads up to all readers who are thinking of trying Everquest 2. Be prepared! - You may have already played trial of the isle and decided that the game was great fun, with good graphics and an overall appeal. (like I did) - You may then decide to go out and purchase EQ 2 and perhaps some of the expansions. (I bought EQ 2) - You may then wait 6+ hours for everything to install and for the game to patch itself fully (like I did) - You may then log in and find that you can barely move because of Nvidia Stuttering Issues which have plagued the games code from launch (like I did) - When you can move and you get in an hours gameplay (10% of that gameplay time will be taking up waiting for each zone to load as you jump from zone instance to zone instance) (like I did) - Then after you have zoned a few times, you can barely move again, because EQ 2 memory management is awful, and each time you zone, your memory usage is increased because of bad coding. This is not just my experience but many many more players are experiencing the same issues. The code for this game is awful, if your used to playing system intensive games and getting high FPS with them, forget it in EQ 2. Seriously, do not let Trial of the Isle confuse you into thinking this game is great, the game would be great if there wasn't bad memory management and Nvidia issues 1 year on. I did warn you!
You need more ram. Trying to run the game with anything under 1 gb is a futile attempt and yes there are resource problems if you aren't running atleast 1gb of ram. At 2gb of ram all the delays due to disk access halt completely and the only latency issues you should have would be due to trying to over do your video settings.
The Nvidia stuttering issue was never fixed however it is a very minimal issue and I beleive you are confusing a lacking computer with that problem. I suffer from the stutter problem still however it does not make gameplay a problem, I simply do not run smoothly.
As for the zoning, see my first point. The zone load times dissapear when you have the proper amount of ram (which is extremely cheap these days and gives more of a perfomance boost to a computer then any other single 1 item).

Let me clear some things up. Your computer will only use a little over 2 gigs of RAM for a video game, so 4 gigs is not going to help very much. A single 7800 GTX (Or the new 7900 GT) will be more than enough to run the game at high settings. 3d benchmark on a single 7800 GTX is about 11,500, when you bring in a second 7800 GTX it goes up to about 1300. Sure 1500 more for a benchmark is alot, but not for an extra $4-500 hundred dollars IMHO. I have a second computer I run EQ2 on with very high performance and it's a P4 2 ghz, 512 RDram, 40 gig hard-drive. And it runs just fine and still looks decent for a game. Also, there are TONS of guides on how to properly set the settings for your computer on the everquest forums, i think i even saw some on these forums.
That's like posting on the nba.com forums saying "I'm 5'7, 300 pounds, with no athletic ability, WHY CAN'T I PLAY THIS GAME OF BASKETBALL????". Or, "I'm 6'9, 240 pounds, with tons of athletic ability, but i have two broken legs, WHY CAN'T I PLAY THIS GAME OF BASKETBALL??" That is exactly what you are saying to us since your computer is the one with problems. Now, since i've baked you your humble pie, take a slice and enjoy.
You did prove my point also, mainly that you are incapable of giving a straight answer. So just because people are experiencing problems since 2004 it sudendly doesnt make their complaints valid?
Plus. i guess all these memmory erros are peoples imagination working overtime also?
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
A few months back I purchased a new graphic development program and received a pop up that for the program to run properly I would need to install a newer set of drivers for my ATI card. Once installed I went about my merry way texture mapping, building framing and just having a geeky-ol time.
A few days later I decided to play some EQ2 on the same computer. After about twenty min. I started to encounter all of these errors that people are complaining about lagout, memory crashes and the like. In frustration I /exit from EQ2 and go off and muck around with a few other things. A few days later I try EQ2 again and the same thing happens. So I start to look around the forums, ask some friends and arrive at the conclusion that the new ATI drivers were thrashing EQ2.
In quite the conundrum of having to decide it I wanted to play EQ2 or use my new very expensive graphics software I arrived at a conclusion. I uninstalled the ATI card and re-installed the ATI card using the drivers that came with it (on the CD). The idea was to try all the different generations of driver until I found one that worked with both programs. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the original drivers did the trick.
To this date I have never again had the memory problems and crashes.
The moral of this story? EQ2 is not a console game and as such the configuration of each end user will be different making it nearly impossible for the application to run perfectly on all systems out of the box. If you as an end user are not willing to fiddle with your computer and apply a little effort to diagnose and remedy the problem then you will get upset and pitch a temper tantrum.
If you are the type to take ownership and not expect everything to be done for you please check out the discussion on this subject on EQ2s official forums. While there is a good amount of crying there are also some sound suggestions and tips.
You did prove my point also, mainly that you are incapable of giving a straight answer. If you don't ask me a question, I can't give you an answer. I thought that would be self evident, but I guess I take too much for granted. So just because people are experiencing problems since 2004 it sudendly doesnt make their complaints valid? Ah but the comment I am disputing is: THOUSANDS of people are complaining about it. You still have not proven that statement. Plus. i guess all these memmory erros are peoples imagination working overtime also? Please show me where I've stated that? Heck show me where I've said there isn't a problem at all? let me quote my self for you: Please show my where thousands of people are complaining about it. It should be all over the forums, yet nary a word is said. and you have proven my quote to be true. Hardly anyone is complaining about it. FAR from the thousands to claim.
http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=tech_support&message.id=151889 Right a whole 1 person complaining about it, well okay I'll give you the second guy too, only 1,998 more people to go to make you right. http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=tech_support&message.id=129453 Okay there are 202 posts here, let's say they're all from different people and complaining about the leak (they're not, but it really doesn't matter). Now you have 204 people complaining. You tell me is 204 more or less that THOUSANDS? OH but wait, they are in 2006? OO And performance guides to optimize memmory usage because of leak, but no... why a guide when there is no problem? http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=tech_support&message.id=151897 Why sugest to use programs that flush your memmory if EQ2´s memmory usage is normal? Again, if you bother to read and understand what you're arguing about, I never said there wasn't a problem, I simply said thousands aren't complaining about it. Here is what I've said again: Please show my where thousands of people are complaining about it. It should be all over the forums, yet nary a word is said.
You're complaining about these problems like everyone who plays the game has them. Unfortunately for you, thousands of players DON'T. If you can't make the logical connection there, you're beyond reproach.
Game is great with no issues (other than any issue that plagues ALL mmorpg), as long as you have a good rig to play it on.
My rig:
Intel D865GBF motherboard (one of the best intel boards they ever made) Intel P4 3.0GHz Processor 3GB DDR PC3200 RAM (I can still add another full GB of RAM) nVidia 6800GT 256MB video card Soundblaster Live 5.1 sound card 5.1 surround sound speakers 19" monitor Adelphia Cable modem
Ran SWG at full all the time and still topped out at 30fps in teh wild and dropping to between 23-30fps in cities depending amount of other players and FX around me.
EQ2 I run with many options on and settings are at 75% or higher with many at max for detail and backgrounds. No problems.
Never buy off the shelf and never order one through Gateway or Dell, always build your own or make friends with someone who can for you.
I have an Nvidia card and I also have 2gb of ram and the game runs like I had always hoped it would. The memory seems to be the key. This is my second nvidia card(always ATI before) and I haven't had problems with either. I play on very high most of the time, but will occasionally bump it up to extreme and run around. Simply amazing.
The key to smooth running EQ2 is lotta memory. I ran with 1 gig and it was ok. It would zone slow sometimes and I'd have to close and restart the game after 2-3 hours... after I upgraded to 2GIG the zoning is really quick and I don't have to logout anymore (till im done).
People bitch about zoning like it's a bad thing. I kinda like the fact that because of that they can instance zones when the population reaches a certain point. Also means that the zone could be instanced across multiple servers. When I played WoW sometimes in the outside world (not instances) if the side of the world you were on had problems it was the entire continent. There were tons of time Kalimdor ran like crap or didnt even have NPCs around. It's also why they limit the number of people per server. Can only have so many people in those 2 continent "zones".
Anyway... more memory and at least a decent cpu and video card. Graphics are amazing!

You're complaining about these problems like everyone who plays the game has them. Unfortunately for you, thousands of players DON'T. If you can't make the logical connection there, you're beyond reproach.
Ive seen nearly the same posts in WoW and GW general discussions
If Your thinking of buying WoW- DONT!
If Your Thinking of buying Gw - Dont!
those are the 2 titles of it if u search youll find them
Flame bait!
Game is great with no issues (other than any issue that plagues ALL mmorpg), as long as you have a good rig to play it on.
My rig:
Intel D865GBF motherboard (one of the best intel boards they ever made)
Intel P4 3.0GHz Processor
3GB DDR PC3200 RAM (I can still add another full GB of RAM)
nVidia 6800GT 256MB video card
Soundblaster Live 5.1 sound card
5.1 surround sound speakers
19" monitor
Adelphia Cable modem
