This idea would be amazing in a MMO.

I feel like in combat PvE or PvP the characters with some kind of presence or identity would require unique character driven traits. Here is where I am going with this, think limit breaker for FF or their pvp Adrenaline skill used once per battle or old school EQ paladin lay of hands. These skills to me made the class unique and also added personality to make that valiant last stand or give up your all at the right time to sway battle.

My idea is this... So you already have a random code that can calculate critical strikes, attack speeds based on weapons etc. so this seems possible and while complicated stick with me.

Say your in combat in a action oriented game and your dodging or landing hits perfectly, your character randomly on a chance rolls +10% damage for adrenaline rush. OR you have soaked an amazing amount of damage in short period of time, random rolls last stand increasing damage absorption or enter a berserk rage. I feel like the only thing missing from gaming all together is a persons ability to exceed his normal ability even if for a moment. I do not think that this should be user controlled either, it should not be completely random but based on how you play your character and whats happening in every different moment that decides the possible outcomes. I feel like this this system I may learn more about myself and my character in the feats achieved... I played around with the ideas of abilities that consume your characters life say you had to reroll for an amazing ability, maybe a rare race. However, then I could see it being abused so I think small-medium size effects with some kind of backlash and large diminishing return, exhaustion once combat has stopped etc.

Who else thinks the diversity of a character should be more than its class or for god sakes its appearance?

Closest system I have seen done in this was the Shadowbane traits selector at character creation you could choose character defining abilities or stat boosts with a set of points in a pool. So even two people of the same class were... different.
