Playing: Champions Online, EQ1, LotRO, Stellaris and CIv 5.
Looking forward to: a 4x game that doesn't disappoint me in the first week. Also, a game that doesn't try to pretend that Kickstarter is the Securities and Exchange Commission. Can we at least get a Kickstarter campaign to sit by the interstate exit to do their panhandling so I can 'accidentally' hit them?
Master of Orion has been pretty solid. After being disappointed by Civ5, Endless Legend, and GalCiv3, MoO actually seemed to provide a good flow of interesting decisions (at least in the early part of the game; later on things became a little too unwieldy, but I've heard they've improved that since I played last.)
GalCiv was most disappointing. I flitted through like 50 turns just exploring and growing and almost nothing eventful happened during that time.
There is a new one called Stellaris that looks pretty good (similar game to MoO and GalCiv). Haven't pulled the trigger yet, but I'm eyeing it. Looks good.

Oh right, I'd forgotten about that one. Sci-Fi from Paradox Interactive (makers of CK2/EU4). I imagine it's probably pretty fun.
And mentioning Paradox reminded me to google Hearts of Iron 4, which apparently comes out in 3 days. I suppose if I'm looking forward to any upcoming game it's that. After playing the hell out of CK2 I kept trying to switch back to HOI 2 and 3, but oldschool Paradox UIs were pretty awful compared to their newer games, so I decided to wait on my WW2 grand strategy til this newest one came out.

It feels like there is a new game for every individual, which only makes me more certain that if anyone is going to draw the scattered market out there it will be through innovation, quality, security and plenty of content to keep players interested playing for years, all accessible for $5-10 monthly sub fee and nothing more like cash shops.
This game would of course start with $25-35 monthly sub, that would lower as time goes by and more players are drawn to it.
If it does pretty good job at all the things I mentioned, it not only will survive, but it will take over not just the MMO market but the gaming market in general. Well, whatever came in the last almost 5½ years took $0.00 from me and many came out either F2P, B2P or sub as well with most also offering cash shop.
Luckily there are still more forgiving, less demanding and simply bored players to throw $ at whatever can get them by until the next new shiny arrives.

"Draw the scattered market"? That's a good one. What makes you think the market is scattered? News flash: different games appeal to different people. The fact that so many options are available and people are finding a good variety of titles worth playing is a sign of a robust market, not a scattered one.
Wanting everyone to play the same title even if it's not one they enjoy is borderline psychopathic thinking, to me.

Playing Overwatch, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 2 and 3.
Looking forward to I Am Setsuna, Deus Ex, FFXV, Mafia 3 and a few others.
MMO wise, all I care about right now is Legion and when the prepatch hits. I'm jonesing for some WoW again. The rest of the genre is either dead to me or is taking far too long to launch any quality titles that actually grab me.
I love MoO, but really, it's over 20 now. Stellaris fails for me because it does even include all the systems that MoO did (spying, espionage and sabotage). Can't we expect games to incorporate what the prior generations plus adding new things? That sounds like growth to me. Nobody is doing that -- 4x (RT or TB), MMORPG, even cRPGs.
Over 20 what? Years old? I'm talking about the new Master of Orion. Or do you mean it uses the same mechanics from 20 years ago and you expected more?
All game systems require dev and balance work to do right, so it actually is unreasonable to expect games to have all the old systems plus new ones. Some growth does happen because better tools are being introduced gradually over time, but there's also the matter of how many systems a game tries to teach a player at once (it's really easy to be completely incomprehensible to the average player, at which point all the systems you've designed basically get thrown into the trash anyway.)
In MMORPGs, that would perfectly describe a 'clone' game. Yes, there's some inherent growth behind the scenes with new technology and the like, but improved graphics shader optimization only appeals to my CPU, not me. I generally associate 'evolution' and 'progress' with 'addition' rather than 'subtraction'. I don't want my games to be clones and stagnant, I want them to build "on the shoulders of giants".
And, yes, the 1994 version of MoO had functional systems that Stellaris didn't try to implement.

Currently The Witcher 3, I will probably play Riders Of Icarus. Otherwise, some of you have mentioned many games that you play. Some even The Witcher 3, from which I know that it is a very big game, can take ''forever'' to explore everything,... especially with expansion packs. How are you able to play so many games at the same time. Are you getting quickly bored?
