the best overall cure is holding your breath, but most people don't understand that to cure hiccups with that method requires you to close your nose with your fingers, take a deep, deep breath and hold your breath for a REALLY long time... anyway if that doesn't work for you try to lie down, completely relax your body and don't fight the hiccups.. eventually they'll become more infrequent and stop completely, relaxation works wonders for the body.

I actually have a way that 100% gets rid of hiccups, but it only works on you once. I'd have to be there in person to do it. It involves a type of hypnosis. Not like a "follow the watch and stare into my eyes" kind of thing, but it's like a relaxing, sub-conscience thing that, after the first time I do it to you, you'll realize what I did and you'll be too conscience of it for it ever to work again.

I only get hiccups after eating rice or Bready things too fast. I advise you eat slower and chew each bite more carefully.

To get rid of them try holding your breath then drink water while holding it, return to holding it then breathe. But like someone said below, the absolute best way is just to relax and take slow deep breaths even if you hiccup while doing this just keep breathing deep and slow.

1 - Eat slower and less spicy/acid stuff

2 - Take a BIG dessert spoonful of powdered sugar and swallow it rapidly, the influx of energy will calm the muscles responsible for the hiccups

Not 100% garanteed but it works well if you do it right.

the method i'm going to describe works 100%, i've tried it many times and it always works.

get a glass of water, hold your breath, completely, then drink the glass fully without stopping to catch a break to breath.

the glass should be as big as an adult palm, in hight, you might as well try half a bottled water it works too, as i said, i've tried it many times and it always works, you might as well give it a shot if the previous posters methods didn't work.

This is only because youre holding your breath, it has nothing to do with drinking water.

Anyways, I second holding your breath. You just have to consume as much air as your lungs can hold, and just keep holding it for as long as you can.

A quick hammer to the nutsack will do the trick.  Your brain will override the hiccups as any movement with breathing and inner movement will cease automatically.

    Bitters & Lime.  100% Cure.

Walk into a bar/tavern, ask for a shot of Bitters (It's a non-alcoholic mixer). Soak a lime wedge in the Bitters for a minute.   Then pop that lime into your mouth, and suck on it for 5 seconds.    Hiccups are now gone.   I have never seen this fail.

I always get the hiccups after and sometimes during eating. Last time I went to the doctor I asked him why. He said it's because food gets wedged in your esophagus sometimes. I noticed that if I eat bread that I always get them. So he recommended drinking more fluids when I eat. Like take 3 bites, drink, etc. It worked for me. I can usually tell when I need a drink now too, because I feel this weird pressure in my throat.

I also get them when I drink beer. I think it's the carbonation but I'm not sure. Now those, I haven't figured out how to get rid of yet. Other than don't drink beer. Which is cool with me, I don't really like it anyways. I'm a rum girl myself. But those beer hiccups are the worse. They hurt.
