I Miss Subscription MMO

nahilunahilu Member UncommonPosts: 15
I am REALLY dissapointed with MMO nowadays.

I am an old school MMO player from Everquest , UO , Dark age of Camelot , Star Wars Galaxy , Asheron Call , Lineage , Aion ( when it was a subcription)

I recently played Black Desert Online and others new MMO on the market.

IT IS BY FAR THE MOST BAD GAMING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE.

Design in video used to be Danger = Reward More danger more reward.

Now Design in MMO is how do we gonna make the player PAY on the shop.

We call our game free to play so we can TRAP YOU.

IT IS JUST NOT FUN AND THE ESSENCE OF PLAYING A GAME FOR FUN IS NOT THERE.

I do understand MMO need money , I do understand it , BUT WHEN IT BREAK THE FUN IN A GAME , THERE NO POINT.

For instance  in Black Desert Online

World Boss are DESIGN to kill people 1 shot.

Top Tier Loot goes to top 20 DPS

If you Resurect Closest Node , you are not gonna make it to top tier loot.

Those who RIP the shop with instant REZ == They win Top Tier Loots

We call this fun design nowadays ?

If you watch a World Boss with 300 Players , you can see around 100 players using those PEARLS no joke.

We call this CONVINIENT ?

HECK NO !

EVERTYTHING NOT FUN IN A VIDEO GAME SHOULD NOT BE PART OF THE GAME IT IS WHY GAMES ARE ''FUN''

MMO Players NEED TO WAKE UP !!!!

Stop Supporting CASH SHOP

The more people who support THIS MESS

THE MORE CRAPPY MMO WE WILL HAVE.

I wanted to share . BUT I'm over With MMO Free To Play

When i see Free To Play I see Free to Get Anus Fuck

I do too. I should have access to the entire game if I pay a monthly sub.
  • nahilunahilu Member UncommonPosts: 15
If you are a HARDCORE gamer and you want to COMPETE with the best players since i spent around 40 to 60 hours a week in a MMO.

    IT IS JUST A FACT

Free to play games cost more money then montly sub games if you want to compete high end game.

I don't know.  I just don't see the differences in a major way.  It seems like convenience is your major gripe, but there's nothing wrong with it, as long as it's balanced.

"Design in video used to be Danger = Reward More danger more reward."
No, not really.  They were just more grindy to waste time. There was nothing special about dying and then having to run back 30+ minutes because of lag, griefers, or bugs.

Many B2P & F2P games also offer the same amount of content than subscription games.  Some even offer more.

Take WoW for example.  Only one major content update to their latest expansion.
FFXIV, Rift, GW2, ESO, AA, Swtor, etc..  all have had plenty of updates, regardless of their model.

See here's the thing, most of us DON'T. most players aren't interested in being the top 1% anyway. they don't want to put in the time, its not worth it. Most people play games to have fun, and F2P/B2P lets you avoid paying for the content you weren't going to access anyway,  and takes away the feeling that you're renting your progress.

I play MMOs for the Forum PVP

I miss it too but not because I want to be the top player or one of the top. Not interested in that goal I just prefer to pay monthly and get costumes and other stuff . I want to be able to pay monthly and I prefer games that give that choice while allowing f2p like SWTOR.

I believe that game companies are of the opinion that hardcore people are more likely to spend so I guess you are.

Archeage is one game only.  It's not the standard of the F2P model.

This 100%.  I don't understand the burning need many have to be the top 1% in an MMO.  BDO is a fantastic game unless you are trying to be a hardcore top tier PvPer.  The misery these people put themselves through is mind-boggling.

    I really don't miss renting my MMO's.

Well Thanks I can see CLEALY that MMO are over for me. I will keep Playing Project 1999 EQ and old school HARDCORE games where I have some REAL fun.

Thank You Casuals Players once again to kill the fun for hardcore gamers, really thank you.

    You guys ruined MMO

I am level 57 in BDO I lost 3 times my liverto +15 to +14 because of the outlaw system.

World PvP is a total mess in the game but that is another story,

The game in GENERAL is good really good , really creative i have a lot of good things to say.

    BUT

Skill Point Reset == 10$ no other way

How can you learn a class and try out his skill ? you cant

    Weight == $$$$

You really want to farm 30min and go town ???

Want carry more pots ? PAY

You want top tier loot ? Pay the Pearl

You want to Outlaw pvp ? Guile Suit PAY

You want to have S rank on your farming ? PAY the glasses

You want make tons of silver with Energy pot ? Pay for more characther slots

You want to Reroll ? Pay Again all this

BDO in my guild MOST player have 300 to 1000$ in 3 month !!!!!! from 100 players

    That is MMO ?

Go play that then. In the meantime, the rest of us will keep having fun, and keep pumping money into new games we enjoy, and the market will keep catering to us.

You sound bitter here's a sweet.

To be honest in the previous games I have played I have never actually been fond of hardcore players because they spoil the game for other players by investing insane amount of time and increasing the cost of resources and generally ruining  the game for others except the top tier. I don't feel sorry at all that things have turned out this way as I feel if you use more resources in the game you should pay more . So I guess game companies are profiting off the need of players who want to be top.

f2p / b2p / subscription - or some combination of the three are simply business models.

There are - for example - sub based games with boss mobs that can one shot people because they are designed for groups. So sweeping generalisations don't entirely work.

However - using broad brush strokes:

Subscription based games tend to have a lot of grind; the aim is to slow you down. Lots of walking between quests. Lots of A telling you to go to B who then tells you to go back to A. Lots of gear grind - legendary items in DAoC, more recently LotR and soon WoW. Lots of waiting between spawns, Daily quests to get rep and so forth. I do not miss the grind at all.

b2p game are interested in "wow". They want to thrill you once; give you an experience so that you will look kindly on the publishers next offering and buy that. They are not about "longevity" however. Repetitive daily quests and so forth are not the order of the day. So the complaint leveled against them is "not enough content" even though everyone is enjoying the content released a lot.

And so to f2p. First thing to say: conversions of failed sub games don't count; they were sub based games that failed.  Games designed as f2p that do it well will "entice" "many people" to pay "a little" - check out LoL. Yes there are the few but many pay a little. Bad designs don't target the many and so they rely very, vry heavily in the few. Which makes things worse. You are talking about "the few".

And my own preference is for b2p which, imo, strikes a balance.

Fun is subjective. I have never understood my girlfriends I should say my granny friends who buy new expensive branded handbags and new phones so frequently but they seem to enjoy spending their money. So if I have fun for 6 months in a game I'm happy.

To see how MMO are nowaday it is just sad for me.

If its all you ever know , I can understand

See in 1999 , we would never have this messy discution.

Game was just fun. You didnt feel compromise because you dont spend real life money.
  • cheyanecheyane Member LegendaryPosts: 9,404
It's unfortunate that the present generation of "I want this now and I want it free" has created a sub genre where those who want it now pay and those that want it free pout.

Im with ya bud, used to be you buy a game pay a sub and get everything in it through determination and gameplay. You played the game, had fun, and pick up loot along the way. The more you played the more badass you were ... and you earned it for the most part. Now its all about buying shit on the cash shop and looking cool... joy.

Needless to say I hardly play MMOs anymore. ESO is the only one installed in my computer and even so, I have been level 8 for months. Every now and then I get the itch and start playing. I log in and after a few unbelievably easy quests, cash shop ads, and players riding around in a badass lightning enveloped panther you can online get from the cash shop ... I lose all motivation. Not that I cant afford it, there is just no point. Gone are the days of seeing something you like and collecting, learning, and playing the game to get it. Just buy your points at the "store" and double click it in your inventory.

Its just the way gamers have rewarded the industry. You cant really unlock levels in action or adventure games anymore. Few games are left which reward the player with cool in-game items for exploring or beating some tough boss. Nope, its all "achievements" now... a freakin graphic that pops up in some profile most people never look at! FFS, even fighting games have done away with unlockable characters... just buy buy buy.
