The latest Shroud of the Avatar newsletter has been released with the interesting news that the tie-in novel, The Sword of Midras, is now available for pre-order in hardcover print, Kindle, Nook and Audiobook formats. The book will be available on June 21st.

But adding 4 new chapters and trying to sell it again instead of giving it free to those who already got Blade of the Avatar is a dick move.
Now if backers get a free upgrade then ignore the above...

Yeah Tracy Hickman! Go write some sweet graphics instead of writing books!
he might have had success with UO, but i think he's just using his "legendary" name to bs with people now.
i think he should just retire known as UO creator afterall.
So What Now?
I'd also argue books and things like that are fairly important for a game of this nature, it's a good way to introduce the world as well as get folks to care about it, which breeds more longevity for those who actually enjoy/understand the setting.
This is what made SWG and games of it's Ilk so easy to get into, even though the game itself didn't give you much in the way of story. Knowing background elements as well as their existence...made it easy to immerse oneself into the setting as well as character(s).
This is also a reason I can never get into most of the "sandboxes" that are available today, I care nothing of their worlds, or what's going on in their hastily laid out lore...

So Dreamo's joke about a jerk not fixing his game to rather do minor sidestuff is actually accurate on this one.
And you don't have to understand my mentality. Just like I don't understand how someone would want to read a book about a mediocre game.
How about they try to improve the game instead?
Dick move.

Lol.
I think Richard Garriot needs extra money for his journey to Mars.
I heard he booked it already with SpaceX.
lol
Seriously though, a fanbase with more money than sense coupled with an aging game developer trying to cash in on past fame seems to be a recipe for $$$.

What a complete cluster fuck. I've seen other campaigns where a book was offered and backers still received a copy despite having a publishing book deal as well.
They actually gave the book (digital copy) to almost all backers but amazingly pulled that reward once they had a book deal with a publisher. But what's more hilarious is how their blind fanboys are justifying the reason given. These guys will bend over for any reason and have deluded themselves into thinking anything the devs do is best for them.

Anyway what I didn't understand about the mentality is to think only a blockbuster franchise should attempt to expand their Lore, or have some sort of out of game presence. SWG was a rather "mediocre" game all things considered, yet the expansiveness of the lore outside of the game, did a lot for one's immersion. Lore means a lot to RP, awesome game or not, they shouldn't skimp on it.
It's the whole reason Warcraft is made into books as well as movies, D&D, so on and so forth. The greater depth to the underlying foundation, the more hardcore fans tend to get. A fan is a fan, this is what they want, big property or not. That goes for anything, especially if it's trying to be an RPG.
Hence my questioning of such a statement.
Which really has naught to do with SOTA, or Lord British..Your statement seemed rather all encompassing. As to say only Warcrafts of the world should be expanding their lore (as if it's all that great in itself), not small time indie games...
